Let’s Eat 3 offers lead role to Baek Jin-hee

Baek Jin-hee (Jugglers) may become the third heroine to fall in love with Yoon Doo-joon (Radio Romance) in tvN’s Let’s Eat franchise, and has announced that she is considering taking on the foodie drama featuring single adults bonding over glorious mountains of shared food.

Yoon Doo-joon isn’t a lock for the third season, however, according to his management, who stated that his participation is not yet decided. We’ve heard previously that he was offered the chance to return as Dae-young, the glib foodie blogger who fell in love with two different ladies (Lee Soo-kyung and Seo Hyun-jin) in the first two seasons. As much as I don’t love the idea of the girlfriend-go-round (not when we get so attached to each one!), I do vastly prefer that scenario to not having Yoon Doo-joon back; I’m not sure we can still call it Let’s Eat 3 if we lose both the hero and the heroine from previous seasons.

There’s something about Baek Jin-hee that feels very much in line with the feel of the show and its two prior heroines, so I think she’d be a solid choice for the franchise. She’s a little peppy, a little neurotic, a little sassy—the kind of heroine who could hold her own with the hero not just in the bickering realm, but also the binge-eating one.

Let’s Eat 3 is looking at a premiere sometime in the latter half of this year.

Aww she does match the energy of the series! And if Doojoon isn't coming back, they should offer the lead role to Food Psycho Junho :D

I've seen Junho on the reality show 'Let's Eat Dinner Together' and his eating 'manners' were the same in reality as in Chief Kim.
He would make an excellent candidate for the role LOL :-) Or would eating daintily be more preferable for a food critic?

I would love to have Doo-joon back but only if Seo Hyun-jin is back as well and they both live as a couple next door to Baek Jin-hee! Any other situation my heart would not be able to deal with.

I really like the underlying premise of the show: a group of lonely strangers become something like a family through eating together. So as long as Doo-joon doesn't get a third new girlfriend, I'll be watching.

I know. So what I think they should do....is bring back everybody from Let's Eat 2 *apart from* Doo-joon and Seo Hyun-jin!

I would especially like to see Hwang Seung-on back. She was fun as the bratty girl that all the guys fawned over and of course she was amazing as Ri-el in INAR. She can try to make a normal human being out of Kwon Yool's character.

So Doo-joon and Hyun-jin have moved out of the apartment block, to live together somewhere else, and 2 new people can move in. Then they can do a couple of cameos where everybody comes round for dinner at theirs.

Wouldn't that be perfect ;-)

I love Baek Jin-hee to pieces but hope her agency finds her meatier role - this girl could do much more rather than just a romcom heroine. How much I wish to see her in a sageuk or crime thriller after Jugglers. But on the positive side, Let's Eat is a well-known series, so it might helping to boost her popularity more. I could do with or without Do-joon for Let's Eat 3, because there are many other rising actors out there who can replace his place. A reunion with Choi Tae-joon also would do. (where is this guy, by the way?)

That would be great kiara. I would love to see Jang-hyuk to act more with actresses similar in his age group but I'm also OK when he is paired with young actresses. He and Park Se-young are doing great in Money Flower despite of big age gap.

There just don't seem to be a lot of good roles for women these days, period :( I would love to see Jang Hyuk in a sageuk again, with or without Baek Jin-hee haha.

(btw, did you see that Oh Man-seok signed on to Pretty Noona Who Buys Me Food? He's going to play Son Ye-jin's dad lololol, but whatever. So excited for March!!)

Hmmm, I would actually beg to differ re: good roles for women lately. I did not watch Jugglers so I cannot comment on it but I’ve been pleased with the variety of well-written female characters in the dramas I’ve been watching lately, whether they be leads or supporting characters. There is always room for improvement but in general I’m seeing more and more dramas with awesome ladies and I’m very hopeful that this will continue throughout 2018!

I'm glad you've had a positive experience with women in dramaland so far this year! I certainly agree that dramaland's treatment of women has gotten less problematic in recent times (which is a very good thing, I agree on that point as well), but I don't think that means actresses are being given more interesting or challenging material. Just going on things that have aired in the past 5-6 years, most women-centric shows are still designed to cater to what they think female audiences want, rather than to explore female experience, which means there's more emphasis on making female characters relatable and noncontroversial, than on making them interesting, or using them as a vehicle for social critique (beyond obvious, zero-risk, surface level stuff like ~sexism sucks or ~girl power). Most kdrama "feminism" involves flipping around the well-established grammar of certain genres (the girl piggybacks the guy! The girl kisses first! The girl shields the guy! etc), rather than breaking the mold re: gender expectations or challenging Korean heteronormativity in any serious or meaningful way. And then there's the fact that no real sageuk has been produced in at least 4 years, which basically means there haven't been any high drama roles for either gender in as much time.

4

Agree with @Juniper. I would like to see the roles of woman is as interesting as Jung Ha Yeon's. I love every woman potrayal in Queen In Soo! I'm also applaud writer Lee Kyung Hee for finally making effort creating her 2nd femLe lead interesting in Innocent Man.
The three woman in Mother seems also interesting.

Oh Man-seok <3333333333333!
Is PD Ahn trying to kill us or something?
The news of Ahn returning alone kills me a few times. I still can't believe he is back.

Ye-jin's dad? That made me laugh but come to think of it, Man-seok can play any role even the opposite gender lol. Before Jo Seung-woo and Jo Jung‑suk came along there was Oh Man-seok.

I think PD Ahn has a soft spot for stage actors which makes me happy because they transition better to tv than idols.

You need to check out "The White Tower." MBC brought it back.
There is commentaries by Kim Myung-min and PD Ahn before the episodes start. I'm hoping I'd get to see more from them.

Jang Hyuk is love! I wish he was the lead for "Ansi."

Yeah, I guess he had Ye-jin when he was like 6 or 7 years old haha. Ridiculousness aside, I'm kind of excited for Oh Man-seok to start transitioning to ahjussi roles. Imagine when he gets to play the parts Kim Kap-soo has excelled in all these years--nice dads that make you cry, evil dads that make you rage, corrupt authority figures, kings, etc.

I will definitely check it out! I'm glad they both cherish that project enough to go back and comment on it.

Jung Ha-yeon's drama is airing in March, too. We just have to hang in there until then!

2

Another fan of Oh Man Seok of The Vineyard Man? Our tastes seem similar :-)

2

@juniper
I was hoping that Man-seok would reunite with Jung Ha-yeon again but MBC is pretty screwed up right now so I don't know who is doing all the casting. It doesn't feel right but we'll see.
@Serendipity
I remember you from Thundie's Prattle. Thanks for your reviews on " Flames of Ambition" "The Duo" etc.
At one point I thought I was the only one watching Kam Woo-sung in "King Geunchogo" until you mentioned it in one of your reviews.

I think Oh Man-seok had more I-fans back then.
I hope he'll get to do a full drama soon. He's being doing cameo appearances and nothing more.

Yup, at least that's what it says on Dramawiki! It looks like a lot of Ahn Pan-seok regulars are coming back, too :)

3

I just checked and it's a different Oh Man-seok 😭 😭 😭 😭 😭
He is 50 something so I guess that makes more sense that he is playing her father.
We almost accused PD Ahn of failing at math lol.

It'll take me a while to get over it so join me at that corner if you want to cry.

3

*joining you kiara *

Tbh, It also makes no sense for him to play as her father though 😂 Maybe we can save those two for another drama or movie. But seriously Oh Man-seok should be back to any drama this year! Even Kam Woo-sung also make a comeback, though.

5

Oh no, I'm so sorry you guys!

2

No need to be sorry. So many people with similar names in K ent. I'm easily confuse.

3

On the one hand, rats! because OMS won't be back yet. On the the other hand, isn't he a little young for that kind of role?! ;-)

I loved him in VINEYARD MAN and HYENA, among others. I've got to check out his sageuks.

1

I love Yoon Do-joon and seriously cannot imagine anyone else playing his weirdass character. I've only watched Baek Jin-hee in Juggler and I really liked her character and acting in that. So I'm very excited for this pairing. Having said that, this boy needs to stop playing around with my heart! I cannot take you seriously if you keep moving around and falling in love. At this point, I'm ready to believe that he only loves the one thing:food. Food is his only mistress and all other women in his life are fleeting.

Nothing wrong with Baek Jin-hee, but I would have a problem with her in a Let's Eat because my mental image still has her in survival mode scrounging for food in Missing 9, not with a plate of yummies in front of her. And I'm not sure I'll ever be able to see her anywhere without thinking of that goofy ending.

Yoon Doon Joon is the hallmark for the Let’s Eat franchise (something akin to Michael J. Fox and the Back to the Future series). I’m not sure you could call the drama Let’s Eat without him. If they change the main actor, then they should change the drama name like they did to Drinking Solo. Wasn’t it supposed to be Let’s Drink originally?

And Baek Jin Hee is a shoo in for the drama. She’s a very capable and adaptive actress. I look forward to seeing her in this quirky role 😉.

I am still very much attached to the Lee Soo Kyung and Gu Dae Young couple (I still watch bits of season 1 when I just want to relax) so I haven't gotten to the second series, but I agree that Yoon Doo Joon is the hallmark of the franchise -even if it's weird that he's going to find yet another foodie girlfriend.

Thinking back to Baek Jin Hee's role in the 3rd high kick, I think she's a really good match for the let's eat series.

I like this thought. Let's Eat is really all about camaraderie that eating together brings. It doesn't have to be romantic love. And this way my heart won't be broken again. Seo Hyun-jin can be on sabbatical or something for 3 months and he is bored while she is away, so strikes up a friendship with his new neighbor. Whatever happens, I hope it is just as enjoyable and fun as the previous 2!!!

Baek Jin-Hee, works for me but another GF for Daeyoung?

the 1st offer since last year to Doojoon seems to stick until now, most likely had scheduling issues as DJ himself mentioned in 1 fan sign event last year when news of LE3 casting surfaced that he can't do LE3.but TVN might be keen on keeping Dae-young.

well,no groups plan this 1st half of 2018 except 1 concert in Taipei in March and it was announced in their year end concerts that 1st half of 2018 will be for solo activities.so...

and if we still can't have Doojoon, can we have JunHo aka Food Pyscho Yul instead? *readies a petition for tvn*
