Park Bo-gum faces reality in new teaser for Record of Youth

Family melo Record of Youth (a.k.a. Youth Records) has just released a second teaser, giving us more insight on protagonist Park Bo-gum (Boyfriend) and his struggle to pursue his dreams of becoming an actor.

Featuring Park Bo-gum, Park So-dam (Parasite) and Byun Woo-seok (Flower Crew: Joseon Marriage Agency), this drama is centered on youths who, even after hitting up against the walls of reality, don’t despair. Regardless of setbacks, they continue to work toward realizing their dreams and relationships.

Everyone moves busily backstage as Park Bo-gum prepares to walk down the runway as a model. The lights turn on, and Park Bo-gum’s narration begins to sound, “For my friend, dreams are what protects him…” We skip to the next scene where he’s acting as a mobster, but the director yells at him for screwing up. Park Bo-gum continues, “…But to me, dreams are homework that cost a lot of money.”

Other than the runway and the movie set, Park Bo-gum’s lifestyle is just like any other ordinary youth’s. Because his dream to be an actor isn’t panning out well, he does other part-time work to supplement his income. What makes him worry is that the people around him keep telling him he’s giving up his entire youth to an impossible dream. He contemplates to himself, “I don’t have much time left.” But we do end on a hopeful note, with him and his two friends running excitedly through the streets.

tvN Monday-Tuesday drama Record of Youth, directed by Ahn Kil-ho (Watcher) and written by Ha Myung-hee (Temperature of Love), will begin airing on September 7.

Everything was a green light for "must watch" --- until I saw the writer is also the person who gave me one of the few shows I ever dropped halfway - Temperature of Love. Also a show with veteran actors, started strong, then went sideways in the middle of its run... hopefully this will be better!

I still have a grudge because of TOL. That show was really promising but became so frustratingly incomprehensible midway.

I honestly WANT to be excited for this show, bc of the cast, but this story sounds boringly mundane if not cliche.
I'm hoping I'm wrong.

Same here, the writer is the only thing scaring me off, I dropped TOL too because I literally couldn’t find a single reason to continue watching it, and the cast was amazing in that too. This is PSD’s first drama in soo long so I’m really hoping it’s good or atleast watchable

Exactly! I saw the writer and I’m like, possible pass. I liked the actors in TOL better and still couldn’t finish it.

So interesting...although I dropped PBG last drama after watching 2 or 3 episode (maybe 😅😅😅). So weird that I like the directing style but couldn't invest furthermore in the storyline 😓

Hmm.. this is very reminiscent of Itaewon Class.
Both the topic, atmosphere and this teaser.

I wonder why Jang Ki-yong rejected this drama (and went to the drama that should not be mentioned). It is pitch perfect for him. Well, I guess it is too similar to his own life, might not require acting. Lol

I already said something similar in the first article for this drama. The topic was discussed back then. In case you want to know the answer here's the link - https://www.dramabeans.com/2020/07/park-bo-gum-park-so-dam-in-first-youth-records-teaser/#comment-3687031

Actually I read that one, but they are all speculation. Still it makes me wonder, maybe not just on the side of JKY or his agency, it can be from the drama production side, playing the part.
PBG is too pretty to be a catwalk model, his face will shift the attention from the fashion. Ha, ha, ha.
