Name That Drama: Serial killers, cops, and magic

- Serial killings and sadness
It was an old drama, I watched parts of it about 10 years ago. It was a serial murder drama and the character that I liked was the villain. He masterminded a series of murders (without killing anyone himself) because he wanted to avenge the murder of his brother and mom by the main lead. The main lead hadn’t meant to kill them, I think it was manslaughter. The villain forged his identity so no one would know his background, but eventually people around him figured it out and covered for him.
There is one particular scene that I remember, it was in a church at night. His lady love finally confronted him and asked him to stop, but he couldn’t because it was too late. He left her and cried outside (I remember I cried buckets during this scene T_T). I think he actually wanted to stop once but his partner in crime stabbed him to prevent it. I remember that I detested his partner in crime so much because–plot twist–the partner was actually the reason the villain’s brother died, I think. Then I chickened out because there was no way it would end on a light note.
- Death of an environmental activist
Help! I’m looking for the name of a gritty crime drama about a cop whose wife was an environmental activist (or something similar). There was a shady water company at the heart of the drama and the cop’s wife got killed. And in the end the cop sacrificed his morals and killed the suspect. Or something like that. There was also a second dude who was linked to the cop in some way.
- Beach endings deja vu
I
This question was brought up by a recent episode in My Unfamiliar Family. Which drama was it where the mom tried to bring her daughter to the beach to take both of their lives? - An old woman’s magic
All I remember is the main couple go to a cabin in the woods and someone (an old lady) makes them food. Something happens later and they realize the old lady did some magic on them. Thought it was Secret Garden but couldn’t find that scene. Help!
Thanks for playing, everyone — till next time!

I agree, unless it's the step-mom and then it's CLOY. Mother is a superb drama.

#1 It reminds me Devil Times with Ju Ji Hoon, I think there was a church scene with the 3 of them. It aired in 2007 so I'm not sure about the story anymore...
#3 In CLOY there was a scene with the FL and the mother at the beach.

That was my first guess as well. I'm not sure if the wife was an environmental activist, though.

#3 CRASH LANDING ON YOU. The scene was shown twice, so that at one point it seemed like the mom meant them to die together, and another time we see that she left the girl on the beach. (I don't remember which was shown first).
#4 SECRET GARDEN. As well as a meal, they are given two bottles of a drink which has some rather odd side-effects. ;)

But in Dear My Friends, they aren't on the beach but in the fields behind their house. I watched Dear My Friends recently - as I was also watching My Unfamiliar Family - and was struck by the similarities between the scenes.

I think #2 is Missing Noir M. The wife's death happened close to the finale eps, I think, and the second dude is the detective's partner who has some link to the perpetrator, iirc.

#1 is definitley Devil aka Mawang with Jo Ji Hoon, Uhm Tae Woong and Shin Min Ah as the leads. The older bro got killed in a shuffle about a knife (I always saw it as an accident myself) and then mom was some time later hit by a car because she was too distraught and wasn't paying attention. Yup, drama ended in tears.

#1: One of my favorite all time dramas which of course got probably the lowest rating ever given a k-drama because people didn't understand it was Faustian with a tragic ending. Not a romance or love story at all. In fact, 3 or 4 of us had a very lengthy discussion and analysis of the drama that should be hidden here somewhere.
THE DEVIL, aka THE LUCIFER, aka MAWANG. And yes, it's Ju ji hoon and Shin min-ah.

I remember that I liked this drama and the references to the Rodin's Gates of Hell but I don't remember the story at all.

Well, let me try to be brief: when Ju ji hoon was a boy his older brother was killed by Uhm Tae Woong who was a thug, though a rich thug. His dad, being rich, got him off. JJh's mom dies too, indirectly because of her son's murder. JJH is homeless, starving but saved by a nice guy. He vows to become a lawyer, get revenge on not just the thug and dad, but all who covered up the truth. How? He places temptation before the guilty parties and watches to see if they do the right thing or the evil thing. He always hopes they'll choose good but is always disappointed they choose evil. The cop, former thug, is supposedly trying to redeem his guilt, but actually he's still a thug and a jerk, doing "illegal" things to catch criminals, but it's okay, because he's the "good guy". The characterizations are so well done. Shin Min-ah's part is not a romantic interest, but trying to bring JJH back into the light and give up his revenge. But it's too late for him.

It was on the lines of greek tragedies! The inevitably of our fates as a direct results of our circumstances and our actions! I LOVED it too.

So glad to find another fan of Mawang! So frustrating when no one "gets" what a drama is about since they're only expecting a romantic happy ending. I bought the CD of the OST music and her song was about bringing into the light, aach, I don't know where I put the Eng translation, but I loved the music too.

Did I mention I watched it recently? A couple of months ago? I have not seen a single Korean TV show before 2017. :-D
So my way around the shows is a discovery so far. And this was one of my most favourite ones. It has a Dante's inferno references. (It reminded me of my favourite poem by Robert Frost, Fire and Ice)

Some say the world will end in fire, some in ice...
My favorite is: Whose woods these are I think I know. Our choir sang to this poem.
You have good tastes!

I think #2 could be Wanted, the culprit had a similar reason for kidnapping the FL's son.

#3 could be soul mechanic, the heroine's mother tries to commit suicide along with her in the beach but later gives up and drops off the heroine in an orphanage.
