New teaser for The Spy Who Loved Me with Yoo Inna, Eric, and Im Joo-hwan

A new poster and video teaser has been released for MBC’s upcoming rom-com The Spy Who Loved Me, featuring lead actors Yoo Inna (Reach of Sincerity), Eric (Unique! Chef Moon), and Im Joo-hwan (The Game: Towards Zero). The story is about a woman who suddenly finds herself in a turmoil. Her best friend mysteriously disappears and she finds herself in the middle of a spy war when she discovers that her ex-husband as well as her current husband are somehow involved and are both hiding secret identities.

The central character is played by Yoo Inna. A wedding dress designer named Kang Ah-reum, she simply wanted to live the dream of having a perfect wedding, a perfect husband and a family, and living happily ever after. She married Eric after a whirlwind romance, but then got divorced just a year and a half later. Fortunately she found love and marriage again with Im Joo-hwan. But one day, her best friend goes missing and Eric makes a surprising appearance at said best friend’s bachelorette party. Yoo Inna is then confronted with the truth and dilemma of who her former husband and her current husband really are.

Eric takes on the role of Jeon Ji-hoon. Posing as a travel writer by day, he works as a secret agent for Interpol and is described as responsible, intuitive, and highly skilled. When he met Yoo Inna, he was determined to protect both his career as well as his relationship. However, it became increasingly difficult due to the dangerous nature of his job and having to keep secrets from his wife. Their marriage became strained, and soon came to an end when Eric concluded to himself that he couldn’t always protect Yoo completely.

Im Joo-hwan plays Derek Hyun, who also lives a double life: working undercover as a government diplomat while secretly running a spy agency. He enjoys collecting and trading classic cars, considers himself highbrow, and is also courteous with a sweet and gentle nature. Meeting Yoo Inna was a turning point in his life. He fell in love with her at first sight and it brought out his romantic side. Although he continues his shady business in secret, he remains completely devoted to her and his love is genuine.

The newly released teaser starts with Yoo Inna’s narration: “Deceiving the other party as well as letting yourself be deceived; trusting them as well as pretending to trust. Marriage is a strategic war.” In a sequence of shots, we see someone making a wedding dress: measuring and cutting fabric, sewing, and adding details.

As the lace is swirled around, the camera mimics a spy glass as it closes in on the hand’s ring finger and transitions out of the scene. Cut to our three main leads, this time through the view of a target lens. Eric and Im Joo-hwan pose with guns while Yoo Inna holds a sharp pair of scissors – all dressed in wedding attire. The teaser ends with Yoo’s continuing voice-over: “Now, tell me the truth. The Spy Who Loved Me. Premiering October.”

Written by screenwriter Lee Ji-min (The Man Standing Next, Illang: The Wolf Brigade) and directed by PD Lee Jae-jin (The Banker, Woman With a Suitcase), MBC’s new Wednesday-Thursday drama The Spy Who Loved Me is currently set to premiere in October.

I haven’t seen any good MBC dramas lately. Will definitely check this out!

Maybe it is the different tastes in dramas, but I feel that MBC dramas have maintained a better standard for their dramas compared to other networks, in terms of both story and direction, despite their ratings. While I'm not sure about When I was most beautiful (since I haven't watched it yet), their dramas this year from Find me in your memory and 365, till Chip-in were pretty good.

I’m watching more cable dramas so yeah maybe it’s my taste. I’m still watching 365 and I am really enjoying it. I dropped WIWMB and haven’t seen Chip-In and FMIYM but will definitely add them into my list 😊

I hope this will be an enjoyable viewing experience... for any one else. I will be otherwise engaged watching another show, reading or just about any other activity I can think of.

Im Joo Hwan!!! Hopefully you'll get a happy ending this time~~~

I might check this out, the writer is a movie writer who wrote The Age of Shadows which I watched because.....it had Gong Yoo and Shin Sung Rok (obviously) ahahahaha 🤭. And writernim also wrote The Drug King which I have plans to watch because it has JJS and Bae Doona 🤓. Anyways, this will be writernim's first drama. I'm interested to see how a movie writer makes a drama.

Looks like October will be MBC drama month for me!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Did you hear that SSR's new drama Kairos alongside Record of Youth & Private Lives got a top drama award from The Ministry of Culture & Tourism/The Korea Creative Content Agency (KOCCA) which is a govt. agency that oversees and coordinates the promotion of the KR content industry. They recognized the excellent script & contents after thorough (pre)screening/script review.

Ohh..I haven't read that before. Thank you for the info 🥳. Does it mean the drama script is already complete?

Anyways..I read that MBC might abolish it's Mon-Tues slot after Kairos 🥺.

Np! Didn't Kairos start shooting earlier in May or June? So probably halfway through? I think its probably the first few episodes they reviewed?

MBC did that after that Rain drama 2 yrs back too :( I hear that KBS and SBS are also following suit too :( Maybe MBC wants to finish strong before abolishing that time-slot lol?

Yeah Kairos started shooting early. Hopefully they can finish early too and prevent hectic live shoot situation 😆.

Kairos is the only drama currently in MBC Mon-Tues slot, the slot is empty after Dinner Mate earlier this year and will be empty again after Kairos ends. Other channels have several dramas planned for Mon-Tues.

Anyways. I want Kairos to bring in good ratings for everyone involved. But...I'm setting my expectations low as it will air alongside Penthouse that has such a big cast and a very popular makjang writer and PD. Hua3

@katakwasabi I'm honestly shocked Korea can still film their dramas esp. with the big flare ups a few wks ago... They really should pre-produce all their shows tbh. Who knows when Covid-19 is going to flare up hugely again? Makes me wonder which shows are scrambling to finish production before that occurs again :O

MBC is quite wishy/washy on their Mon/Tues slot, they canceled it after Rain's drama and then back again.

Typically sci-fi dramas don't do hot ratings wise :/ Lol oh yeah Penthouse, that sounds makjang ha. May the best drama win!

Not only Covid, there were many typhoons this summer. Several drama filmings including Kairos were postponed due to adverse weather conditions too.

Recently MBC ratings is not good compared to KBS and SBS. MBC used to be a ratings powerhouse, the first channel to introduce the Mon-Tues slot was MBC. How things have changed over the years~~~

0

@katakwasabi That's right! Even more of the incentive to pre-produce dramas for the safety of cast/crew imo!

KBS is very lucky their weekenders do very well for them. Shocks me that WTCB did very well last Fall. But then Fall tends to do well (Mon/Tue and Fri/Sat) dramas tend to do better ratings wise. Def. a sign of the times. Sometimes MBC dramas surprise with LGBTQ inclusion (Love with Flaws)/Extraordinary You.

I think with more dramas from web/Netflix/Cable, the general public only has attention for a few select dramas (CLOY/HP/WOTM) were the only 3 dramas this yr to have hit it big domestically/internationally.

It could be James Bond type with Korean comedy caper. Nice title but good casting. OK, I'll try if I'm interested this.

Hearing that the person who wrote Age of Shadows/The Drug King is also writing this is very intriguing. Movies and tv shows are different mediums and writing too. I saw a teaser, but it wasn't much to gauge at the tone. I will say that the two men is this show are manly men, there's no flower boys here lol. Lucky Yoo Inna! (P.S she's such a likable actress on-screen).

Can Im Joo whan be the end game here or will he be again second lead, even though he get married with the girl???

Honestly, this is not my type of drama and I really dislike Eric, but I am conflicted because I love Yoo Inna since Reach of sincerity... And again, for me, Im Joo whan is such an interesting actor, always given secondary characters when he perfectly could be the main lead 😐

Well, at least, I can wish them all success.

You sound like a broken record for disliking Eric in every post. That energy is astounding. Sometimes people shine better in 2nd lead. I've seen many did well in 2nd lead roles but leave no impression when they take on main lead.

Lol, but Eric is not the only one I don't like... Hyun bin is also in that list, and Lee Min ho 😂😂😂😂

I am sorry, I am sorry. I bet they are very good people... also, as actors, they have their fans... that is good.

i am like you - except that i love eric - but, i'm not a huge fan of the likes of hyun bin or lee min ho either. i might watch their dramas, and sometimes i like them in it, sometimes not.

it's our prerogative to pick and choose who we like, want to watch.

you don't ever have to apologize on this site for stating your own preferences.

LOL, i am not sure he is a bad actor. I have only watched Eric in Another Oh Hae young. He can act for sure... But the character was so frustrating for me that I couldn't like him at all. Physically he is not necessarily ugly but not attractive either, and I just don't know... when I check up his dramas, I don't feel like tempted to watch anything. But I cannot really judge, it is just the vibe this actor gives me. Therefore, I personally don't or wouldn't look forward to watch anything he works in...

he's so robotic for me and picks the same characters (for SOME reason i have seen many of his dramas...)

i know what you mean, i feel the same as you! i feel that way about daniel choi too. lack of charm and not rly dynamic looks (not that you have to be attractive at all but it's just like if your acting can't be as good as it is movement and a face can make up for it!) but yea i guess i personally do not think he is good at his day job lmao

1

Well, I have just realised he is CEO of an agency precisely with Lee Min ho!-😂😂
We're talking about big bucks here, that definitively don't need another fan.... lol.
Now Daniel Choi... I have only seen him in School 2013, which I didn't finish, but he didn't give me particular vibe whatsoever. Nevertheless, lots and lots believe he is super charming and handsome and I cannot see it that way.
Talking about charisma or connection with you as an audience... many many Korean actors, even older ones, not so attractive ones, etc... have it. I think many times the industry idolize guys like Lee Min ho for their reasons, but when it comes to the beautiful connection an actor could have with his public... I wonder if they would be that successful.
It is a very subjective thing, I know... for people in general have doesn't taste... But then again, sometime some of these actors are overrated.

I meant people have different taste... 😅

0

some of them indeed are.

and i think when you feel that an actor can make a connection, other people can. for example i am not a big fan of yoo ah in anymore and i do not like his style of acting (and question if i think he is good at it) BUT he has a factor that makes people want to watch him, me included. now i may cringe a lot but in a way i think his face is made to be studied.

also there could be hidden gems. a lot of actors start in theater for a reason. there's also a difference between love of craft and doing things for money or to propel their status. so.

do i think lee min ho has charisma? none whatsoever. i used to love city hunter but certainly not for him. he has many fans for his own reasons but from my standpoint of judgement he is just There.

and your right about different tastes. anyways i don't see anything wrong with you mentioning him in posts that have something to do with him. it's not like you hate him and like....he's an actor. it is what it is. and you're right; we don't affect their $!!!!

i forgot daniel choi was in school 2013 and i watched all of it so that shows you how forgettable he is.

all the actors on ep 9 of house on wheels have that factor for me that i enjoy. something about them along with their prowess really draws me towards them. it can be anyone and any little thing but most people do identify with lots of different types of actors! i love seo ye ji bc watching her is absolutely fascinating and i suppose many feel the same (though many rel on looks. but whatever anyways i digress.) FEEL HOW U FEEL.

1

It looks quite interesting. I will definitely give it chance for Yoo Inna and Im joo-hwan even though I am not very fond of spy genre in general.

Hopefully it would be better than Good Casting which I did not even finish.

Eric looks hella fine playing a 30-something year old. It looks interesting with the writer who did The Man Standing Next, Forbidden Dream and The Age of Shadows to pen a drama for the first times. The production for this drama is the one who did Misty and Romance is a Bonus Book. I hope it will be good!

is she capable of playing a female character that maybe, perhaps, is not reliant on certain tropes (yes.) my lord. lmao.

i really like her and i really like im joo hwan but i can't see this being particularly fulfilling if it is centered around two men chasing her through deception. UNLESS she also becomes a spy? who am i kidding. but we shall see, i like her enough to check it out and endure. i also dont want them to break up not only bc i dont care about eric but bc i feel bad when couples in <3 break up in kdramas lmao
