100 days my prince,
18 again
True beauty
Chinese: you are my Destiny
And Sumbae, because it will end anyways.

I honestly feel so cheated after the whole Ji Soo thing. After his apology came out, my entire mood was Captain Raymond Holt saying " never love anything". I feel angry at the situation and so very sorry for all the victims. School life is already a time when you are figuring stuff out and to be bullied so ruthlessly must have wrecked havoc on the victims' self esteem.
In other news, my college has transitioned to offline mode with in-person classes. One of my school friends is also here and we finally got to meet in college today. We talked about life and our future plans and it was a great conversation because we realised that we had similar doubts and fears and even regrets. I've started researching and looking up my future career prospects and even though it is a bit stressful, I'm trying to take it one day at a time. I'm also trying to become more organised with money and clothes. Here is to having a better and healthier lifestyle.
PS: I moved up a size ( from medium to large) and even though I'm not having a crisis over it, I am a teeny bit sad about it. On the brighter side, I'm exercising daily and trying to have a healthier lifestyle.

I am fascinated with all thats being going on this last week or last few days. Not happy fascinated, but interested fascinated.

We had a drama going "on hold indefinitely", Dear M, because of school bullying. Now this thing with Ji Soo, and him being kicked out of a 9% rating drama that is on air, some episodes in and 18 episodes already finished filming.

"Hello My Twenties" is a favorite of many people, now with 2 actress from it involved in bullying. Do we still see this drama as the same as before or we do see as ah "nah", now? Can we separate the artist from the art? Another case is a fan favorite is "Strong Woman Do Bong-soon". Every time I need a cheer up, I watch this drama, but now, can I watch it again with the same feeling?

I also ask myself how the western part of the world would react to it. Seems to me we are pretty easy to forgive sometimes. (Bull is still on the air), but could we overlook and forgive something like this?

Hi all:

I am so over winter, right now.
Am in bed judging a fiction contest and trying to get 22 more stories read before i reward myself with a weekend of drama. Judging fiction is a hard row to hoe and it can leave a person with a numbed mind and tons of conflicts. Some of the stories are perfect all the way through then they fall apart on the ending. Some are just badly done but come from a good place. Some are well-written but the pretentiousness of the writer makes one want to scream. Some are wonderful little embryonic ideas that would make great novels if the writers were skilled. And some are so unintentionally funny that you just can't stop laughing. The trouble is that we cant just give the numerical rating, we have to find something good to say and some recommendations. Finding something bad to say about a perfect short story is as bad as finding something good to say about a bad one. So my poor brain is rattled. I'm soldiering on.

Dramas:

Hello Me: So many complications, and yet still so good! Who is that ghost in the building? This is so sweet and old-fashioned and standard kdrama that it's my drama crack of the month.

Must you go: Fun little web drama.
Times: Am loving this. Its solid and the writing is a bit slow. The direction isn't flashy but it feels well-written so far, unlike another time-traveling drama which I could not sit through this week.
Sisyphus: Tried to watch but couldn't
Vincenzo: Didn't watch at all.
Mouse: Going to start this weekend.

Cdramas:
Sword and Brocade. Very good. Not as great as Minglan but very good. The villainess high born concubine is going to go insane i think. Her nanny and maid kept encouraging her, which is never good for the delusional.
Sisyphus cdrama: Must begin
My Heroic Husband: silly and fun,
I've Fallen for you: Must finish
She would never know: Must start

Have a great weekend, all.

Judging a writing competition sounds really fun! Hello Me is surprisingly good! You must start Shw Would Never Know, it’s my favorite so far this year. No spoilers, but am so crazy in love with Hyun-Seung! (Played by Ro Woon.) Winter, be gone! 💨 ⚡️

Congratulations to Lee Si Young for being the first Korean actress to get more than 10 million followers on TikTok.

Her comedy skits are very funny. They can be seen on YouTube.

But it does show a trend on how many people want to consume their daily entertainment: quickly and on-line. With TikTok content, it is a minute or so. For a YouTuber content, it is less than 10 minutes. For a podcast, it is usually less than a half hour.

I also think the age of content consumers has a lot to do with which platforms are the biggest at any given moment.

For example, at my age (just call me ahjumma, lol), I much prefer blogs and podcasts, both for the richness of the content and the relatively passive method of consumption.

My kid, on the other hand, loves TikTok, and for slightly more in-depth content, YouTube. I used to be concerned that these forms of media discouraged longer attention spans and focus, but remote learning in a pandemic has really changed my views.

It's been a strange week in the k-ent world, hasn't it? Without going into too much detail, I've been slightly alarmed by fans online whose behavior I can only describe as apologist. Sigh.

Anyway, I have a day off from work today, and I'm using it to catch up on Vincenzo. I honestly did not expect much from this show, but so far, I kinda love it?

I also finished Mr. Queen and genuinely enjoyed the whole ride, even the ending (which I understand was a bit controversial for many viewers).

I just started watching the first season of Stranger on Netflix. It's terrific, and I can't believe nobody turned me on to it before.

Happy Friday, all! Stay safe and healthy. I hear birds chirping outside, so this long winter (both actual and metaphorical) may be over. Fingers crossed.

I watched Stranger with my brother, we both liked SiMook so much. Funny, we haven’t watched Stranger 2 because he thinks it will be too slow. He calls being too slow “filler” episodes where not much happens in order to stretch out a drama. He’s not all together wrong about that in general!

About Ji Soo, I’m depressed and angry. I can’t believe just last week , no lie, I marathoned Angry Mom and My First First Love because I had never seen either drama. I was on a Ji Soo kick, Then BAM, and I’m bummed. It’s Angry Mom in reality and that is truly awful. I’m sorry for the victims and hope those who have been bullied can gain strength and overcome their trauma. I’m rooting for the cast of River Where the Moon Rises to carry on as it’s got to be tough on them. I’ll continue watching to support their efforts.

What I’m watching : One Spring Night, Hello Me, She Would Never Know. Weekly K-variety shows keep my energy up: LoJ, Immortal Songs 2, Masked Singer, the Manager, Friends (new), 1N2D, Love Naggers, My Little Old Boy, Radio Star.

I’m thankful for a sunny day today and am cautiously optimistic that spring is on the way! ☮️ ❤️ 🦉

So in this bad time I just want you guys to have a happy weekend ahead. Stay strong and healthy beanies. Fighting!!!

With all that's happening with the bullying scandal, I wonder if a thorough background check would be part of casting process. It is afterall could potentially have multi million dollars impact.

2

Required fields are marked *

That might be tricky with minors though, and school records don’t reflect things like bullying, scandal, etc. Also, what would be considered hearsay, reputation, or rumors that, if unfounded, would cause unfair ramifications. Maybe it will get better from here on in, if reporting harassment, bullying or worse becomes more open in schools and perpetrators are held accountable. Can’t people just be good to each other (naive to a fault but the sentiments are real)?

5
reply

Required fields are marked *

I was thinking about that too. A thorough background and character reference check may be needed before they cast an actor/actress just like companies do drug test and background check as part of the hiring process.

3
reply

Required fields are marked *

It's not that simple because we're talking about minors. Even if abuse gets so serious as to reach a court, kids' identities always stay protected (at least in my part of the world). And, honestly, I think it is just right.

Required fields are marked *

Kids can do terrible stuff, but they aren't accountable the way an adult is. And having people being chased through life by whatever assholery they were up to in school isn't right, at least unless we're talking about extreme cases.

Any given person is capable of doing seriously bad stuff if they are enabled by the institutional culture they're living in (example: hazing rituals). Bullying happens in environments that allow it - if there's an institutional culture where nobody tolerates that stuff, these situations turn residual. It's just not fair to construe individual people as "good" or "bad": a lot of our behaviour is moulded by our environment and influences, specially in childhood. Therefore, the focus should be more on avoiding bullying than on individual cases.

This said, cancelling the most egregious offenders is also effective, at least to change the public feelings about school violence and to get kids to refrain from that kind of behaviour...
But let's not waste the chance to improve things just by sticking to chastising some public figures

I'm not saying that bullies shouldn't be called out and face (if that's the case, legal) consequences. Like, if Jisoo really did all that stuff, I sure don't want to watch him in dramas, there's loads of nice talented guys out there who deserve a chance at those roles - but I think that checking people's school records is going down a slippery slope

1

Required fields are marked *

I agree with what you're saying. Canvassing someone past life, especially during their formative years, will go down the slippery slope real fast. In addition to the legal and ethical dilemma, developing acceptance criteria would be extremely difficult as well.

Too bad jerks don't come with big neon sign pointing at them.

If you are an A-list talent, you are cast based upon ratings and popularity. If you are in a secondary tier, you are cast more on agency connections (or cross-connections/investments in production companies). A few bad actors are continually cast because of family/wealth connections.

I don't think most TV productions have the time or resources to do full background checks so they put in "moral" clauses in contracts (which are pretty universal in entertainment contracts penalty clauses).

Happy weekend Beanies and keep Beaning On!

My first happy OT of 2021!🥳

Amazing how small things can bring so much happiness. For the second week in a row I was able to work on my cases and learn to do my job properly during the day and crash with my personal laptop on the couch in the evenings!😊It is a simple lifestyle, but it seemed unattainable for many years due to my studies and unemployment. It felt extra rewarding after drowning in formations during work hours and homework after work hours for nearly three months. Not to mention health failing nearly every loved one around me at least once. On that note: warrior friend recovered and left ICU again, pfew!😌

My new formation starts this Monday and ends with another exam at the end of April. I am bracing myself for another difficult period like the one I just survived, but at the same time I cannot help but hope that the worst is behind me and that I will handle this one better. The formation circumstances certainly are a lot more agreeable now.😊

I am also excited to have caught up with Dramabeans and all the other stuff. Too excited, alas. K-dramas still do not fit into my current schedule but of course there are some March premieres I really want to check out now!😤I guess I should consider myself grateful that I can still leave comments on OT every week, but after those two lovely weeks I am getting greedy for more time in dramaland!😂

Anyone else struggling to figure out what happened in the first two episodes of Mouse? So many jumps backward and forward in time, so many possible psychopaths.
Is the little girl that asked unni to help her with her dad's car crash many years ago alive and part of our current day cast?
I made a chart, trying to follow the jumps so I could sort out who was who in the present day. No help, since we don't know the names of the young children.
I have never worked this hard on a drama, and that includes watching Black, my very first Korean drama.

Hi amruta1009, welcome to beanies who blog and Wordpress! Of your top 5 dramas, I actually recapped 38 Task Force on my blog http://www.cimiart.Wordpress.com. I’d love it if you’d check it out! It’s a lot of work and I have a huge respect for dramabeans recappers! I have a suggestion if you’d like: under tags, you can list a number of tags like the names of kdramas you mention or actors in them to get more search views. I think somewhere I read that up to 15 works well. Good luck on drama reviews on your blog. We’re all spreading the love for dramas!

Today I realised how sad situation in some parts of the world where life were taken off horribly, they can't live their daily life in peace, and that dreadful past of some figures in K-Ent world? I can only imagine how the assault victims have been living with the dreadful memories up until now :(
So yeah, I shouldn't be sulking over my 'not so normal' life situation, it sounds trivial compare to others,, I'm wishing all people the best and hope that they who are in a terrible situation will soon find peace..

The shows I'm watching live:
- Youn's Stay, up to ep 6: I reserved this for my Sunday's night, and I laughed hilariously with the whole gang when the sketch of Yu Mi and Seo Jin oppa presented, kekeke..and the one of Yu Mi's randomly shown up in random spot :DD
- Sunbae, up to ep 14: I like this soo much, the characters, the story, the cinematography,, the ending of ep 14 was unexpected, but at the same time kinda expected, I don't know how to describe it articulately, hahaa
-Be a Meal (a Good Supper), up to ep 36: my daily comfort,, the characters' childhood story is my most fave parts of the show, as I felt like they have the same childhood tidbit with mine, ah the wonderful memories of living with friends, family, grandma, neighbourhood ahjumma and ajusshi <3
I have a complaint though,,it's super annoying to see how characters in drama, where they were misunderstood by others, their response is just saying the name of the other people, without any other word! Young Shin (the female lead), when being misunderstood by Da Jung, and DJ looked so pissed, YS just respond by saying "Da Jung ah..", then the scene was like froze, no one say anything and do nothing for a good 3-5seconds, why in the world they (k-drama) do that?? it's super duper annoying..it's illogical! don't do that, Show!

*but I have to admit, i was so pissed while i watched the ep last night, but as I wrote this post, I was tickled just remembering the scene, well that k-drama for you, I guess :))

Beanies, where ever you are, please stay safe and healthy, and may you all have a wonderful weekend!

I think people judge too fast the ML like he was the worse. He's impatient and straighforward but he will put an effort to change. He will apologize for it too.
This drama is really about relationship and the characters are developping slowly by discussion together.

1
reply

Required fields are marked *

hmm..I was displeased, yes, with the ML's behaviour towards the FL in the first 2 ep, especially in that ending of 2nd ep, but I wouldn't say the first 2 ep of this show as dreadful, because I like other parts of it: the worklife, relationship (siblings), and other characters (big sis, workmates) in the first 2 ep, hence I had no issue to continue to ep 3-4 and finally enjoy the show so much in the later episodes because the good parts continued on and the drama finally shown how the ML character has grown steadily into a good man..I don't know whether the praise come from beanies (viewers) now has also come from those who disliked or even resented the first 2 ep, so may I suggest you to follow the unwritten rule of kdrama: when you are unsure, watch up to the 4th ep, and afterward if you still think that the drama isn't for you, just drop it 'cause it is very likely that drama isn't for you :) good luck!

Found the 2 first two episodes ludicrous, specially that scene at the bridal shop, it transported me right into my telenovela watching childhood days 🤣
I was about to drop it when I saw some good comments on the Beaniewall and powered through. It gets a lot better from ep 3, now I'm liking it a lot. As other Beanies pointed out, there's growth for the ML, and you get an explanation for his forceful behaviour (it doesn't make it ok to touch your coworkers uninvited, though 😋).
I like it that this OTP actually talks things through, negotiates the terms of their relationship at different stages, and up to where I'm at (ep 10) there's no stupid misunderstandings or noble idiocy. It also helps that Rowoon makes a cute giant puppy and we get all the standard k-romcom prettiness

It's already Saturday where I live, so wherever you all are I hope you're having a relaxed and happy time.

The weather is pretty hot around here, but I also can't say that I hate the green all year round. I love the sun and the bright blue sky. Great that somewhat the fine dust (PM 2.5) has already been somewhat cleared, so not it's possible for me to have a short walk in the evening. The workload from my study is pretty loaded, but I can say that I'm having a bit fun with some, if not all, of my classes. It's always fun if you are competitive when the situation calls for, and cooperative also when called for.

I hope you all have a great day.

P.S. I guess I'm in a drama slump now. I began watching 4-5 shows but ended up dropping all of them. Thirty but Seventeen seems promising but I'm not in my greatest mood to watch it. I think the character of FL is very similar to the one she played in My Golden Life. Having said that the dear little Chan always succeed in drawing me in so I will see if it's enough to pull me back.

There are many different types of birds coming to my house in the past year, and I'm happy watching them talking, fighting, singing, bathing, just walking or flying around lone or with the others.

Had some Kairos withdrawals so I went ahead and made a comic! It took me about a week to plan it out and complete it. I'm overall happy with how it turned out 😊

For anyone who might be interested, I figured I'd share it over here!

Warning that it contains major spoilers, as it features my favorite villain of the series. Twitter also unfortunately crops right at the last panel too😩...so here's also the tumblr link for anyone who wants to avoid that:

I've been trying to get myself to be more consistent with drawing, and I'm hoping fan art will help keep that going haha. This will also justify how much time I've been spending watching kdramas lately 😂, because oh man I've been going through em so fasT.
