First date jitters in new Yumi’s Cells teaser

A cute teaser was just released for upcoming live action animation drama Yumi’s Cells. Featuring Kim Go-eun (The King: Eternal Monarch) as the titular character, this drama is about an ordinary office worker who’s stuck in a rut.

For Yumi, every day is like the one before it — until she begins the flutterings of romance with Ahn Bo-hyun’s (Kairos) character. He is a game developer named Gu-woong, whose internal algorithm only understands “Yes” or “No.” He doesn’t know how to dress himself well or be sensitive about other people’s feelings. However, he is very direct about his own heart.

An animated movie clapper begins the teaser, and we see Yumi and Gu-woong awkwardly sitting on a sofa at his place. Yumi’s cells chatter in the background saying: “It’s already night?” “It’s kind of late.”

Gu-woong asks Yumi, “Since it’s still early, would you like to have a cup of coffee?” Yumi looks at the clock, and one of her cells thinks: “Is 11 o’clock considered early evening?” However, out loud she remarks, “Ah, I guess it is still early. Then let’s do it?” He gets up from the couch to pour her a cup. She fans herself as another cell replies to the first one: “Yes, 11 o’clock is definitely still early evening.”

Gu-woong gets out a mug and an espresso shot glass. Above the mug, it says “Takes 1 hour to drink,” while the shot glass says “Takes 5 minutes to drink.” Gu-woong chooses the large mug, and one of Yumi’s cells gets excited: “Does that mean he doesn’t want me to go home tonight?”

Yumi blushes bright red. He places the mug in front of her and scooches closer to her on the sofa. Their fingers touch, and their eyes meet. Then we see what the cells are doing.

Yumi’s cells are all captivated by watching the date unfold on a big screen. The love cell fans her face as it turns bright pink when Yumi and Gu-woong’s hands touch. The sensitivity cell can’t control her emotions and begins to shake with excitement, and the logic cell shushes her. The sexy cell is blush-toned as it imagines more action to come. Unfortunately, it all comes to an end when the hasty cell comes in late with the popcorn only to trip on the wire that leads to the movie projector. The scene in front of them is rudely unplugged, and the cells sit in the dark.

Yumi’s Cells will begin airing on September 17 on tvN. Its creative team will be helmed by PD Lee Sang-yeob (no relation to the actor), who also directed A Piece of Your Mind, and scripts will be penned by Kim Yoon-joo and Kim Kyung-ran.

The cells look super cute, but I can't get past Kim Go-eun or Ahn Bo-hyun's styling.

Me too, it is so bad and unfortunate. Especially ABH, I can get past KGE, but his hair and chin hair is so bad.

The styling is because they seem to be adapting exactly to how the characters were drawn in the webtoon, Ahn Bo Hyun's character really had a long hair cut and chin hair haha (just that Kim Go Eun's character was blonde but I guess they changed it to black to be more realistic, webtoons tend to have many different hair colours for easier characterisation)

I'm just glad they didn't make Yumi blonde. The rest seems to be following the webtoon.

All these teasers make me super excited about the adaptation! I'm such a huge fan of the webtoon and I'm afraid to be disappointed since my expectation skyrocketed now... Loved how they are staying faithful to the webtoon from the cast, design/animation, styling and even the furniture in their room!!!

Go watch it! You won't regret it hehe
It's the only webtoon which I follow each week for years ><
I think anyone can relate Yumi's growth in both her personal and professional life.

Am I the only one who thinks I could drink the big mug of coffee in 5 minutes? The small one in less than 5 seconds, though...

I'm looking forward to this and I hope it's good. I used to read the web comic and enjoyed it besides be eventually kinda falling off it.
