Drama viewership ratings for the week of Mar. 28-Apr. 3, 2022

It was a week for drama goodbyes, and I don’t think I like so many shows ending all at once like this. Even so, we saw the requisite bump in final episodes, and as for our premieres, Tomorrow made quite a splash on its premiere night, but then lost viewers to the new weekender It’s Beautiful Now (which didn’t do half bad, either). We’ll be welcoming a lot of new shows next week, and I can feel the drama ratings dice getting ready to roll.

PS: Business Proposal is still killing it.

Thank you so much 2521 for being brilliant in every possible way. You are now my most beloved Kdrama together with FoS 1.

And thank for for somehow also giving me a proper closure to my first and only bf. You gave me perspectives and allowed me to see the situation from the third-person perspective. ♥️

Yes, for proper closure! I too shed a bucket (or 2) of tears and had a flashback of how my own break-up went 13 years ago.
As Yi-Jin said, we have to be in love to know what heartbreak is...

Yes. I kinda understand HD because I poured all my heart into my first love too and the heartbreak was almost unbearable. Many questions were left unanswered. I couldn't understand why it didn't work out until I grew up. Some things work out and some things just don't and that's one truth of life.

I hope Business Proposal ends with its highest ratings and no breakups -- only weddings, honeymoons, and grandbabies.

Ahn Hyo-seop and Kim Se-jeong fulfilled their 10% ratings promise. https://youtu.be/kzBNZuZLlks

That was quite the drop from ep 1 to ep 2 of Tomorrow?!
I haven't watched it, but I thought it looked interesting. I wonder what made so many viewers drop it..maybe it will be back up next week?

Maybe because there are no other shows on Friday whereas there was stiff competition on Saturday?

Next week has Our Blues and My Liberation Diary starting on Saturday so I don't know if it'll pick up. I hope it does!

@cubely, Lelly19 give TOMORROW a look-see. I came aboard at the last minute and loved the first two episodes. That drop in ratings for TOMORROW is a head scratcher. It was reported that it had the highest ratings for a F/S premiere episode in MBC history. Can it really be because of IT’S BEAUTIFUL NOW airs on Saturday? I wonder.
According to AsianWiki:
MBC’s TOMORROW airs F/S at 10 pm (22:00).
KBS’s weekender IT’S BEAUTIFUL NOW airs S/S at 7:55 pm (19:55).
The two dramas don’t appear to overlap. I am pleased for one of my favorites Yoon Shi-yoon but a 50 episode weekender is probably not going to happen for me.

Oh it's so happening for me, 😂. At least for now.
I'm not a big fan of the weekend makjang family dramas, but I watched both episodes of "IT'S BEAUTIFUL NOW" thanks to Yoon Shi-Yoon and the veterans.
I didn't expect to like it that much, but I do. I'm unsure about the female lead and her ex, but everyone and everything else is heartfelt and relatable.

I tend to watch or half watch weekenders even if they are bad but the last two were too makjang for my tastes. This one seems promising though.

Oh no Kiara (and welcome back after a respite) even with a nod from you I don’t think I can work in IT’S BEAUTIFUL NOW.
The availability gods are being generous right now with upcoming dramas and Viki US will be carrying three I plan to watch: AGAIN MY LIFE, FROM NOW, SHOWTIME! and THE KILLER’S SHOPPING LIST. There is also on Netflix JCW’s THE SOUND OF MAGIC.
I am still waiting on the availability of Jang Hyuk’s RED SINGLE HEAR which should be on Kocowa/Viki but no word yet.

It's sort of a personal reason, I guess. I miss my grandparents, and some of these characters remind me of them.
I wish they were around to see their beautiful grandchildren. 😢

I'm counting on viki to pick up RED or whatever it's called.

Thanks for the update!

Great reason @kiara. NAVILLERA was one of my favorites dramas of last year and IBN’s Park In-hwan played the father of a family at supposedly age 70 which was 7 years younger than his actual age and his wife was played by Na Moon-hee who was playing a part probably 10 years younger than her actual age. Both were terrific and I am sure PIH will be terrific in IBN.

I think the reaction to it was positive but it overlapped with Twenty Five Twenty One and Love (ft. Marriage and Divorce) on Saturday. Tracer did better on Friday than Saturday too.

It's most likely because of the other dramas. But they will have a competition starting this Friday too which is Again My Life so let's see how it affects them. I watched Ep 1 and I personally didn't like it because it was too fantasy for me. But give it a try, you might like it more than I did.

Yup, that must be it.

But losing half of your audience is too much? Even Tracer's rating didn't go this low considering how wavve released all episodes on Feb 18 and mbc changed their schedule and even canceled their broadcast 2x in season 2. Maybe it's about the subject too? I'm sure suicide is uncomfortable for a lot of people.

I certainly wouldn't be surprised if the ratings stay lower. Fantasy mixed with a darker subject matter like suicide is a tough sell. The competition is going to stay tough too.

BUSINESS PROPOSAL received 11.6%- both days. I do not remember a rom-com doing even close to that in recent years. I do hope that the writers and executives in Lorea take full note. Remove the corruption stories, political and corporate intrigue and all of the other unnecessary garbage usually thrown in to a K-drama rom-com and let it be a comedy. Be sure to add actual comic elements and let us laugh. Leave a smile on the face of your audience. Do that and you know what you will get? You will get a hit.

Haraboji is back! (The one we loved in NAVILLERA). This time as the grandpa in the new weekender IT'S BEAUTIFUL NOW, which is off to a relatively slow start. The first episodes of a weekender are always introductory- and this one seems fairly standard faire. For all that it went off the rails in the second third of its run YOUNG LADY AND GENTLEMAN was above average while the weekender before that- REVOLUTIONARY SISTERS- was utter garbage, possibly the worst weekender ever. We shall see what the writer does with IT'S BEAUTIFUL NOW. So far it is too soon to tell.

I meant writers and executives in Korea (is in the ROK).

And I meant the last third of it run in YOUNG LADY AND GENTLEMAN. This is what happens when you post something before having one's first cup of coffee.

I presume that THIRTY NINE got a local ratings bump for the finale because SYJ's wedding news had been trending for days. Internationally, it seemed a lot of people dropped it late.

Thb I wondered throughout the whole drama why it had such high ratings.

I'm surprised 2521 didn't hit higher ratings. I'm not sure why it petered out at 10% for the latter half of its run. Maybe people aborted because they sensed a "sad" ending coming?

I thought so, too. And tbh, it's quite understandable given the time we are living in right now.

BUSINESS PROPOSAL is a well oiled rom-com machine. You get what you came for.. no more, no less. The biggest problem I have with 99% of rom-coms is that they get together about 2/3rds of the drama's run then we have to slog through so many episodes of fillers, loose ends or late manufactured problems before getting to the finale.

Dang, Tomorrow has such a big drop. I hope the ratings climb up to decent numbers despite the new competition this week.
