Kwak Dong-yeon, Lee Kyu-hyung

  • After finalizing casting, filming has begun for ENA’s next drama Gaus Electronics and Kwak Dong-yeon (Monstrous) is (finally) the male lead! The webtoon adaptation is an office comedy and also stars Go Sung-hee (Wind and Cloud and Rain), Bae Hyun-sung (Our Blues), and Kang Min-ah (At a Distance, Spring Is Green). Releasing later this year, PD Park Joon-su is attached to directed. [Sports World]

  • Lee Kyu-hyung (Voice 4) is joining the cast of Disney+’s blockbuster drama Casino, playing the younger version of Choi Min-shik (In Our Prime). Also starring Ryu Hyun-kyung (Doctor Detective) and Lee Dong-hwi (SF8) among others, film director Kang Yoon-sung (Long Live the King) is at the helm. [SpoTV News]
  • Over on KBS, If You Tell Me Your Wish has been slotted in for August and confirmed its main lineup: Ji Chang-wook (The Sound of Magic), Sung Dong-il (Ghost Doctor), Sooyoung (Move to Heaven), and Won Ji-ahn (D.P.). Production will be led by writer Jo Ryung-soo with PD Kim Yong-wan behind the camera. [JTBC]

  • TV Chosun’s black comedy The Witch is Alive released photos from the first script reading along with a new video teaser. I love seeing Lee Yuri (Lies of Lies) have so much fun with her character, and we get a good look at our other leading ladies as well: Lee Min-young (Love ft. Marriage and Divorce 3) and Yoon So-yi (Get Revenge). Premiering June 25, the main cast also includes Jung Sang-hoon (Again My Life), Kim Young-jae (Artificial City), and Ryu Yeon-seok (The Killer’s Shopping List). [News1]
  • ENA dropped a cute animated teaser for Weird Lawyer Woo Young-woo, narrated by an in-character Park Eun-bin (The King’s Affection). Park has some fun going through palindromic words in Korean, ending on the note that her name (Woo Young-woo) can also be read the same whether you go backward or forward. Releasing in June on both ENA and Netflix, the drama co-stars Kang Tae-oh (Doom at Your Service) and Kang Ki-young (A Moment at Eighteen). [Sports Chosun]
  • Netflix’s own series Money Heist: Korea – Joint Economic Area put out a new trailer as well and we finally get to see everyone’s faces! With part one launching on June 24, part two will be releasing later this year. The large ensemble cast includes: Yoo Ji-tae (When My Love Blooms), Kim Yun-jin (Ms. Ma, Nemesis), Park Hae-soo (Squid Game), Jeon Jong-seo (Mona Lisa and the Blood Moon), Kim Ji-hoon (Flower of Evil), Lee Hyun-woo (The Liar and His Lover), and Kim Sung-oh (L.U.C.A.: The Beginning) among others. [MBC]

  • Speaking of Yoo Ji-tae (When My Love Blooms), he’s already been fielding offers for his next project after Money Heist. One option is Vigilante, potentially joining Nam Joo-hyuk (Twenty Five Twenty One) and Lee Jun-hyuk (Dark Hole). Another possibility is to play opposite Lee Min-jung (Once Again) in PD Jin Hyuk’s (Sisyphus, Legend of the Blue Sea) new drama The Golden Age of Villains. [Newsen, Osen]
  • Yoon Kye-sang (Kiss Sixth Sense) and Jung Ryeo-won (Diary of a Prosecutor) are both in talks for a new drama called Both Husband and Wife Are Unemployed (roughly translated). Adapted from a popular essay written by Pyeon Sung-joon, the story is based on the writer’s own experiences when he and his wife quit their jobs, and is about enjoying life through playing rather than rest. [Xports News]
  • Kakao TV’s Welcome to Wedding Hell came out with a new teaser ahead of its premiere, which is now just a few days away. The rom-com stars Lee Yeon-hee (SF8) and Lee Jin-wook (Bulgasal: Immortal Souls), and will be coming to Netflix this Monday. [10 Asia, MBC]

Wouldn't Never Twice be Kwak Dong-yeon's first male lead role?

I'm going to wait until part two drops before watching Money Heist: Korea – Joint Economic Area.

I think, because Never Twice is a weekender, and therefore it's primarily an ensemble of familial stories, with equal screen time, it is not counted as a direct male leading role. Or at least, that's why I don't count it.

I thought Youn Yuh-jung was the true “lead” in the ensemble. At least, that’s how it felt to me while watching the drama. Though I fully admit to starting it only for Kwak Dong-yeon.

Wow. You're telling me Lee Hyun-Woo's last drama is The Liar and his Lover. Thats like eons ago. That's like before Song Kang hit it big.

Very selective when choosing drama, are you?

Two of those five years, he was in the military. Lee Hyun-woo has no success in dramas, while his movies are hits.

Everyone seems to be excited for Kwak Dong-Yeon's *first* lead role 😃.

We kind of already know that we don't need to worry about the acting, so I'll just be here hoping the producers and writers don't disappoint

If Lee Jin-wook's legs can't convince the public to watch his new drama, nothing can.

Dramas I'm excited for:

• Gaus Electronics
• Money Heist: Korea – Joint Economic Area (Also, is that Kim Ji-hoon with long hair in that picture?? I love it)
• Both Husband and Wife Are Unemployed (I can't even tell you why I'm looking forward to this. I just am)
• Welcome to Wedding Hell

Dramas I'm not so excited for but will check out because I like the cast:

• Weird Lawyer Woo Young-woo
• The Witch is Alive

I was trying to sound out the weird lawyer Woo Young Woo's name in reverse as if it would be a real palindrome: Oow Gnouy Oow

I'm just a little worried about this show that if I view the episodes in reverse order, I'll fall prey to satanic messages.

1. KWAK DONG-YEON MALE LEAD LETS FUCKING GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! I have literally never wanted anything more and can now die in some semblance of peace. After I watch this drama, of course.

2. Choi Min-shik in a drama, goddamn. Disney+ Is pulling out the big guns here. Lee Kyu-hyung is gonna be extra amazing in this, I just know it.

3. Won Ji-ahn was very memorable in D.P despite being basically a guest star, so I’m glad to see her get more work. Soo-young and Sung Dong-il are also good. Ji Chang-wook hasn’t fully redeemed himself in my eyes, maybe this could be a necessary second step.

4. Looks less makjang-y than Lee Yu-ri’s typical fare so I might check it out after all. That’s good because I love Lee Yu-ri.

5. Park Eun-bin’s voice in that teaser was super cute. I never would’ve realized it’s her without the post telling me. I didn’t know this is a June drama, that’s so soon.

6. Hell of a cast and an interesting Korean-specific premise. I’m so excited for this. Also did I spot a long-haired Kim Ji-hoon? Oh this cast was made to please one person and that person is ME.

7. Yoo Ji-tae world domination, you love to see it. Personally I’m hoping he chooses Vigilante even if the other title is cooler sounding.

8. God, I too wish to be liberated from the shackles of monotonous employment, but alas, there are bills to pay and dramas to watch. Like this drama.

9. Not in the mood for something like that at the moment and the pair isn’t quite up my alley either. But who knows. My mind can be changed by a few good reviews.

3) It was the first role of Won Ji-Ahn, she got a pretty cool one in a great drama with great actors. She was pretty lucky. I would love to see her as a lead because I don't like Soo-Young as an actress.

The Witch Is Alive looks mighty fun -- but also, potentially, like something I might have to drop after only one episode. Definitely have to check it out.
