D.O. is an impetuous Bad Prosecutor in a tracksuit

An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth — have you ever seen a prosecutor who fights his battles like that? KBS’s upcoming legal drama Bad Prosecutor centers around a hero who does just that, and if its poster is anything to go by, our tracksuit-wearing protagonist is sure to deliver some laughs and a well-deserved whooping to the bad guys.

D.O. (100 Days My Prince) makes his post-military dramaland comeback as prosecutor Jin Jung, whose claim to fame is that he’s known for being the resident crazy guy in the prosecutor’s office. That makes his name extra funny, since it means “calm” — but I have a feeling he gets told to calm down more often than not.

Apparently Jung’s hotheaded ways reach unprecedented levels of brashness, making him a good-for-nothing delinquent in the eyes of his fellow prosecutors. Still, while Jung might not be the sharpest tool in the shed, he has his heart in the right place. When the scales of Lady Justice fail to protect the weak, Jung is ever-ready to unsheath his proverbial sword and fight on their behalf.

He’s joined by the calm and competent Shin Ah-ra, played by Lee Se-hee (Young Lady and Gentleman). She’s a prosecutor too, but that’s about the only thing she has in common with Jung. In contrast to his unconventional ways, Ah-ra is rational, level-headed, and by-the-book; her adeptness at playing the social game makes her well-liked by her colleagues.

Their opposing personalities may seem like a prime breeding ground for conflict, but as a senior prosecutor, Ah-ra is obliged to look out for Jung. As she tries to rein him in, her worry and concern may just grow into a sense of protectiveness over him — looks like there’s a reason Ah-ra is described as having tsundere charms.

Helmed by director Kim Sung-ho (Move to Heaven) and written by Im Young-bin (Sketch), Bad Prosecutor is slated to air on Wednesday and Thursday nights. The drama will run for 12 episodes, starting October 5.

Crazy looks good on Kyung-soo. The tracksuits do too.

Are these style tracksuits making a comeback? As they are appearing in every other drama like a uniform now. The same wardrobe department that kitted out Gyeorye in a loanshark mobster look must be doing this one as well.

His track suit reminds me of Lee Seung-gi in Law Café 😂.

We have had an abundance of legal dramas this year haven't we

The thing is it just comes across as lazy way to conjure up slacker. We have seen this done in other dramas e.g. Yumi was worried about being caught looking a mess in public by Babi. Hers was just a more normal we can all relate to it look, where as these tracksuits do they still make them and how come everyone gets them in red🤣

Another legal drama?! It seems to be this season's fave theme in kdramaland.

Why are the tracksuits always red? 🤔 I mean, eventually we see the blue or green one, but they always present the character with the red one. 😂

welcome back D.O.! been waiting for you along with an army of others! He is another actor who can bring others up by being around them. He is cracktastic at comedy or drama. so glad to see him back and in his element. they could have left out the tracksuits though. or at least something other than red.

Another legal drama with a red tracksuit-wearing ML, huh? I guess the pandemic really brought those back into popular consciousness. Well, the look suits Kyung-soo, even if I’m not sure the hair does.

I agree about the hair. I'm hoping it either is not like that the whole time or I just get used to it and it's not as distracting. Didn't he just have lovely long hair a minute ago? Why can't we have more of that in dramaland?

The tracksuit makes me think of the law cafe. The fighting prosecutor makes me think of again my life. The hothead personality makes me think of you're all surrounded (even though those characters were detectives)

But I'm sure the folks involved in this will put their own takes on things.

Track suit: Don't call it a comeback!!! The Uncanny counter started the trend and Squid Game cemented it. D.O. said I will not be left out, ha.

As a person with naturally curly hair, I feel somewhat bemused by the KDrama world’s pervasive mixed up feelings and dare I say bias against curly-headed persons. I don’t know whether this is an exaggerated or somewhat accurate cultural view. Did Joseon’s hierarchical Neo-Confucianists designate curly-heads as non-filial good for nothings who were undermining the straight-haired nobility? If KDramas are even a tiny bit accurate when it comes to some cultural beliefs, then not a good look to have natural curls. I have seen the characters portrayed as dysfunctional; rebellious (this I don’t mind), ugly ducklings and now somewhat dim but with a good heart (talk about damning with faint praise). Sigh…

I have always thought of it in reverse of what you have written. Curly hair is very rare in far eastern genes. So I have always thought of those characters who curl their hair in dramas doing it as a sign of rebellion, misguided fashion, naivete, or trying to stand out in any way feasible.

Yes, I’m aware of the rarity of curly hair in this context but my point isn’t necessarily in total opposition to yours as I acknowledged the possible rebellion angle. However, in the instances I was thinking about, the characters never mention that they got perms. It was treated as their natural hair texture and hence that aspect of their personas wasn’t a choice. I can’t be bothered to list them here but I admit D.O.’s character, Jung, might have gotten a perm in this Drama so I will wait and see if it is more fuel for my observation or not.

I agree I know certain themes come and go but they don't really have that many distinct elements to distinguish between them. They also seem to forget to be convincing in the court room and have something ridiculous happen that even as a non lawyer you think wouldn’t that called out?

The other common ones recently are zombies or random plagues, and I have recently watched or have seen on the coming soon list fantasy body swaps usually with a gender or age switch.
