Kim Dong-wook and Jin Ki-joo travel to the past in You, Whom I Met By Chance

The promo train has begun for KBS’s new fantasy You, Whom I Met By Chance with photos from the first script reading as well as character stills of leads: Kim Dong-wook (King of Pigs) and Jin Ki-joo (Showtime Begins).

Our hero Yoon Hae-joon (Kim Dong-wook) is a reporter and news anchor who is trying to find the truth behind a serial murder case that happened in the past. This compels him to take a trip in time, back to 1987, and he’s curiously joined by publishing company employee Baek Yoon-young (Jin Ki-joo).

The details have not yet been revealed, but Yoon-young’s intention is to stop her parents from getting married and our two protagonists discover that there’s a connection between their two goals. The problem, of course, is that they become stuck in 1987 and what unfolds afterwards becomes a strange yet beautiful experience for our OTP.

In supportive roles, Seo Ji-hye (Love All Play) and Lee Won-jung (Extraordinary Attorney Woo) play the younger 1987 versions of Soon-ae and Hee-seop respectively – presumably, Yoon-young’s parents. Their older counterparts in the present are played by Lee Ji-hyun (Love All Play) and Lee Kyu-hwae (Wild Boar Hunting).

The supporting cast also includes Kim Jong-soo (Snowdrop), Kim Hye-eun (May It Please the Court), Kim Jung-young (Anna), and Jung Shin-hye (Cheer Up) among others.

Production is being led by writer Baek So-yeon (Tale of Nokdu) along with PD Kang Soo-yeon (Tale of Nokdu, Ghost Detective) and PD Lee Woong-hee. KBS drama You, Whom I Met By Chance is slated to broadcast January 2023, in the Wednesday-Thursday slot.

South Korea, 1987. I am starting to fear for the fate of the characters.

I didn't finish JKJ's last drama, but I find her delightful, so will watch, plus KDW.

Kim Dong-wook✅✅✅✅+ Jin Ki-joo(My first time watching her) is a delight to my hears and eyes. Time travel ✅. Cool. But 1987, I hope we do not have a Youth of May situation here.

Drama gods, no 1987 plot device at the forefront or core, please. 1987 should just take farthest back seat.

You need to go find something to watch with JKJ. She is, as @kafiyah-bello said, a delight. I would recommend the Secret Lyfe of My Secretary the most if you can handle a mad cap rom com and the Fish Cult, and then Come and Hug Me for something more slow and sweet and sombre for a at very least servicble thriller melo (and also Kim Kyung Nam in a great supporting role, and JKY as a tree before he turned into a plank of wood I mean what).

Kim Dong Wook has been one of my faves. I like that he takes on different, compelling roles so definitely want to give this drama a try.

Not familiar with Jin Ki Joo, but heard good things about her.
