[Drama chat] What was your favorite drama kiss of 2022?

Did you notice Best Kiss was most conspicuously missing from our Beanie Awards? That’s because we’ve made it its own Drama Chat this year. And its own poll. With a write-in option. We take these things very seriously, you see.

What was your favorite drama kiss of 2022 and why?

Let the chatting (and polling) begin!

PS: Please note the header photo doesn’t indicate a winner or a personal preference. ‘Tis merely some Jinyoung hand appreciation. Merry Christmas!

Hands down Kim Min-gyu and Seol Ina's kiss in Business Proposal, and my favorite part about it was when he took off his glasses! The unholy way I screamed during that scene. 🤭🤭🤭

Totally agreed.
The moment he took off his glasses my heart skipped a beat 🤩🤩🤩

I totally agree with you- how did that not make the list?

He has some range too. I saw an episode of the lamentable ‘Snowdrop’ and KMG was genuinely and disturbingly good in his role.

Completely agree, but gotta give second place to Tae-moo and Ha-ri's stolen kiss in the furniture showroom.

If I chant their names, will they appear and show me the way? 🥺

I promise I didn't watch that scene a few hundred times 🥺🥲

I love that the picture is Yumi and Babi🥰. I hope all those that voted other put the details in the comments section so we know which kiss they are referring to as I only saw one of the ones listed.

Thanks for the shoutout, @mmmmm! Yes, it is true, that I have high standards when it comes to kdrama kisses: once love is confessed, they must be numerous.

For that reason I have to reject the listed possibilities I did not see Yumi's Cells, once I read that the couple was not going to stay together. If the kiss will have no emotional context other than the heroine's growth as a person, then they might as well show her studying for a professional certificate or doing an intense stationary bike workout.
As for the other two, the Alchemy of Souls kiss was in front of a petrified corpse. That's kind of a buzz kill in my book. Also, we found out subsequently to the kiss, that if the couple had accidentally knocked a set of sleigh bells off the pedestal, he would have been kissing a petrifying corpse who would have been trying to stab him. Again, not a romantic moment in memory!
Finally, the last kiss listed from Good Job, was indeed genuinely intense, and would have been by far the best kiss of the year that I saw, except, IMHO, it really did come out of nowhere. In fact, Sera and Sun-woo had great chemistry, but it was a comfortable one, not one based on emotional intensity. And then, of course, there was the quantity issue: I don't know that they had another one in the last episode, whereas, at the risk of repulsing with too much information, I would say if I had a kiss like that, I would have tried at least one more!

Right, but it would not be an informed one. One of my favorite kdrama kisses of the year was Extraordinary Attorney Woo, because it reminded me of my first kiss, which occurred about 5 years ago. Prior to that my wife and I shook hands, as is the custom in Northern California.

You and your wife shook hands. I like a good tongue in cheek comment.

"the Alchemy of Souls kiss was in front of a petrified corpse. That's kind of a buzz kill in my book"
I see your point, ha! ha!

Also, seems like great pun potential... like 'so hot it could wake the dead' or some such!

I voted Yeom Ki-jeong and Mr Gu in MLN in the other category. And I have recounted why it was my pick in the Drama Roundups.

So I'll be talking about my close second best kiss - Kiss Sixth Sense

I might have been a Pil-yu(Kim Ji Suk) fan during the time it aired but gawd! Yoon Kye-sang can kiss. Seo Ji-hye can kiss.
KSS is the drama that teases us about a kiss not in the previews but as premonitions, and despite seeing the snippets several times with the snippets revealing more passionate details sometimes, it never took away the passionate desire when the kiss finally happened cause it delivered. It was as if we were given no premonitions at all.

Yumi and Babi yes to all of that!! It's so nice to see a really good kiss scene without the lips just pressed together. We've come a long way lol.

I voted for other : Seasons of Blossom.

I like a sexy kiss like in Yumi or Business Proposal but for the best one I need a couple I believe in, with good chemistry, a kiss scene that corresponds to their feelings and their character.

I voted for Gu and Min-yeong, and that remains my favorite. But there were a lot of great kisses this year including. In addition to the ones listed above, I'd add:

--"May I Help You" Street Confession Kiss
--"Seasons of Blossom" Post-Rain Kiss
--"Alchemy of Souls" Their final kiss of Part I; I also really liked last week's kiss, even though it was bittersweet
--"25/21" NYE's Kiss

Someone said YumBab kiss (might) have no emotional context rather than the heroine growth, i beg to differ, it was nothing like that 🤣 one of the hottest passionate kiss scene i ever watched in dramaland for sure without the needs of doing it in bedroom or pretty landscape, but inside the car which, a VERY common place for a couple to kiss irl too. And to think that was their first kiss, their next on screen kiss also took on the heat too, thanks Yumi’s Cells 2 for all the kiss scenes 😂

@autumnjy That was me. I was joking. I haven't seen Yumi's Cells 2, only read the recap. Sorry to offend in a weak attempt at humor. BUT let me ask you, if the kisses were so hot, why weren't they together at the end? Aren't hot kisses the only thing that counts in a romance?

None taken, dw 😅

Their kisses are very hot to me since i’ve watched it, if you want to know how hot it is then watch it yourselves, and later if you think thats not hot enough, then thats okay too? Why would hot kisses be an indicator of a couple to be end game anyway 😅

And since you asked why they dont end up together, idk maybe ask the writers? bcs how the writers ended yumbab relationship in the drama is very weird and doesnt make sense to me, but their kisses are a must watch for drama lovers imo.

I wanna nominate two same sex make-out scenes in ‘To my star’ and ‘To my star 2’. If you haven’t watched these, not only have you missed out on seeing the super charming and talented Son Woohyun as Kang Seojoon but also how incredibly - ahem - passionate these scenes were. Apparently, a lot of these BLs are written by women so it is not surprising that they resonate beyond the genre.

Was Best Kiss in past Beanie Awards? Seeing as how there are only three options, there were no memorable kisses this year.

In 2021, I would've voted for Vincenzo's "Do you believe me now?" kiss.
In 2020, It's Okay to Not Be Okay's count to three kiss.
2022? I've got nothing.

Yumbab in Yumi's Cells had the best kiss because I trully scream when I watched it. This is pertaining to the best kiss not something else, the way you feel the real kiss not just lips are pressed. I love how the nervousness of Yumbab when they had the first kiss on the car and much when Babi slowly pulled Yumi by her hand just to be closer to him and also pressing her nape just to reach her mouth.

1- "Business Proposal" cafeteria corner kiss (still waiting for the wedding scene) and glasses kiss, 2- "Love in Contract" couch kiss, 3- "If You Wish Upon Me" garden kiss, 4- "Fanletter, Please" bridge kiss, 5- "2521" snow kiss (still hate the ending). Still haven't seen Alchemy of Souls--love both leads but fantasy genre is not my fav.

I actually didn’t like either of the two kisses from dramas I’ve seen above (haven’t seen Yumi’s Cells 2); in both of them the editing felt jarring and it made them feel unsatisfying. Of the three I’d say Good Job was my favourite but argh why did they cut it so she moved without appearing to move?!

I’m going to give my vote to The Law Cafe - it was only mediocre at most things but did have good kisses - for the kiss after Jung Ho gets rescued from the teenage kidnapper and just about eats Yuri alive 😅

My favorite kisses are the ones that had me cheering and swooning for the main couple, regardless of how hot or otherwise they were. With that, I have to go with two main kisses:

1) The hat kiss in 25, 21 (with a nod to the NY kiss that initiated it all): We had been watching Hee-do become aware of her feelings and Yi-jin try to hold himself back for so long that this may just be the most satisfying kiss in all k-drama-dom. I said it.

2) The teaching kiss in Extraordinary Attorney Woo. The responsive way in which Jun-ho steps in to go for the initial kiss, then steps back when he sees that Young-woo gets flustered and needs a minute -- and then she initiates. The beautiful way that the couple (instigated by Young-woo) communicates with each other, even about things that would normally be awkward, like why a kiss wasn't great. The kind way in which Jun-ho teaches Young-woo how to kiss. All of it was just lovely and right where it needed to be.
