Premiere Watch: One Day Off

Time slot: Wednesdays
Broadcaster: Wavve
Genre: Slice-of-life, travel
Episode count: 8

Reasons to watch: The promos, form, and vibe of this little drama remind me a lot of an old favorite Cheers To Me, so I’m looking forward to following our heroine on her day trips. Lee Na-young plays a burned out teacher that starts going on little trips around the country to recharge and refuel herself. Because of the drama’s omnibus form, it’s obviously ripe for great guest appearances — so on each trip our heroine will interact with everyone from Seo Hyun-woo and Gil Hae-yeon to Gu Kyo-hwan and Han Ye-ri.

In a summer drama cycle that’s brimming with “louder” dramas — anticipated adaptations, high-buzz horror, and big budget rom-coms — this little drama might be the perfect balance.

TL;DR: Short-form slice-of-life drama chock full of cameos and thoughts on life

I'm interested in this. You don't really see slice-of-life Kdramas for some reason, but I've been really enjoying my slice-of-life Jdramas and hoping it would become a thing in the Kdrama landscape. Definitely gonna check it out.

This one seems like out of a sub-genre of Japanese mangas/anime called Iyashi-kei (癒し系). It is a genre where mostly the characters are just living out their life, enjoying their work, with an unhurried story pacing, and a calming ambiance. Most of the manga from this genre do not even really have a working story.

I grew up loving some of the works from this genre like the Aria series, Natsume's Book of Friends series, and Yokohama Shopping Log.

I love this show!! Two episodes in and I am rejoicing in my return to K-drama.
No revenge.
No makjang.
No serial killers.
No tropes.
No chaebols (yet).
Just people, getting through their lives in the best way they can manage. The reason I fell in love with K-dramas in the first place.

There is going to be a weecap on this one so we can all express our joy that decent dramas where everyone understands that less is more are finally coming back.
