Flying underwear and Park Sung-hoon in ENA’s Strangers

With Jeon Hye-jin (Uncle) and Sooyoung (Please Send a Fan Letter) as our unconventional mother-daughter pair, ENA’s first teaser for Strangers offers plenty of shenanigans – in addition to some very awkward encounters.

Jumping straight into the opening dilemma, we watch as Jin-hee (Sooyoung) bangs her head in frustration while also laughing at the incredulous situation. The appearing captions repeat her voiceover: “I ended up seeing the most traumatic thing in my whole life.”

We then cut to Jin-hee confiding what happened to her friend: “Have you ever seen your mom have XX?” In the sequence that follows, we see that our free-spirited mom Eun-mi (Jeon Hye-jin) is very comfortable with her daughter, showing off her enhanced ahem padding and persuading Jin-hee to go for a second round of drinks.

The intermittent text screens announce that they have: “A chaotic mother-daughter relationship that you’ve never seen before.” I’m thankful, though, that I’m on the other side of the screen because I don’t know how Jin-hee will show her face at work after the underwear incident with Park Sung-hoon (The Glory).

As we come to a close with the final sequence, we see how trouble often follows Eun-mi while Jin-hee is stuck cleaning up. She screams in frustration at one such mess in her room and then takes a moment to seriously ask her friend, “Is my mom not strange?”

With production led by PD Lee Min-woo (Cinderella and the Four Knights, God’s Quiz 4) and writer Min Sun-ah, ENA’s Strangers premieres on July 17 in the Monday-Tuesday slot.

Hum... it's only me or they look like sister and not mother-daughter? Jeon Hye Jin looks super young.

She is 14 years older in real life, and I guess it is plausible to assume from what we are shown that she touches up her face too.

I think the assumption might better be who doesn’t get ‘ahem’ cosmetic and surgical help in the KD world. Soft filters and heavy make up can only do some of the heavy lifting!

I'm guessing Soo-young plays younger than her real age and the mom probably had her in high school. And I'm guessing the mom character also dresses young too to emphasize how she's really not your traditional mom.

I hope this will be somewhere easy to access! I definitely want to give it a try.

Me too…but in searching for it on the open internet just now, I found that it’s going to be really hard to pinpoint accurate information with a title like Strangers!!

You have to negotiate this: “No, internet, not the Kdrama Stranger (aka Forest of Secrets)…and no, internet, not the Kdrama Strangers Again…just Strangers!”

It will be on Disney. 🤬 I sometimes have better luck searching a streaming service site for an actor's name and then looking for their dramas.

The mom character looks like she could be pretty annoying, but Park Sung-hoon's bemused reactions to airborne skivvies and other indignities could make it worthwhile. I've only seen Jeon Hye-jin in Search: WWW and she doesn't even look like the same person here.

@elinor - Thank you for finding that!! Bah. Disney. But maybe that will mean Hulu?? I'd also love to try Moving, and I'm hoping that will get put on Hulu, too.

This is definitely Ab Fab the Korean version. Looking forward to it.

It’s not right. No one’s underwear under any circumstances should be flying anywhere unless they are a chubby toddler who has taken off theirs and is heading for the hills to evade the adults!

Unrelated to this drama (sorry!) but Disney+ in my region is advertising the season 2 of “Shadow Detective” with Lee Sungmin and Jin Goo coming on 5 July!
