Sooyoung becomes Jeon Hye-jin’s daughter in ENA’s Strangers

The first promos have arrived for ENA’s upcoming Strangers, with cute new posters of our mother-daughter pair along with stills from the comedy’s first script reading.

Based on an acclaimed webtoon by the same title, the drama adaptation has Jeon Hye-jin (Uncle) playing the free-spirited and cheerful single mom Eun-mi, who proudly carves her own path in the world – social conventions be damned. She also holds her own professionally, as an accomplished physiotherapist. But she is still very much a child at heart, leaving unintended messes like a trail behind her.

As a result, it’s often her 29-year-old daughter Jin-hee – played by Sooyoung (Please Send a Fan Letter) – who is always nagging and picking up after mom. Of the two, she’s much more cool-headed, calm, and collected. Although she works as a police officer at a local post, sometimes Jin-hee feels like she’s losing focus, spending more time looking after Eun-mi than her own responsibilities.

In the romance division, Ahn Jae-wook’s (The Empire) character is the mysterious ENT specialist Jin-hong, who suddenly appears in Eun-mi’s life one day. Park Sung-hoon (The Glory), on the other hand, is Jin-hee’s police boss, the prickly but soft-hearted Chief Jae-won.

Supporting cast includes Kim Sang-ho (Bad Prosecutor), Ahn So-yo (The Glory), Yoon Seok-hyun (Taxi Driver 2), and Sohn So-mang (Kokdu: Season of Deity) among others.

Directed by PD Lee Min-woo (Cinderella and the Four Knights, God’s Quiz 4) with scripts by Min Sun-ah, ENA’s Strangers is slated to premiere on July 17, following Lies Hidden in My Garden in the Monday-Tuesday slot.

He’s a great actor disappearing into his roles.

He’s actually a wonderful romcom lead. In addition to Into The Ring/Memorial, you can try the one-episode special drama:
https://mydramalist.com/30764-drama-special-season-9-my-embarrassing-days. It’s a short delightful watch.

The Glory does help draw more attention to this worthwhile actor.

Oh looks like my kind of drama but can we actually relax into assuming this is going to be a nice watch? Just a bit concerned that she is a police officer so this could leave the door open to some kind of negative energy impacting the story.

Park Sung-hoon as the love interest and not an evil villain??!? YES YES A THOUSAND TIMES YES. I have prayed for times like these.

*Remembers other actors exist* Uhhh, the rest of the cast is great too. Love both our leading ladies and it’ll be a treat to see as mother-daughter.

I hope Park Sung-hoon's success in The Glory will save him from the disaster of Joseon Exorcist and he will take him definitely as main lead and nice one!

if the daughter is 29 the mom should at least be 49? but I cannot even tell which is which! this is confusing!

If she's 49 then she's no longer a teen mom :) . The premise clearly states that she's a teen mom, and we see that we are dealing with a young teen mom if you look at the age difference.

I think it will be like a British comedy called Absolutely Fabulous where the young mum never grew up and even though she is now an Ajumma she acts younger than her daughter in that case the daughter was younger than 29 years old. The daughter was also really serious and geeky in that show whilst the mum was always drinking and being extra annoying and her friend was equally irresponsible, I expect they will go for a similar dynamic in this show.

OMG please please please let it be like that. And as OTT (but there would be smoking ;))!!!!!

I’d MUCH rather AbFab than Freaky Friday’s vibe but with no actual body-switching (blech).
