Jeon Yeo-bin grieves for Ahn Hyo-seop in A Time Called You

A remake of the popular Taiwanese drama Someday or One Day, the Netflix series A Time Called You stars Jeon Yeo-bin (Glitch) and Ahn Hyo-seop (Romantic Doctor Teacher Kim 3) in a romance that transcends time. When our bereaved heroine travels back to the past via a mysterious cassette tape, she’s given a second chance to chase happiness with her beloved.

For the past year, Han Joon-hee (Jeon Yeo-bin) has been mourning the loss of her boyfriend Gu Yeon-joon (Ahn Hyo-seop), unable to move on in his absence. One day, she comes across a cassette tape labelled “Seo Ji-won 2,” with a handwritten note inside — “I hope this music takes you to your happiest moment.”

Joon-hee presses play, her mind rewinding through precious memories of the time she and Yeon-joon spent together. A simple lunch shared as they moved into their new home. A joyful drive through town. A sweet kiss in an empty classroom. A sun-kissed beach date, and a playful chase amidst a rain shower.

When Joon-hee opens her eyes, she’s back in the year of 1998, in the body of high school student Kwon Min-joo. At school, there’s a shockingly familiar face — fellow student Nam Shi-heon is the spitting image of Yeon-joon. He’s joined by his best friend Jung In-kyu — played by Kang Hoon (The Secret Romantic Guesthouse), yay! — though they’re not above engaging in fisticuffs, since In-kyu soon develops an unrequited crush on Min-joo.

Overwhelmed by the unexpected reunion-of-sorts with the doppelgänger of her lost love, a tearful Min-joo can’t help but find herself drawn to Shi-heon. Before long, the trio forge an adorable friendship, riding their scooters down a cherry blossom road and enjoying a carousel ride together.

However, it soon becomes apparent that not all is right. As the dreamy color palette grows cold and the soundtrack turns ominous, we see glimpses of tragedy. Our two leads have both been involved in traffic accidents, and it seems the magical cassette tape is at the heart of this mystery. Its music may have granted Joon-hee’s wish to return to a time with Yeon-joon in it, but will there be a price to pay?

Helmed by PD Kim Jin-won (My Country: The New Age), with scripts adapted by Choi Hyo-bi (Babysitter), A Time Called You drops on September 8 on Netflix.

Looking forward to seeing this on Netflix next month. I watched the original Twn. series but have yet to see the Twn. movie on Viki. The way the main characters moved in and out of various timelines using a music cassette reminds me of how Extraordinary You moved between the Stage and the Shadows of the comic book. Looking forward the Korean production.

Well, then... Rowoon's cameo in this going to be a lot more meaningful for you, then? Additionally, he's rumored to appear in a school uniform! :)

There is so much potential here with an excellent source material.
Unfortunately the original Someday or Oneday is not streaming on any legal site within the USA. I ended up buying the DVD just to watch that show. I haven't watched the movie yet on Viki, but I know that I will. I haven't been blown away by any Kdrama from Netflix in 2023 so far, but I have high hopes that this show bucks the trend.
Excuse me while I dig though my attic looking for a cassette walkman.

I also forgot to mentions that I only heard about Someday or Oneday from some Beanie post here months ago. I've long lost that post, but whomever recommended it - Thank You!

I am trying so, so hard to see this drama as independent from its (brilliant) predecessor because I want to like and enjoy it on its own merits.

But I don't know. I'm not sure about these actors in these lead roles, especially now that I know Kang Hoon is playing the SML.

@laurensophie: I hear you. Kang Hoon should be getting main lead roles given his talent, on-screen charm and range. In my view, AHS is no match for him but here we are.

This was shot immediately after TRS, so at that time he was still pretty unknown. Someday or One Day is popular in South Korea, so it's great that his agency (also one of the producers) can get him casted. His role is supposed to be sweet and very likeable. I could imagine lots of new fans after A Time Called You airs and hopefully he will get his first lead role.

However I’m still not convinced about Ahn Hyo-seop. I don’t think he has the range to portray two different persons.

Me four. I feel it even more when they are paired with male leads they outshine. I hope that doesn’t happen here because the pull of the male lead is what drives this story forward (or backwards in time I guess).

I’m sure there’s been a post on second leads we’d love to get their moment in the sun. But if not, it might be a good release.

Kang Hoon is the single greatest thing in this trailer! His 3 second trailer feature had more 'acting talent' than perhaps the entire career of Ahn Hyeseop. I'm looking forward to be proven wrong though, because SD1D happens to be in my top 10! <3

Yess.. surprise he is on Netflix right now. This is his usual drama genre.

I actually surprised he is joining the remake which will get compare with the original. More over I already watched the OG 🤕. Well. I hope this drama will does well so he will get offer job more often. It sadden me his last drama only get average 3-5 % rating despite the budget.

I might be the only person who wishes they don't stay loyal to the original. There were a few things that I didn't like and hope the Korean remake can find a way around them.

Same - although the main thing I didn’t like about the original was Alice Ke (I know, heresy) so this production is already way ahead on casting of the FL. No spoiler, but the way the original treated one particular character really bothered me, too.

This is heavy, but a good melodrama is welcome. And I echo the sentiments about the PD. I don't know how much of acting is required or the ml, but I'm thrilled about Jeon Yeo-bin's casting.
