News bites: August 8, 2023

  • In a gallery of new stills this week, we start with JTBC’s Destined With You, bringing together leads Kim Ro-woon (Tomorrow) and Jo Boa (Military Prosecutor Doberman) as they set out to break a centuries-old family curse. Also starring Ha Joon (Missing: The Other Side 2) and Yura (Forecasting Love and Weather), the fantasy rom-com premieres on August 23 this month, following Miraculous Brothers in the Wednesday-Thursday slot. • Over on SBS, it’s time to cast our ballots for their next crime-thriller The Killing Vote and the new group poster showcases the main cast, led by Park Sung-woong (Bloodhounds), Im Ji-yeon (Lies Hidden in My Garden), and Park Hae-jin (Showtime Begins). Launching in just two days on August 10, production is led by PD Park Shin-woo (Trap) with writing by Jo Yoon-young (Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo). [News1]

  • Lee Jong-won (The Golden Spoon) is considering an offer to become Shin Mina’s (Our Blues) fake husband in the new rom-com Because I Want No Loss (roughly translated). Still in the planning stages, writer Kim Hye-young (Her Private Life) is penning the scripts. In the meantime, Lee is currently busy filming for MBC’s upcoming comedy sageuk Flower That Blooms at Night. [Star News]
  • Netflix announced that Hellbound 2 is now in production, showcasing the talented cast at the sequel’s first script reading. Reprising their roles, the new season brings back Kim Hyun-joo (Trolley), Yang Ik-joon (Bad Guys: City of Evil), and the hot-in-demand Kim Shin-rok (Shadow Detective 2), while Kim Sung-chul (Our Beloved Summer) takes over for Yoo Ah-in (Chicago Typewriter). Production remains in the hands of filmmaker Yeon Sang-ho (Monstrous, Train to Busan), with Choi Kyu-seok co-writing. [SpoTV News]

  • A new batch of stills have dropped for TVING’s upcoming Cold Blooded Intern, which stars a fierce lady duo with Ra Mi-ran (The Good Bad Mother) and Eom Ji-won (Little Women). Premiering this week on August 11, the office comedy is written by Park Yeon-kyung (The Sound of Your Heart Reboot) with directing helmed by PD Han Sang-jae (You Who Forgot Poetry, Rude Miss Young-ae). • JTBC’s Behind Your Touch is also approaching just around the corner and we get another look at our wacky cast in the latest stills, including Han Ji-min (Yonder) and Lee Min-ki (My Liberation Notes). Coming to our screens on August 12 in the weekend slot, we can also expect a special guest appearance from Lee Jung-eun (Missing: The Other Side 2), who worked with both Han and the production team on The Light in Your Eyes. I mean, I’m not saying it’s gonna be good, but I guess I’m here to stand up for Behind Your Touch…given last place here. I don’t know if I’ve ever been so excited to see a drama listed over there to the right in “Currently Airing”…and then, OMO, at the footer with its own RIDICULOUS image.

Shouldn't you be seated instead?

I have to admit I'm getting terrible vibes from every one of the promos, but I'll start episode 1 of anything for LMK.

Thank you Elinor for your love for LMK. ☺️ I am hoping the team will work their magics and somehow pull this off.

In what world does Lee Jong-won look like he should play Shin Mina’s husband?

I've heard it's YET ANOTHER webtoon adaptation and it was a noona romance originally too, so...

If it was written as a noona romance, then this pairing makes sense. It's just always a little jarring when an actor is playing a high schooler one minute and is paired off with a 39 year old the next. With the right story I'm still interested.

Oh, actors looking nothing like teens yet still playing their high school selves is such a cringe))) Give rising young actors more jobs ffs!

Yup, I was hoping he wasn't the lead.

I was coming to this exactly. Lee Jong-won as Shin Mina's fake husband...? Fake or not, this pairing should not go beyond the planning room talk less of script reading, light, camera and action.

So many new shows starting/so little time to watch them. I am catching up on ones started by dumb D+ and finally on Hulu and it is putting me behind. Wish I had had them when time was more on my side! Seriously, I am grateful to be able to watch them at all!

Of the dramas in this list that are dropping soon, I'm really only looking forward to Destined with You and The Killing Vote (at the moment). But honestly I'm pretty relieved at that ratio because the pace has been wild lately, at least for me. It might be nice to have a chance to catch up!

Curious, how does Shin Mina’s character settle on Lee Jong-won as a fake husband ? 😬

Fake spouse trope ? Results may vary

One of the better ones is J drama Nigeru wa Haji da ga Yaku ni Tatsu / We Married As A Job

Very cute OTP , Aragaki Yui & Hashimoto Gen . The OTP married IRL after the show.

Oh, Lee Min Ki’s drama? I will check it out.
Anything from the writer of Scarlet Heart Ryo is hard pass for me, I am still traumatized by creation of BB cream, IU being annoyingly stupid and Lee Jin Ki and his scar, but it introduced me to the original, which was very long, so I have not finished it, but it was really good, heroine was such a smart lady in navigating the world absolutely new to her, original was and is much more superior, writer butchered it trying to make it flashy and over dramatic
