This is a drama of two halves; light and dark. The light consists of a sweet romance between the leads with fantasy element of woman learning to appreciate the nuances of communication. Football fans of rival English teams results in some fun and games when they play against each other. Second leads that learn to get over themselves well before the end of the drama, a nice jazz bar Ajusshi, a fan who gets close encounters with his idol and co workers who care about the female lead.

The dark half of the drama is where they focus on a murder; there is an amateur detectives element which lifts the mood slightly but the corruption, the guilt by association, the vigilante hunt for justice by the press and the victim’s brother and the multiple plausible murderers was quite sad and added to the unpleasant dark elements. The sub plots with annoying townsfolk, both leads uncaring mothers and the absent fathers, corruption and hidden stories all felt unnecessary in what would have been a light fantasy romance with the standard thriller elements to ensure the audience stays engaged and the leads have a reason to grow closer. PPL ad breaks were either funny or pulled me out of the drama with their ridiculousness.

I gave it 8 stars because on the whole it was heading in the right direction to be my kind of drama. Would have been great as a 12 episode drama as most of the padding side plots would have been eliminated.

I agree with Mother Bean’s comment objectively. Below is, however, my subjective comment.

I love the OTP.
I love that they both help one another to become happier, healthier, the better version of themselves. The FL learns more about herself and her ability, and the ML learns to stand up for himself and graciously goes through and overcomes his trauma.

Every scene they are in together is such a happy scene. Looking at them both being like this, one can only wonder if there is a chance they can become a thing irl.

Now, there is so much that is left desired. Besides the OTP and the main mystery plot, almost all the subplots were sadly unnecessary. Some even did harm to the whole show. Whereas the cinematography is top-notch, directing isn’t. It is especially evident in the last two eps when they needed to wrap up every storyline, big and small.

Overall, I loved the OTP a lot and the watching experience here on DB has been one good watching and memorable experience for me. So I’d say if you care a lot and like the OTP when they are together a lot, you might be able to enjoy the show regardless of strange and unnecessary other things or characters. This show gives us one of the best, if not the best, supportive, best friend-like, trusting, and smitten OTP in Kdramaland.

Imo, this drama needed better script and editing. Maybe that's why I really never connected with the plot or the characters.
Maybe with more comic situations, less characters, less dark plot, and less episodes it would have been better.

Hmmm, what to say? I want to be accurate and objective. I think a theme of this drama is obsession or difficulities with letting go. That probably sounds really heavy and dark but I think that kinda encapsulate alot of the characters to varying degrees. Misunderstandings was also a big part.

I think the characters are probably endearing to some and not to others. The supporting cast, as in the other small business owners, don't bring much to the drama overall. I think the sole purpose of them is just to expand the lead characters' social circle who don't know them or benefit from or is reliant on them.

I think the premise is unique in that I don't think there's any other dramas with a character with a power/ability like hers but it's still kinda meh in execution, particularly later on.

I think the show was considered a success based on the leads particularly the female lead.

Oh that might be spoiler. Do you think you can explain this to me somewhere else. I’d really appreciate that.

This show was a mixed bag but the part I enjoyed, I really enjoyed. I though it had really interesting things to say about trust and truth, and when it focused on that, it was really great for me. I thought the OTP was pretty adorable (Hwang Min-hyun’s acting really bothered some people but I thought he did mostly fine except for one scene toward the end), some of the side characters were great, and the SML was cute and unannoying (and really, what else can you hope for in a SML?).

I loved the journey that our FL goes on, from distrusting absolutely everyone into understanding why people lie sometimes and that it doesn’t always have to be a bad thing. She gains so much agency over her power over the course of the episodes and I found that rewarding to watch. I also really liked the ML’s arc of opening himself up to the world again and reconnecting with what he loved to do. The fact that he never lied was incredibly endearing, and honestly really brave, and they used it to great effect in this drama. And I liked them together: shy soccer fans who start living next door to each other is a great situation, and they kdrama-ed the heck out of it.

I also didn’t mind the mystery at all. It is a part of the story from the very beginning, not thrown in at the last minute, and it provides a lot of important pushes to move the plot along and force our characters into situations where they grow and learn. I did NOT appreciate how it was wrapped up, who the culprit turns out to be, and why the incident happened in the first place, and I think this was honestly a pretty glaring misstep that kept me from enjoying the drama as much as I wanted to. No sugar-coating it: it’s a real shame, and it left a bad taste in my mouth.

The neighborhood side characters were not super annoying to me (though they were to some people so be warned) and a few of them were really great. There was never enough of the Jazz Club Ajusshi for me, and I enjoyed all the interactions of the Tarot Cafe’s employees. On the other hand, the moms in this drama are terrible, and FL’s mom in particular gets a last-minute redemption arc that she in no way deserves. SFL starts out as a nice but needy character, becomes completely unwell and obsessive, and then kind of goes back to her original persona by the end. Her story isn’t handled super well, but I mostly felt bad for her instead of hating her.

Parts of this drama were so fun and cute, so for me it was a bummer that it was dragged down by a lot of side characters in desperate need of therapy, and a terrible ending to the mystery. But the exploration of trust was great, the OTP was great, and of course Jazz Club Ajusshi was great.
