Premiere Watch: The Kidnapping Day

Time slot: Wednesday-Thursday
Broadcaster: ENA
Genre: Black comedy, human, thriller, mystery
Episode count: 12

Reasons to watch: Also going by slightly shorter title The Day, this drama promises to bring heart and humor to its otherwise darkish tale of kidnapping. Yoon Kye-sang plays our kidnapper in question — reason enough to watch — and what he does out of financial desperation to help his own child turns into a bit of a mess. The girl he’s “kidnapped” is played by rising child actress Yoo-na, and she’s so precocious and level-headed (contrasting to his sweet dimness) that she’s soon the one in charge. It sounds like the perfect dynamic for a show that can keep you in suspense and squeeze in laughs (and maybe tears too?), and with the director of Kingdom, Love Alarm 2, and A Model Family at the helm, this should be a good one. We can also look forward to workaholics Park Sung-hoon and Kim Shin-rok in the drama as well.

TL;DR: Yoon Kye-sang is a reluctant kidnapper who gets in over his head

This looks interesting. But no mention of it in Viki US.

I think it’s supposed to be in Prime in the USA. But I don’t see it yet.

Please, Prime, don't give it a weird name that will take forever to find...

I have never been successful in finding a prime show on air date. Someone usually has to give me a link. Will wait for another day to see if it shows up.

I share your pain, and it is one reason I dropped prime.

Yes! And I hate how I can't seem to browse what Kdrama's they carry. I usually just happen upon them accidentally. I'm really only paying for prime for the shipping benefits, the prime video and other stuff are just added bonuses. I would never pay just for prime video.

I have found that searching by the lead actors names is the easiest way to find them on prime... and not until at least few hours after the first episode airs in Korea.

Why'd ya pick that name, of all names, huh, @elinor ?? 왜왜왜?? 😜

Yes, it's going to be on Prime in the US (and everywhere else except Korea and China). The trailer is up on their YouTube channel, but shows typically don't appear in their search function until they're actually available to stream .

The plot and characters sound unoriginal, but this cast could probably make a game of tic-tac-toe gripping.

im getting Leon vibes but I suppose without the cruelty if it is black comedy

I also thought of Léon and also the movie "Voice of Silence". But neither of those were comedies, so this can be new and interesting.

I just hope the ending is NOTHING like Sympathy for Mr Vengeance. It's been years but I'm still recovering from that movie.

I really liked episode 1!!! I did not know it was going to be partially a comedy so that was a pleasant surprise. I love Yoon Kye-sang’s character already and his interactions with the hilarious kid he “kidnaps”. Looking forward to seeing more of this! And seeing Park Sung-hoon!

Not as of episode 1 - although there are some clouds on the horizon at the end of that.

Episode 2 is more serious but there is still comedy woven into it.
