Suzy and Yang Se-jong’s cohabitation campus romance in Doona

With an atmospheric teaser and dreamy character posters, Netflix’s upcoming romance Doona! gives us a glimpse into the whirlwind romance between our youthful leads. Starring Suzy (Anna) as the titular Lee Doona, the drama also marks Yang Se-jong’s first post-military project since his impressive performance in My Country.

Once the beloved main vocal of a K-pop idol group, Doona has since retired from the public eye. Now, she lives a humble life as an ordinary college student majoring in theatre and film. We see her through the eyes of fellow student Lee Won-joon (Yang Se-jong), who’s instantly smitten at first glance. It’s easy to see why — Doona may have stepped down from the stage, but her star power hasn’t faded one bit. As she basks in the warm glow of the morning sun, Doona’s radiance stuns Won-joon speechless.

Drawn into each other’s orbit by virtue of being residents in the same sharehouse, Doona and Won-joon soon hit it off. “Let’s be friends,” Doona says, but she’s crossing that boundary before long. With her alluring gaze and coy demeanor, Doona knows just how to wind Won-joon up. Snuggling into his lap, holding his hand while she naps, and stepping right up into his personal space, Doona soon has a flustered Won-joon wrapped around her little finger.

“You’re so adorable,” Doona coos, tiptoeing to capture Won-joon’s lips offscreen. Her flirtatious interest in Won-joon is clear as day, but she isn’t the only one. Won-joon is plenty fascinated by her, too. Intrigued by her capricious nature, Won-joon is curious as to what makes her tick. Doona won’t make it easy for him, though. “I’m telling you this just in case,” she teases, “but don’t fall for me, okay?” Yet Doona’s actions say otherwise — even as she’s warning Won-joon away from her, she’s pulling him in for a kiss.

Directed by Lee Jung-hyo (Crash Landing on You) with scripts penned by Jang Yoo-ha, the webtoon adaptation Doona! will be released via Netflix on October 20.

This has been on Netflix's "Coming Eventually Don't Rush Us!" list for sooo long. For some reason I got the impression it was an old drama. Maybe the hair?

The hime cut is in again, partially because of Suzy’s influence, I think!

Don't see a contradiction here - perhaps she's just into casual flings as opposed to serious romance thus "don't fall for me" warning? I mean, it IS Netflix original show... Anyways, plot looks paper-thin so far - this screams "self-insert college AU fanfic" written by a nerdy male fan who had an interesting vivid dream about his girl group bias and himself becoming a campus couple. No disrespect here, everyone has rights to be hornydream, but making a whole drama out of it? Webtoon was already pushing it imo. Or there is an ACTUAL story in there that promos are doing their very best hiding from us for some reason?

ROFL! I cannot agree more and I love Yang Se-jong but... This looks like Nevertheless role reversal edition.

Exactly, and the fact that they casted not just any pretty actress for FL, but a real-life former top idol, one of "nation's first loves"... Impressive level of fanservice, I'll give drama that.

You bet! But can't feeling bad as I was hoping to se Yang se jong in a better romance! I LOVED him in 30 but 17 (and we had one of the cutest SML there but he was still the one I rooted for)

Don't think I've ever finished a show of his... I'm sure I tried one or two, but dropped early on. So idk. Was he in many bad romances before? Funnily bad or just bad?

1

@gikata I have seen him in only two shows. 30 but 17 and "Temperature of love". I dropped the temperature of love is spite of excellent cast. But he can pull romance scenes well.

2

That's good since I don't recall Suzy being all that mind blowing in such scenes... Perhaps I'm just under-informed. Hmm.

1

@gikata I do not remember Suzy being mind blowing in the couple of shows I have seen her but after watching Park Shin Hye in "romantic scenes", I guess Suzy was okay for me.

2

I haven't read the webcomic, but some people who have on Reddit said that the ending is pretty disappointing and they hope the drama changes it. That makes me hesitant to watch it (although, I should probably consider, when have dramas based on comics NOT changed the ending?)

What, they don't stay together forever and the story just ends there with no proper cathartic conclusion, leaving audience to wonder what the hell was even the point of all that then? How shocking!)))

Given kdramas record of messed up endings even for stories that had solid ones in source material, I wouldn't get my hopes very high. Just in case.

Hum... I hope the writing will make be like the FL because with the few glimpses we got, it wasn't the case...

It's a short drama and there is Yang Se-Jong, so it won't be a too big waste of time, if it's not good :p

Maybe Suzy is trying to keep herself busy so she doesn't have to do a Vagabond sequel?

I actually enjoyed Vagabond in a "so bad it's hilarious" kind of way. Like a 90's Western action movie.

The amount of people still begging for a Vagabond sequel astounds me. I forget it even exists!

IKR?
I get it that a cast of Lee Seung-gi, Bae Suzy, Shin Sung-rok in any drama would be exciting on paper ... but people have you actually seen "Vagabond" ... chincha... and you want a sequel...!!??

🤦‍♀️

Yes, I loved Vagabond. Nothing made sense and it was really badly written, but it was so much fun. I laughed so hard at the absurdity, the fact that there hasn't been a season 2 genuinely makes me sad.

Well then, with such loyal audience let's hope the drama gods take notice.

These are the most extraordinarily good-looking ordinary college kids, but hey, it is a kdrama. I am not familiar with the source material, so I am curious if there is some kind of conflict to move the plot. I'll take a juicy scandal, a jealous ex, or a dark secret from the past, but please no serial killers or terminal illness.

I’ll watch almost anything for Yang Sejong. I loved My Country, but why is he being paired with all the former idols??? 😂

Long time no see, Se Jong oppa!
I like the cast, that's enough for me. I'm definitely watching it.

PS. Is uri Suzy only starring on dramas with her (character) name as the title? LOL I guess that's a good strategy to get people to remember your roles and projects without effort.

I'll consider it a proper K-drama if Suzy (Doona) has women friends, relatives, confidants and colleagues. If she's functionally the only woman in the series then I'll class it as a 'Netflix' drama.

The choice of putting so much dialogue on the posters is… interesting. I feel like it tells too much about their relationship and lessens my curiosity lol.

I am not sure where I am on this one. On one hand, it is Yang se jong. And I do not dislike Suzy. I do not like her either. I watch her shows based on my reaction to each character. I watched "While you were sleeping" and could not watch "Start up". So will wait on this one.
