News bites: October 17, 2023

  • Bringing in a new bundle of posters to plaster our walls anew, our Castaway Diva, Park Eun-bin (Extraordinary Attorney Woo), will soon be returning to civilization and coming to our screens on October 28. Also starring Kim Hyo-jin (The Good Detective 2), Chae Jong-hyeop (Unlock the Boss), Cha Hak-yeon (Joseon Attorney), and Kim Joo-hun (Romantic Doctor Teacher Kim 3), the heartwarming series will be airing in tvN’s weekend slot. [MBC]

  • In contrast, Disney+ has prepared a darker tale and the newest poster showcases Nam Joo-hyuk (Twenty Five Twenty One) as our rogue hero in Vigilante. Taking justice straight to the streets, he’ll be crossing paths with Yoo Ji-tae (Money Heist: Korea – Joint Economic Area), Lee Jun-hyuk (Dark Hole), and Kim So-jin (Through the Darkness) as well. The crime-action releases on November 8. [MBC]

  • Also coming in November is ENA’s new melodrama Tell Me You Love Me, headlined by Jung Woo-sung (Fly Dragon) and Shin Hyun-bin (Reborn Rich). Based on the similarly titled Japanese drama from 1995, production for the Korean remake has PD Kim Yoon-jin (Our Beloved Summer) at the helm with writing by Kim Min-jung (The Sound of Magic). [News1]
  • KBS announced that the romance sageuk Fantasy Sonata has been slotted on the schedule, with Park Ji-hoon (Weak Hero Class 1) and rookie Hong Ye-ji (2037) leading the cast. Written by Yoon Kyung-ah (Oh! Samkwang Villa) with PD Lee Jung-seob (Dal-li and Gamjatang) attached to direct, the webtoon adaptation will be airing this coming January 2024. [News1]

  • A cute poster has dropped for MBC’s The Story of Park’s Marriage Contract, featuring our time-crossed wedded pair Lee Se-young (The Law Cafe) and Bae In-hyuk (Cheer Up). The fantasy romance will be launching next month in November, along with Joo Hyun-young (Behind Every Star) and Yoo Seon-ho (Under the Queen’s Umbrella). [MBC]
  • ENA released a poster for Moon in the Day as well, where tragedy surrounds our fated two leads, Kim Young-dae (The Forbidden Marriage) and Pyo Ye-jin (Taxi Driver 2). Premiering in just a few weeks on November 1, the fantasy follows The Kidnapping Day in the Wednesday-Thursday slot. [10 Asia]

OK, Castaway Diva please, please be good. We have an exciting critical mass of Beanies who are going to give you a try and it would be so thrilling to have a big group watch as the weather moves fully into
Autumn in the Northern Hemisphere and Spring in the Southern Hemisphere!

Second, I know Yoo Ji-tae is listed in proper DB fashion according to his last drama, but I think that I’d like to start a Beanie petition to have him listed forever more (?) either as Yoo Ji-tae (Mad Dog—for the current MD crew—KAAANG!!!]), or probably more popular for everyone: Yoo Ji-tae (Healer). Any chance of a change, @tccolb?

Castaway Diva!! I am trusting PEB's script choices, that woman can choose... Plus also, she can do justice to her choice.
Im thinking I should start Mad Dog, @attiton.

Well, you know how enjoyable Community Fan Wall Watches are--but I gotta say, for me, my Mad Dog sessions lean heavy on the FF-button except when our main couple is interacting...so I wouldn't call it a real attention-getter through and through. I wanna pitch this right :)

Join in, though! Even if you're behind some episodes, we're all still around and engaged (obviously), so you can just start commenting wherever you are!

I love the northern hemisphere Falls but I know some parts get a harsh winter as well so it will be tough. Let’s hope we will have fun dramas to distract us and make you feel warm during those cold months.

Well, for better or for worse, the winters used to be REAL rough, if you know what I mean, in certain places. In many formerly snowy parts of the US, though, we get very little snow at all these days...the climate, it is a-changing.

I hear ya. Is there anything which isn’t frightening now?

I've got faith in Park Sun-bin's drama choices.

1. I am SO excited for this, especially after learning that Lee Re will be playing the young version of Park Eun-bin's character! Give this to me NOW!

2. Not very interested in this one at all, but I'll probably take a peek at the first episode if just for the cast.

3. I always find it interesting when remakes of dramas that are quite old are made. I haven't seen the original in question, but I'll be curious to see how much the Korean version changes. That said, I'm not super impressed with Shin Hyun-bin as an actress...

4. I sometimes sit and look at casting news and bemoan how so many of the younger generation of actors just don't seem to have that "it" factor in their performances that the previous generations did (with some notable exceptions), so I'm always eager to check out new talent.

5. Will definitely be seated for this! Praise the drama gods for finally giving us a heroine who travels to the future and not the past! Bae In-hyuk didn't do much for me in Cheer Up, but Lee Se-young is such a veteran that it honestly doesn't matter who she's paired against.

6. Yeah, I think this one will be a skip for me...

I so agree with you about so few having the “it” factor in younger actor groups. I can’t remember hardly anyone as so few stand out. It seems people are mostly picked for short term profitability—idol crossovers, momentarily online trenders and beauty — but those factors don’t often equal a lot of drama charisma or acting skill.

I think Park Ji Hoon is a very good actor, so I'll watch almost everything he is in. That includes Fantasy Sonata :)

#4. I'm with you guys. The previous generations of young actors set the standard high. Park Eun-bin and Le Se-young are from that generation.
Ahn Eun-jin is becoming a favorite, and as a theatre actress, I had high expectations, and she delivered.

i wonder if that is the difference working in theatre requires a certain skill set and is tough, no second takes.

Acting in theater is by default very high key, even a whisper or sigh needs to be heard clearly by the audience in the last row.

WOW the posters for Castaway Diva are beautiful!!!

Fantasy Sonata is a big "hmmm" from me, but - although I keep forgetting about it - The Story of Park's Marriage Contract looks like the kind of fusion drama I really enjoy. Hopefully it's fun and satisfying (ditto for Castaway Diva!)!

My favorite poster above is the one for The Story of Park's Marriage Contract.

TSPMC will be the abbreviation I will start using since the title is too long! Unless someone has a better idea...

Kim Yoon-jin - I would love to see another work from this guy. He is different and very talented. But I am not so sure of the cast.

Castaway Diva, Tell me that you love me and potentially Park’s Marriage Contract all look like they have potential lets see if they live up to it. Tell me that you love me was well loved when it was released I wonder how the remake will compare to the original.

1) I love the colors for this drama!

2) I will try this one, hoping there won't be too much violence.

3) I'm still wondering how Shin Hyun-Bin is paired with so many good actors when she's so boring on screen...

4) I'm one of the rare ones who didn't specially like Weak Hero Class 1 and who didn't understand why it had so much success when it was just pure violence again... But Park Ji-hoon won awards for this drama, so I'm surprised he doesn't come back in a bigger drama.

5) I like both actors. Lee Se-Young needs a drama when she's the focus and not her male lead. I hoped it would be the case in Red Sleeve with this title but sadly it wasn't.

6) The more I see, the more doubts I have. I'm not convinced that both actors can deliver this angsty love story...

4. Fantasy Sonata is a drama from KBS2, a public station. For an actor in South Korea, a starring role in a drama on this type of network is better for his career than a platform because of the domestic audience.

I'm most looking forward to "Vigilante" (reminds me of years of watching the American series "Arrow"), "Fantasy Sonata" (an assassin and her enemy). I hope that "Moon in the Day" will be a pleasant surprise, because ENA has been making good dramas lately.

I'm definitely watching (at least I'll give a chance) The Story of Park's Marriage Contract, Castaway Diva and Fantasy Sonata. The leads in all of them are some of my favorite actors.

During her visit to Seoul, uri Beanie @welh640 walked into the sets of and became a K-drama star in Tell Me You Love Me. 👏 Please give your love to this drama.

I'm interested in Vigilante because of Yoo Ji-tae. In how many dramas has he played the senior ML - Healer, Mad Dog, Money Heist.

The Story of Park’s Marriage Contract and Moon in the Day feel like Ying Yang. ☯️ Lead in future forward.

This poster of Moon makes me excited ... is having the firefighting FL as his personal body guard like a contract-ish marriage?

1. So unbelievably excited for this. Park Eun-bin can literally do no wrong in my eyes. Even if the drama doesn't turn out great, I know she'll still put on the performance of a lifetime.

2. I've had my eye on this show for a while now because the cast intrigued me, but I am not a fan of that poster... at all. It's giving off edgy YA dystopian energy and that's absolutely not what I want from my gritty vigilante dramas.

3. I hope Shin Hyun-bin channels more of her Reflection of You era rather than her Reborn Rich era because OOF her acting in the latter was ROUGH.

4. Not very familiar with either of the leads so I'm gonna have to hear more to pique my interest.

5. I can't believe I have to wait a whole month to have Lee Se-young on my screens again. This is so unfair.

6. Still not convinced these two can carry a full-on tragic melodrama.

Jdrama adapted into kdrama? Usually it's the other way around. the reviews for the original seem very negative so I'll try the Korean version if they improve upon the FL's character.

"Fantasy Sonata" sounds interesting, if somewhat similar to "Moon in the Day", which I'm still cautiously hyped for. lots of enemies to lovers stories on the way, huh?

ugh, Lee Se-young looks so cute 🥺🥺
