Park Eun-bin shines on stage as a Castaway Diva

After persevering through scorching days and lonely nights on no-man’s land, it’s finally time for our long-lost heroine to step into the spotlight. Another teaser for tvN’s upcoming drama Castaway Diva has washed ashore, showcasing our aspiring singer on the stage she’s always dreamt of.

Played by Park Eun-bin (Extraordinary Attorney Woo), the resilient Seo Mok-ha wants nothing more than to become a singer. Unfortunately for her, a runaway attempt gone wrong ends with her trapped on a deserted island, with only the ocean’s waves to answer her cries for help. Still, she resolves to survive, clinging onto the strength and hope that her favorite song brings her.

When Mok-ha is finally rescued fifteen years later, she gets to meet her number one idol — the singer Yoon Ran-joo, played by Kim Hyo-jin (The Good Detective 2). Ran-joo’s fame may have faded, but she doesn’t hesitate to take Mok-ha under her wing, offering her both a place to stay and a chance to realize her dream.

It may be an uphill battle for Mok-ha, but thankfully she has Ran-joo’s steady faith in her, as well as the enthusiastic support of two brothers who may or may not have puppy crushes on her. Variety PD Kang Bo-geol — played by Chae Jong-hyeop (Unlock the Boss) — may be a little bit of a tsundere, but there’s fondness in his gaze when he’s with Mok-ha. Not to be outdone is his adorably bespectacled brother Kang Woo-hak, played by Cha Hak-yeon (Joseon Attorney), who’s over the moon with elation when Mok-ha receives a rousing applause.

Our unconventional star may be comfortable holding a microphone, but she’s still a fish-out-of-water that has to adapt to an unfamiliar society. Not only is her Korean intonation stilted from disuse, but she also had no need for etiquette and social niceties when her only companions were seagulls and the occasional crab. Mok-ha may be childlike and clumsy, but it certainly adds to her charm — and I don’t doubt that her optimism and fighting spirit will keep her afloat through adversity. “Let’s make a miracle,” Mok-ha declares, beaming radiantly amidst a shower of confetti.

Helmed by PD Oh Chung-hwan and writer Park Hye-ryun — who previously collaborated on While You Were Sleeping and Start Up — alongside writer Eun Yeol, Castaway Diva premieres on October 28.

So glad it’s only a couple of weeks to wait now I have missed Chae Jonghyeop’s smile. The trailers have all focused on the female lead but I am hoping we get to see more of the others before the show drops.

Do we know which one is the male lead versus the 2ML? I like to know going in who's probably gonna end up with whom.

By K-drama convention I would go with Chae Jong-hyeop as the male lead, since he's the higher billed of the two and seems to be more consistently cast as a leading man lately.

Thanks! That would make sense based on what we've seen so far of the promos, and also just the fact that he's the tsundere character.

I can't wait for this and I hope it's as fun and heartwarming as it seems! I really liked Chae Jong-hyeop as Potato Boy in Nevertheless (one of the very few things I liked about the show...) and am eager to see him alongside the always-fabulous Park Eun-bin!

And N looks so good with those glasses!

I think fruit and room temperature water are a given PPL in any drama.

First let me correct myself, I meant DWY, what the heck is DTW? Anyway 🤦🏼‍♀️ there they made a pretty big deal of where the grapes had come from and the province, carrying on about their deliciousness. It kinda stuck out as much as a Tiffany Blue box! So I await w interest to see if the Diva grapes get a similar introduction! 😆

Those grapes looked so good in contrast to most food which I see in KDs. I like green grapes that are sourish and it is rare that I come across bunches that are ripe but taste like that.

We should shop together and then swap our purchases so I could take those sweet ones of your hands and willingly give you the sour grapes I often end up with.

Someone’s gotta say it: I wish our lead potato boy didn’t have an early 2000s perm here. Come at me, folks. I’ll raise you my favorite smile, and you know I will. 👀😁👀

I commented on Park Eun-bin weathers a storm in Castaway Diva : Chae Jong-Hyeop should change his hair salon...

I don't know why someone thought it was a good haircut >_<

I’m not coming at you but…
It looks very cute on him. It is not Junho level bonkers as in “Just between Lovers” but in reality, I even liked Junho in his pre glow-up roles.

Heavy fringe in the front almost covering the eyes, fluffy ‘00 perm - All the boys seem to be sporting this look lately.

Not a fan. Just taking slow breaths and waiting for the trend to pass.

Kim Hyo-jin was really good in Good Detective, even if her character caused her downfall... I'm excited to watch her friendship with PEB's character. It's rare strong women friendship in Kdramas.

They didn't show any romance in the different promotions, so I'm curious about PEB and CJH's chemistry.

So I’m hoping the drama’s castaway phase is only in flashbacks as that premise is hyper-unrealistic and will become old fast. Other than that, as always I look forward to watching PEB and Potato boy in a drama, and hopefully, they will have great chemistry.

FL was stranded on a desert island when she was 16 years old? I think I read this information somewhere. She was alone on it for 15 years. Is a 16-year-old person childish? In today's world this is unlikely. Can a person who has survived alone for 15 years be immature and behave like a teenager? I do not think so. So why does another drama portray a woman around 30, who has gone through more in life than many people, as someone infantile, detached from reality. I do not like it. When I read the script of the drama, I was hoping for a different approach to such a character. Meanwhile, we have another Korean drama in which the main character is emotionally distressed at the level of a teenager, when being detached from society should make her mentally tougher, perhaps even cold towards people.
