I saw in a video that the writer/director wanted to make a show that felt nostalgic and youthful and I think they succeeded in that regard. Even if you've never experienced such relationships or situations (like being in a high school band), the feeling of having this optimistic, carefree moment in time is clearly displayed which can make one vicariously feel that.

I think the best part of the show was the relationships. The familial and platonic relationships especially with romance at the bottom. I think there's alot of elements that might be relatable to people especially miscommunication or lack of communication between parent and child.

I think the ending is left up to interpretation. From some it's satisfying, for others it's not, and then there are folks who are just so beaten down by drama endings of late that it's just like "ah well, that happened and at least no one died".

I think this show has a lot of heart, humor, and warmth as well as fun music. I think the show had really good casting especially for Eun Gyeol and Yi Chan. I liked the use of sign language. I think this drama is really charming and wholesome and somewhat underrated.

Totally agree! It started out a fun little drama then blossomed into a heartfelt story with great retro music and true friendships and yes, I loved the sign language. I even learned how to sign VIva La Vida from it!

The show has many flaws but a big beautiful heart.

This isn't s good time travel story, and it isn't a family drama. It's a show about youth. If you focus on that I think you'll love it. The characters and their relationships are lovely.

I think it's a show to focus on the feels, the twinkling youth. It's better to not overthink it.. maybe it's better to not think at all.

Don't think, feel! 🍉✨

Perfect review! 👌
No better time to channel Yoo Chan, another twinkly personality with his group of friends.

A gem of a drama!! Beautifully written and directed, has a lot of incredibly heartwarming themes and performances to match 💕 You'll find yourself crying and laughing (or sometimes crying and laughing) and will leave with a smile on your face and a good dose of nostalgia about life, family and growing up.

One thing I'd advise is to be prepared to gloss over the plot 'logic' (especially to do with the time travel aspect) because it gets a bit wonky and leaves you with questions, but heart of the show makes up for, if not completely overshadows in my experience, the narrative technicalities.

Absolutely would recommend, and will actively be recommending to everyone and anyone I know 😂

This show is an utter delight, and like most of Jin Soo Wan's other dramas, it's a show whose conceits, including the time travel element, operate metaphorically, rather than literally. It explores how joy and art can flourish even in the midst of suffering, and its happy moments shine so brightly because they're set against a clear-eyed understanding of life's horrors. Hands down my favorite show of the year so far.

You will cry your heart out and get puffy eyes yet you will also laugh out loud and shout "Viva La Vida." But trust me, you will regret it a lot if you miss out on than gem.

This is the kind of drama that I enjoy watching because it makes me feel good most of the time. The story revolves around one family and the people who are important to them at key stages of their lives. There are sad bits and elements of cruelty but on the whole it is about the joy and energy of teenage adventures.

It's a drama that I can recommend to almost anyone - whether they're kdrama fans or not. Whether they're fans of only certain genres. Unless you have as severe allergy to the 90s or to teenagers, just watch it.

Even if you have an allergy to time-travel and fantasy, the drama isn't too focused on that. The time-travel, fantastical nature of it is just to set the characters in a place and time. It's all about the feels. The drama is about the kids in their second last year of high school, living out their youth to the fullest right before they have to focus on the future and prepare for adulthood.

It's got heart and humor and some really punch-in-the-gut emotional moments. And great music. I think it lives up to the title - Twinkling Watermelon. The characters sparkle and the interactions are refreshing in that cute teenage optimism sort of way. The 4 wonderful leads are accompanied by a lot of great supporting characters too. Several of the actors had to deliver their performances completely in sign language, which is an impressive feat.

While everyone did incredible work, this drama has a Choi Hyun-wook performance that can't be missed.

I feel like I've had a desert lately in my drama watching, and so when this one came along, I was so glad. I almost didn't watch it because the title and promo material give it an entirely different expectation than the actual drama. Ie it's not a drama full of teen hijinks and wannabe idols. (Though there IS a band and there ARE plenty of humorous moments with high schoolers. Plus time travel!) Instead, when I think of this drama, the word "love" comes to mind. It's about all kinds of love. The love of a hearing son for his deaf family (even if he feels burdened at times by it). The love of a lot of people for music. The love of parents and grandparents, even when sometimes there are issues that have estranged them from their family members. The love of friends. Allowing yourself to love your own life instead of trying to live your life for someone else. Loving yourself. Falling in love.

The acting in it is fantastic. From the child who plays little Eun Gyeol to the adult dad to teen Eun Gyeol and his parents...just all of them. I like acting in which the actor has you know, facial expressions, and with some characters not speaking due to the deafness, the facial expressions were particularly important.

To me, it's one of the best dramas of the year.

I came to this show late and was able to binge which was a good way to watch. Overall I felt like the story had a lot of heart. The time traveling logic and how it was able to change the future is a bit confusing/illogical. However if you let that go, then it's mostly a story about healing/growth/perseverance.

When the ML goes back in time his goal is just to save his parents but in the process he learns to live his own life and not always sacrificing for his family. In the end he is only really able to change his mom's relationship with her father, but ultimately fate dictated the eventuality of the rest. For the FL she had to go back in time to understand her parents better and also find her love for music again.
