News bites: November 16, 2023

Ahn Bo-hyun, Park Ji-hyun

  • SBS announced that their new year lineup will be kicking off with Chaebol x Detective, headlined by Ahn Bo-hyun (See You in My 19th Life) and Park Ji-hyun (Reborn Rich). Slated to broadcast in January 2024, airing weekends, production is in the talented hands of PD Kim Jae-hong (Revenant, Through the Darkness) and writer Kim Ba-da (My Name). [News1]

  • In the meantime, Channel A has been preparing for their upcoming series Man and Woman, exploring love through the different lenses of our characters in an ensemble cast led by Donghae (Oh! Young-shim) and Lee Seol (D.P. 2). The romance is set to premiere next month in December, with PD Lee Yoo-yeon and PD Park Sang-min co-directing. [Newsen]
  • New stills from the first script reading have been released for KBS’s new romance sageuk Fantasy Sonata, which stars Park Ji-hoon (Weak Hero Class 1), Hong Ye-ji (2037), Hwang Hee (Tale of the Nine Tailed 1938), and Ji-woo (The First Responders 2) among others. The webtoon adaptation will be coming to our screens this January, with PD Lee Jung-seob (Dal-li and Gamjatang) at the helm and scripts by Yoon Kyung-ah (Oh! Samkwang Villa). [News1]

  • Go Hyun-jung (Masked Girl) is reviewing offers for her next project and is currently in talks to star as a convicted serial killer in The Mantis. If she accepts, Go will be playing the title character whose son is now a cop and needs her help in tracking down the new murderer that’s in town. Based on the 2017 French series La Mante, production for the crime-thriller is in the early stages. [Osen]
  • Tis the season for Ji Chang-wook (The Worst of Evil) – a wonderful season indeed – who may be adding another crime drama to his already busy plate. With Cha Eun-woo (A Good Day to Be a Dog) bowing out, Ji has been courted to take on the leading role in Bulk, potentially joining Jo Woo-jin (Narco-Saints) and Ha Yoon-kyung (See You in My 19th Life). The 8-episode series is aiming to begin filming later this month. [Osen]
  • Meanwhile, Song Kang (Forecasting Love and Weather) has been busy in fantasy land this season with SBS’s My Demon coming later this month, followed by Netflix’s Sweet Home 2 on December 1. In the latter, Song reprises his role alongside Lee Jin-wook (Welcome to Wedding Hell) and Lee Shi-young (Grid), who takes us through another horror-filled glimpse in the new season’s latest teaser. [Osen]
  • Over on MBC, the promos have taken off for Flower That Blooms at Night, featuring our main cast at the comedy-sageuk’s first script reading. Starring Honey Lee (One the Woman), Lee Jong-won (The Golden Spoon), Kim Sang-joong (The Banker), and Lee Ki-woo (Miraculous Brothers), the series premieres on January 12, broadcasting in the weekend slot following The Story of Park’s Marriage Contract. I love the supporting cast, too. Kim Sang-joong, Kim Mi-kyung, Seo Yi-sook etc.

Another set of uninspired titles - Chaebol x Detective, Man and Woman, and maybe include Bulk 😅

Another potential project for Ji Chang Wook. 🎉 hopefully its good!

I hate that I feel this way as it is ridiculous and irrational but PJH is still Seo Saei to me and I can’t get past that. One of these days, I will.

Park Ji-hyun is getting a lead role? A role that isn't the vengeful SFL, out to ruin the FSL's happiness. No way. Amazing.

I'll be honest, her acting and onscreen presence was the only worthwhile part of Reborn Rich. She had more chemistry with the ML than FL did too.

A role originally slated for Cha Eun-woo going (potentially) to Ji Chang-wook…hmm. I’m still thinking about that. Hmm. What kind of role could suit both of these men? This must be one flexible script, it seems to me!

Haha. A qn for the ages.
The lowest common denominator is that they are both easy on the eye (beauty is in the eye of the beholder and all that stuff).

My reaction exactly!
I had seen some news for a drama with both, but I much prefer this version.

I had the exact same thought! Especially with an almost ten year age gap

Ten year age difference, to begin with.

the first drama sounds like the Korean version of the Russian drama, Silver Spoon. if it's as funny and enjoyable as the latter, it will be worth watching. is the lady Reborn Rich playing ABH's boss?

Seems like that. The drama is also known as Gold Spoon so you may be right.

Now don't you dare shorten the name of FLOWER THAT BLOOMS AT NIGHT to Flower at Night or something like you did to its structurally poetic counter part MOON THAT RISES IN THE DAY, ok? We make fun of funny and long drama names but honestly I'm invested in these for the fact that they mirror each other and sound pretty and you made it worse so, don't do that. I still like to imagine they're completely different dramas, that compliment each other thematically though, lol.
Yes this is clearly the most important thing to take out if this news thread.

Can 1 at least be as fun as Good Job?

4 has me saying wow! to it's concept.
Now I can watch 5 without having to see a male lead utterly outperformed by his co-actors.

There are so many lovely and talented actors and actresses in Flower That Blooms at Night. I'll be watching this one.

I find him more sympathetic then Lee Seung cheon, Tae Yong wants to be loved , the other one is for the money and very selfish .
It annoyed me very much .
But is was a good story

As per the synopsis it did not appear that the role in Bulk suited Cha Eun-woo anyway. Ji Chang-wook definitely seems more apt to play a "fixer" who works with the "dark side", then teams up with Jo Woo-jin, a veteran police officer and Ha Yun-kyung, a prosecutor "to chase down criminals and expose social problems against the background of the night in Gangnam".

In what world is Ji Chang Wook a replacement for Cha Eun Woo? Even completely ignoring his acting abilities, they have nothing in common. Except being hot in demand at the moment?
