With two weddings to prepare – just a few centuries apart – the fantasy rom-com will be leading us down the aisle on November 24, along with co-stars  Joo Hyun-young (Behind Every Star) and Yoo Seon-ho (Under the Queen’s Umbrella). [MBC]

  • LG’s U+ Mobile TV released their first poster for the new mystery-horror Night Has Come, trapping a group of high school students in a murderous game of mafia. With an ensemble cast headlined by Lee Jae-in (Racket Boys), Kim Woo-seok (Finland Papa), and Choi Ye-bin (It’s Beautiful Now) among others, the thriller is slated to premiere on December 4. [Sports Kyunghyang]

  • Kim Dong-wook (My Perfect Stranger) confirmed casting for SBS’s Not Very Strong But Charming Violent Crimes Unit, joining Seo Hyun-woo (Celebrity), Park Ji-hwan (My Lovely Boxer), and Park Se-wan (One Day Off) in the lineup. The crime-comedy is planning to broadcast early next year, with PD Ahn Jong-yeon at the helm and scripts by Lee Young-chul. [News1]
  • A new office comedy called Trigger (working title) is also in the works and Jung Sung-il (The Glory) has reportedly been signed on, while an offer is still out for Kim Hye-soo (Under the Queen’s Umbrella) to play the leading role. Production is still in the early stages with PD Yoo Sun-dong (The Uncanny Counter 2: Counter Punch) attached to direct. [Star News]

  • Shadowy new stills have dropped for TVING’s upcoming Death’s Game, this time showcasing Park So-dam (Record of Youth) as our story’s mysterious and powerful Death. Taking us through the tribulations of Seo In-gook (Cafe Minamdang) over 12 different lives – and faces – the fantasy will be coming to our screens in December. [News1]
  • In contrast, JTBC greets us with sunny blue skies, taking us across the beautiful Jeju Island in Welcome to Samdalri. With Ji Chang-wook (The Worst of Evil) and Shin Hye-sun (See You in My 19th Life) as our friends-to-lovers hosts, the rom-com premieres on December 2, following Strong Girl Nam-soon in the weekend slot. I don’t want to be suspicious of that amazingly cute poster for Welcome to Samdalri…but I totally am. I feel that this promotional material just trying to suck me in to bleed me dry.

Someone talk me out of that position.

Well, the screen writer has 3 other credits , one of which is Go Back Couple (2017) 🥰

His other two score in the 8’s at MDL fwiw
I did notice that Kim Mi Kyung is in all 4 of his dramas.
Sounds worth checking out. Just a childhood trope so far.

No time skips, reincarnation , curses, Silla era angry ghosts, no dealing with mountain spirits, seaweed sprites, shapeshifters or other various animal/man beings. Give it a fair try.

Wwooooowwww, John. Impressive. I’m in based on this…if only because the seaweed sprite reference might have been to Kkokdu.

It’s true, though, that I’m more worried about a tragedy based on the reality of the “human condition” which is often harder to take than mountain spirits.

But there will be childhood trauma, shrieking town folk, sexist tropes and possibly a white truck of doom!

The Childhood Trope contains Childhood Trauma as well. 😉Two sides of a coin 🪙

Bring it on, just leave the serial killers out of it.

4

Well, unless there is a white truck of doom and I think that is a serial killer of sorts.

4

I have to wonder if a Truck of Doom driver ever been held accountable ?

Drama Oasis had the ToD driver getting bumped off by the people who hired him ‼️ Dead men tell no tales 🏴‍☠️

I have the same hesitation, Seon-ha, so this one is earning the "wait and see" approach from me...

Ya all forgot the crappy script choices of Ji Chang Wook. But they both look lovely in this. And the name is so attractive, exotic even. I wonder what it says in Korean (sometimes I find Koreans names of the shows much more attactive than their English versions).

John, apparently no “seaweed sprites” but most definitely a Healer slapped with a side of seaweed.

I am sure this is not going to be a total rom-com. ML’ s mom was one of the famous Jeju Island haeyneo (women divers) who died because of an incorrect weather forecast.
Remember Song Kang’s character (know it all meteorologist) in the ‘other’ weather drama JTBC’s FORECASTING LOVE AND WEATHER (2022) (Netflix US)? Well, JCW’s character is going to be like that. Not afraid to tell of the powers to be off. Now Shin Hye-sun’s character’s mom (played by the great Kim Mi-kyung) (see my DB pic) is leader of the haeyneo. I am assuming she knew JCW’s mom. What I am saying is this is going to be complicated and I can’t wait. Thank you Netflix for assuaging availability angst.

There is so much here that looks fun! I’m excited for Marriage Contract, Samdalri, Death, and even Violent Crimes Unit! On the other hand I keep thinking to myself, “Ah, Nov 24, that’s ages away! I’ll definitely have time to pick up more dramas at that point!” And then I realize that today is Nov 7. 😳😱

*ahem* got to go watch some stuff…

Ji Chang Wook is a favorite (Healer, Suspicious Partner) and Shin Hye-sun. . . . .not so much. It's on my watchlist, so we will see if the WRITING manages to hold my interest.

As for Death's Game, absolutely, definitely not my genre but my favorite Yoo In Soo is a special guest (just as he was in Daily Dose) and I will watch his one episode simply to see my guy take on another unique role. He won "Rising Star Actor" award at the 18th Asian Model Awards this last weekend for good reason. 😄😄

As long as there is no serial killer shoe-horned into Welcome to Samdalri and they stick the landing, it'll be fine.

@Seon-ha That Ms. Gumiho to you :P

Sigh... I am hoping we'll escape the whole "It's a rom-com but look - bodies everywhere (and not in a good way)" trope.

If there is an escape, it will be a very narrow one for sure.

1) By watching these posters, I wouldn't think the FL is the one who time travelled from a difficult era to a completely new one, had lost her husband and was thrown in a well, but I guess being rich with a trauma is worse.

6) Really excited for this one! I hope it will be better than the last TV show we got about weather report...

I think ‘Death’s Game’ will be the one horror I’d be willing to watch this year. Everything I’ve seen about it intrigues me. The casting is 👌🏾

‘Welcome to Samdalri’ looks so cute. I’ll probably watch it sometime next year. Speaking of which, I’m sooo tempted to watch Ji Chang Wook’s ‘Lovestruck in The City’ even though I heard it was bummer, but the stills I come across online keep calling out to me. There’s just something about seeing Ji Chang Wook in agony over love, not enemies/gangs or childhood trauma that’s appealing to me...in a non-sadistic way, I promise😂🙌🏾Sigh...So Beanies, blue pill or red pill?

Lee Se Young is so pretty, I’ll also be watching Park’s Marriage next year.

Lovestruck was kind of painful for me because Ji Chang Wook mainly cries. But it's mostly mundane modern (love) life, and I tend to be bored when there is no psychopath.

I'd like to mention that I'm not an advocate for serial killers in romcoms. Genre mixing is a kdramas characteristic, but I prefer when the tone and scope are clear and consistent throughout.

(my first comment was eaten by the system... I'm reposting it)
This is a joke, I do watch and appreciate dramas without psychopath (A piece of your mind, Healer..). My friend says that I like psychopaths, and that's the reason why I've started Evilive. [well, that's one of the reasons]

Non-conventional persons make interesting stories.

I think its safe to say tha "Welcome to Samdalri" is part of JTBC's "2023 Small Town Trilogy" alongside "Good Bad Mother" and "Behind your Touch".
As with the possibility of this one have no serial killers? Gosh, I think lets all give up hope on that. There will be some kind of mystery/thriller elements whatsoever, the small town/countryside setting is perfect breeding ground for that kind of story.

And looking at the past drama in this "trilogy", it has its own elements of "dark" all too well:
- Good Bad Mother is half revenge/makjang-themed drama with over-the-top villain politicians lurking beneath.
- Behind your Touch, as goofy as it is, is actually a serial killer drama with a whooping high body count despite its slapstick humour.
- This one? High change it might follow a similar path to the two above.
