Drama viewership ratings for the week of December 25-31, 2023

We’ve seen worse preemption bouts than this, but with year-end award shows taking over the weekend, it feels like the whole of dramaland is a bit off-kilter. That being said, Like Flowers in Sand holds steady for its second week, Tell Me That You Love Me finally crosses that 2% mark, and The Matchmakers goes out with a very nice 5.8%. And with our non-cable weekend shows on break, we saw nice numbers — even for the TV Chosun/Jang Nara premiere.

I'm happy for The Matchmakers!!!

They won a lot of awards at the KBS Drama Award ceremony.

I'm disapointed that the channels don't give awards for the production like the writer, PD, etc. and only to the actors. They deserve to be praised for their hard work too!

Yes, it was *very* well-written, well-casted, well-scenographed, well-costumed, well-cut, well filmed.
Way over average. Enjoyable.

I miss The Story of Park's Marriage Contract and the other contract marriage drama, My Demon.

Even with Hyo-shim finally moving out Live Your Own Life is not doing good for weekender. It doesn't have a hook. There are neither enough likeable characters nor enough light-hearted, sweet, heart-warming moments. Most people are miserable and they are that by choice.

You are right about that.

I'm very impressed that all of them even bothered to air so close to NYE, esp on 31th - that's a ballsy move. Kinda stupid, but ballsy nonetheless))) Wish everyone deserving better ratings in 2024!

P.S. We are getting drama awards coverage, right?

^^ same. But then don't know if we could have survived another week for The Matchmakers finale.

I didn't watch the show, but apparently people loved how it ended, so perhaps it was the smart move indeed - uplifting viewers' mood right before the year ends. Much kinder approach than what winter dramas usually have *evil laugh*

* Well ... not we

Nice, at least someone had tears-free fun with theirs! Maybe I'll get lucky this year? *thinks hard* Probably not though)))

1

@Gikata If tears are mandatory for drama watching then maybe we could rant about the dramas and then laugh till we cry.

1

Not mandatory per se, I'm just optimistic enough to always ignore the sings of impending tragic ending... and masochistic enough to never learn stopping myself before it's too late))) I am certainly not watching dramas with the intention to cry in the first place... unless I have a fever - crying buckets helps to reduce that, so I have a few carefully selected melos saved for sick days. But most of the times it's a completely unintentional outcome!

1

@Gikata Apart from Heart💔Beat, which turned on a dime at the lastest of last minute and left me crying for months, I'd like to think I pretty good at hot potato-ing anything which makes me cry tragic tears. Of course Moving had me cry buckets and what is a K-drama which can't make one cry here and there in the most random of moments.

1

We definitely needed to have that ending without further delay, and it was *perfect* for Christmas Day. 😍

Perfect rhyme too.

Didn't even try!
I guess Pegasus knows why these lines just had to fly and end on a note that's high. 😉

Hmm ... Cecilie is on a song here in this NY!! 🎵

You have something to look forward to, then! Of course, there are some dark scenes ... and some of us were biting our nails even to that last episode ... even halfway through it!
But if you need something happy, and lots of love, and even some revenge served icy cold, then just drop whatever dark drama was going to drag you out where the ice is dark, and instead follow the marked path of our recommendations.

I've glanced over recaps and it doesn't look like my cup of tea, but thanks, I'll keep it in mind for the day when I'm truly unironically fed up with historical drama angst.

Very impressed with the final episode of The Matchmakers it was their highest too. Looking forward to seeing Tell me that you love me climbing too not many weeks left, I hope they to get to 4% by the end I am only in the early weeks but based on what I have seen so far they deserve it.

THE MATCHMAKERS should have finished even higher- it deserved to be watched as a true gem and one of the best shows of the year.

I hope it will stay and just gather audience, not that we who have seen it can tell everybody else that this is top shelf.

I didn't mean "not" I meant "now".
But with or without us actively advertising, it just deserves to stay for a long time as something not only I rewatch and that other people keep watching, like I did with Coffee Prince, It's Okay, Mr. Queen and Reply 1988.

The episodes of LIVE YOUR OWN LIFE were actually very messy. The show is still in re-set mode.

Only one episode of the Goryeo-Khitan War and an anniversary production really should be cracking 10% by now.

I hope Tell Me That You Love Me gets more and more love in the future. Same for Sand Flowers.
