News bites: March 9, 2024

Jeon Yeo-bin

  • Jeon Yeo-bin (A Time Called You) has been tapped for the period drama Made in Korea, possibly joining Jung Woo-sung (Tell Me That You Love Me) and Hyun Bin (Crash Landing on You) in the gritty 1970s. With filmmaker Woo Min-ho (The Man Standing Next) attached to direct, the series is expected to start filming in the summer of 2024. [JTBC, Newsen]

  • Kim Ji-eun (Branding in Seongsu) has been added to the cast of tvN’s Mom’s Friend’s Son, becoming another member of the childhood friend group with Jung Hae-in (D.P. 2) and Jung So-min (Alchemy of Souls). Directed by PD Yoo Je-won (Crash Course in Romance) with scripts by Shin Ha-eun (Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha), the friends-to-lovers rom-com is planning to broadcast later this year. [Osen]

  • A new poster has dropped for KBS’s Nothing Uncovered (previously Grabbed by the Collar), showcasing the larger main cast in the upcoming crime-mystery. Premiering in the Monday-Tuesday slot on March 18, the series stars Kim Haneul (Kill Heel), Yeon Woo-jin (Daily Dose of Sunshine), and Jang Seung-jo (Death’s Game) along with Jung Woong-in (Moon in the Day), Yoon Je-moon (High Cookie), and Han Chae-ah (The Secret Romantic Guesthouse). [News1]
  • Based on Hitoshi Iwaaki’s original manga, Netflix’s Parasyte: The Grey takes us to a disturbing world in the latest poster and first teaser, with leads Jeon So-ni (Our Blooming Youth), Gu Kyo-hwan (D.P. 2), and Lee Jung-hyun (The Family Is Coming). Creeping to our screens on April 5, production for the sci-fi horror has Yeon Sang-ho (Hellbound) both writing and directing, in addition to co-writing by Ryu Yong-jae (Money Heist Korea – Joint Economic Area). [Newsen]

  • In a rush of teasers ahead of Monday’s premiere, ENA’s The Midnight Studio delivers some comedy with its spooks: found here, here, and also here. Starring Joo-won (Stealer – The Treasure Keeper), Kwon Nara (Bulgasal – Immortal Souls), Yoo In-soo (Death’s Game), and Eum Moon-seok (Good Job), the fantasy romance is setting up shop on March 11. [Newsen]
  • Incidentally, it looks like SBS’s 7 Escape – Resurrection (previously 7 Reborn – War for Survival) is also in mourning for the dearly departed in the latest promos. But I imagine the context is… a tad different. The makjang’s second season begins this month on March 29 with Eom Ki-joon (Little Women), Hwang Jung-eum (Men Are Men), and Lee Joon (Red Heart) returning, among others in our ensemble cast. I am very glad to see Jeon Yeo Been, Hyun Bin and Jung Woo Sung will be starring in the same historical drama. Plus, Woo Min Ho (the brains behind Inside Men) will be the writer and director behind this historical drama. This one will not be an ordinary historical drama.

Finally someone realized that "Grabbed By the Collar" is not a good drama title.

Also Hyun Bin and Jung Woo Sung in a drama together!!! Whoa! I have high expectations

I was kind of getting used to Grabbed by the Collar! lol! You say Jung Woo sung and Hyun Bin in the same sentence, or anywhere anytime and I'll be showing up to watch! Still think of Tell Me That You Love Me frequently. The emotions and beauty of it linger on.

I couldnt get used to the title. So i am happy someone changed it! 😊
Yep just attach the names of JWS and HB in the same drama and they got my attention 😅

1. Ooohhh interesting cast

2. I do not care for Kim Jie Eun as an actress, blandness personified, but I am a Jung So Min fam and I love Jung Hae In, so will watch for them.

3. Nothing uncovered really is a better name.

5. Midnight studio, I hope this is good. It looks interesting and fun.

This is fair, all hidden until probably cheating husband, and then everything uncovered, so all shown🤭

The title alone is a win for me 😆 then we have Hae In and So Min together? Triple yes. I hope it’s heavy on the funny cos cause So Min is great at it and i dont want sad eyes Hae in (too much)

MOM'S FRIEND'S SON is sounding better and better if we go by casting!

And I'm confused - is PARASYTE: THE GREY going to be a movie or drama series? I'm watching the anime in preparation for this and it's... interesting.

Seems like the Korean Parasyte will be a drama set in the same universe as the anime.

Looks like a spin-off centered around another "possessed" human. There were more than one of them in manga/anime, but most didn't last long for spoiler-heavy reasons. Guess the show is going to abuse this white spot in canon.

1) I really lke Jeon Yeo-bin, I'm happy for her she gets the oppurnities to work with great actors.

2) I don't think that Kim Ji-eun is a good actress, so I'm happy she is not lead anymore but second lead. It would have been better if it was not in the Jung Hae-in and Jung So-min drama.

3) Give us the drama now!

4) I don't trust this kind of dramas. Horror + SF don't work well in Kdrama.

5) I'm curious about this one. I hope Yoo In-soo won't be the comic relief like in The Uncanny Counter because I really didn't like him, he wasn't funny at all.

Agree with all your remarks.

5) Yoo In-soo and Eum Moon-seok do seem to be set up as a comedy duo. Just hope the jokes land.

No. 2. tvN’s MOM’S FRIEND’S SON. I will be there later this year if available on a legal stream. Although I loved the ‘physical’ Jung Hae-in in D.P. I don’t think he will be throwing too many punches in this drama.
No. 3. KBS’s NOTHING UNCOVERED. KBS, how about doing the right thing and licensing this drama to Viki? Episode one airs Monday, March 18.

No. 5. ENA’s THE MIDNIGHT STUDIO (16 eps) will be available on Viki US. Episode one airs this Monday, March 11.

I hope THE MIDNIGHT STUDIO will be playing on Netflix or Viu in my region. Otherwise this is yet another drama I'll have to miss.

I hear you. In this kdramaworld of licensing we all struggle with the dreaded ‘availability angst’ from time to time.

I sooo love it when actors I don't like get paired up with actresses I also don't like! Means my faves are safe for a while, yass))) You can take your guesses regarding which drama I'm talking about^^

P.S. It's been a while since I've read drama news that made me genuinely excited... Come on, SK, do better!

I can't begin to think of who you might be referring to. Please drop a hint (or outright say who you mean 🥹)

That was a joke and I didn't really plan to make anyone guess, but since you've asked... OK, heavy hint: this particular casting new was very well received here in the comments)))

As for why I do not like these two actors... well, I was heavily unimpressed by each in their dramas I've seen. Heard they did better in other shows, but I really don't feel like testing that myself, enough was enough.

here’s to hoping Jeon Yeobeen still got to have a lot of screentimes in that Jung Woosung x Hyunbin drama because phew that’s a lot of big names put together. ANYWAYYYYYsss just the thought of having both Jeon Yeobeen and Jung Woosung in my screen together!!

1. A new Jeon Yeo-bin drama. Yay!

2. Please tell me the romantic pairing is between Jung Hae-in and Jung So-min. Also, I just realized this is the third pairing of two leads with the same last name that's registered on my radar recently

We've got a drama with the two Kims (Queen of Tears), the two Parks (Dr Slump), and now we're getting one with the two Jungs.

I've missed Jung Hae-in and his expressive eyes and had to rewatch D.P. to scratch that itch, so I'm hoping and praying this show is good.

3. Looking forward to Parasyte: the Grey. I just hope it doesn't let me down like Sweet Home S2 and Gyeongsong Creature. I was super excited for both those dramas and ended up sorely disappointed to the point of dropping them 😒

Also, Koo Kyo-hwan 😍
