News bites: February 24, 2024

  • Although originally slated for a March 9 premiere, MBN announced that Missing Crown Prince has been postponed, the official reason being to deliver an even better final product. Starring Suho (Behind Your Touch), Hong Ye-ji (Love Song for Illusion), Myung Se-bin (Doctor Cha), Kim Joo-hun (Castaway Diva), and Minkyu (Maestra – Strings of Truth), the sageuk rom-com will now be launching on April 13. [News1]

  • A retro-style new poster has dropped for Chief Detective 1958, paying homage to the original star Choi Bool-am (Goodbye to Goodbye) and introducing our hero’s return in MBC’s new prequel with Lee Je-hoon (Taxi Driver 2) taking up the mantle. Coming to our screens on April 19, production has filmmaker Kim Sung-hoon (Rampant, Confidential Assignment) at the helm with scripts by Kim Young-shin. [Sports Donga]

  • MBC has also been gearing up for the upcoming Wonderful World, hinting more about Kim Nam-joo (Misty) and Cha Eun-woo’s (A Good Day to Be a Dog) connection in the latest teaser. With the series also headlined by Kim Kang-woo (Artificial City) and Im Se-mi (The Worst of Evil), the revenge-mystery will be airing weekends starting March 1. [MBC]
  • In a flurry of cameo casting news on tvN, Jung Kyung-ho (Crash Course in Romance) confirmed he’ll be popping up in Wedding Impossible as Bae Yoon-kyung’s (Unicorn) blind date, reciprocating Bae’s guest role on Jung’s last drama. Queen of Tears, on the other hand, will feature an appearance by Song Joong-ki (Reborn Rich), who worked with both Kim Soo-hyun (One Ordinary Day) and Kim Ji-won (My Liberation Notes) in the past. • KBS’s Beauty and the Pure Guy released a new poster and video teaser, giving us a peek into what will hopefully be a warm and fuzzy childhood arc. With Lee Seol-ah (Welcome to Samdal-ri) and Moon Sung-hyun (My Dearest) as the younger versions of Im Soo-hyang (Kokdu: Season of Deity) and Ji Hyun-woo (Young Lady and Gentleman) respectively, the weekender is set to premiere on March 23. • The promo train has taken off for SBS’s 7 Reborn – War for Survival, the second installment to 7 Escape, and we’re reunited with our deliciously makjang characters in the first script reading stills. Premiering on March 29 in the weekend slot, the bulk of the cast are reprising their roles, including Eom Ki-joon (Little Women), Hwang Jung-eum (Men Are Men), and Lee Joon (Red Heart). Newly joining the lineup is Lee Jung-shin (Shooting Stars). [SBS]

Beauty and the pure guy looks so cute I hope it can stay on the watch list as we get more info.

Wonderful world gets me every time as the title sounds like it’s going to be something light but the content is dark and heavy.

Oh, others might find the delay for Missing Crown Prince to be concerning, but can we just remember the gestalt of the last photos for a moment? Dark, brooding and a jewel-toned Suho-forward affair?

https://www.dramabeans.com/2024/02/the-search-begins-for-mbns-missing-crown-prince-suho/

One can't help but notice that the trailer @tccolb linked to just last week is now gone...and the jewel tones are replaced with (wait for it) PASTELS!!

This is prolly gonna be a glorious, one for which we can't ever, EVER say, "Oh, the poster didn't reflect the tone of the drama--it was false advertising," because the drama's been advertised in any and all ways.

I have recently found myself missing the February trainwrecks of 2023 (Kkokdu and Heavenly Idol) so I'm dead serious about my excitement.

Truly, the mood-swings of the promotional materials have been bewildering. I had been thinking I'd wait to watch it after hearing what Beanies had to say, but you're right - this one might be a FUN train wreck!!

Your comment about Missing Crown Prince cracked me up. They are advertising it on all ways.
Bossam was a masterpiece for me. But while I trust the writer, I can't help but worry about the casting. Soo-ho didn't attract me in Behind Your Touch and I dropped Love Song for Illusion partly of the bad writing and partly because of the FL.
I think I will await beanies' review before I join this one.

I like the cast of 7 Reborn but not in the mood for the makjangy plot.

Missing Crown Prince is still in my to-watch list. Hopefully it will be good with the delay and all.

1) I have no intention to watch it, so I don't really care.

2) I didn't watch the original one but I'm curious about this one.

3) I'm still wondering about Im Semi's role...

4) So many famous actors being a cameo in the next dramas!

6) I didn't watch the first season, so not interesting in the second one, even for Lee Jung-Shin.

2) I’m especially curious about it because it was directed by a maker of Confidential Assignment and Rampant. Interesting.

How interesting that they've pulled Missing Crown Prince. I do hope they can salvage it, although I wasn't particularly interested in watching anyway. It was quite clear from the initial promotions that something was amiss and likely headed for disastrous reviews. I wonder if they'll cut it back to 16 episodes, which imo is the very first thing they should be considering.

1. Postponing Missing Crown Prince (originally slated for a March 9 premiere) is a good decision when it comes to viewership, as it will be up against Wonderful World and Queen of Tears, two upcoming mega dramas.
2. Can't wait to start this detective drama!
3. Love a 40-something female actress in a non-motherly and action role.
4. Love Jung Kyung Ho, but I don't think i will watch him in this romcom drama.
5. Not for me, thank you.
6. No more makjang for me, after Marry My Husband.

Am I imagining it or does Lee Joon look a lot like Kim Tae-hoon in that photo? Maybe it’s the glasses?
