For what it said about how f’ed up we are as a people, ep 14 of #FoS2 may be one of the single best episodes of a kdrama I’ve ever seen. Oddly, I think it would have more sense if SDJ had died.

People complained earlier about FoS2 being boring, throwing so many questions without any hint of answers. I thought that’s the point of why FoS is FoS. Ep 13 and 14 just pull everything together in a master stroke that leaves me breathless and wordless. It has beaten its own S1 crown to be an even much more superior piece.

Can’t wait for the glorious yet seemingly depressing finale. All I wish is let justice be done.

Will be a happy camper for S3.

The attention to detail is breathtaking. I have to agree, based on how eps 13-14 unfolded, s2 > s1 IMO. There has literally been no wasted acting – the slight anxiety that made me think the boy wasn’t so innocent in the drowning, that curious look CB gave regarding the new shoes, the reveal that the newbie prosecutor reminded Shi-mok of Eun-soo.. never ever would have put these things together, especially fitting it into the police vs prosecution story. Really masterful like you say.

In a way, SDJ was collateral damage.. from the actions of the bullies, to the inattentive father who cared more about his son’s college pedigree, to CB who overlooked the new shoes detail (since she went there for a publicity stunt in the first place), to prosecution who planted the fake witness, and of course, the bullied victim himself. It would have made more sense if SDJ had died because a power play between police vs prosecution is ultimately what would have made the difference between a man’s life and death, and for most of the episode when I did think SDJ was dead, I had thought the show was using the slow burn death of a character whom I was emotionally invested in to depict the more realistic cruelty that people who are of at fault of their own suffer the consequences of the actions of others.
It’s still pretty crazy.. in the second half of the episode and even now, I don’t know if I can fault for the kid for what happened – it brought to mind countless class discussions on whether we should try to understand the perpetrator as a victim vs look at the crime for what it is. The execution of this episode was flawless.

“power play between police vs prosecution is ultimately what would have made the difference between a man’s life and death”. Agreed! But I also fear the power play could turn into an ugly blame game if Dong-jae really died.
