I have watched and finished Flower of Evil.

There were so many things I LOVED about this show. Although interestingly the parts didn’t sum up as a whole that I can love, but it still left a very pleasant aftertaste for me.

I LOVE Lee Jun Gi and his acting style, and he was perfect here. He exudes so much energy and charisma that it is mesmerizing.

I have always loved Moon Chae Won, ever since she was a frantic but extremely relatable second lead in Shinning Inheritance, to when she was one of the best female lead characters ever in The Princess’ Man. She definitely showed her experience here.

I loved both cop sunbaes.
Choi Young Joon had fantastic characterization and delivery, I was waiting for and loving his smallest scenes the whole time.
Choi Dae Hoon is a different matter. I have a ridiculous soft spot for him and I don’t even know why! I’m always happy to see him in dramas and he usually turns rogue and breajs my heart LOL . You can imagine my surprise and delight at his role here. I LOVED watching him, and if I ever rewatch this show it will be because of these two and their hoobae, and their chief.

Jang Hee Jin is another one I have always had a soft spot for, since 2005 no less. I liked watching her too.

On the whole, I’m happy to ignore everything else. So it’s a win.

The story gets rather ridiculous in the last quarter but it is still fun.

Ha! Well, I do have a good history of dropping dramas at ep 12 🙂 who cares! As long as it’s fun while it lasts.

“On the whole, I’m happy to ignore everything else.” I think that’s the key to getting through dramas that have filler episodes, unlikable characters or sometimes poor acting, makjang . . . but all in all, the drama has enough good vibes and assets to still enjoy it.

Sometimes it is just too hard. Like with Good Job, the story took a sudden insane nosedive which left me speechless at how bad it got. It completely ceased to be fun.

But Flower of Evil was never spectacular story-wise. Its strength was in its actors and its characters. So although the story did become increasingly more ridiculous, the actors continued to do their jobs excellently, and it stayed fun.

    I enjoyed your remarks.

Lee Jun Gi is in a category all his own. Mainly in order to see his performance, I bought Scarlet Heart Ryeo on video bc it was not available to me on Viki or Netflix. SHR may have weaknesses in production and story, but Lee Jun Ki’s androgynous machismo was compelling, imo. In FoE, that air of mystery behind his amazing eyes yields yet another compelling performance.

I second your opinion of FL Moon Chae Won, and I add kudos to the writer for her strong female character. I generally abandon kdramas featuring a beautiful FL who passively waits to be rescued by the ML.

Yes, I too perk up (though not sure why) whenever I see supporting player Choi Young Hoon. I particularly liked him in Vincenzo and Our Blues (as the ice seller with a larger role than in his others I’ve seen).

Jang Hee Jin as the sister is a favorite too, particularly as the Queen in Red Sleeve.

To your list of supporting players, let me add Seo Hyun Woo as the reporter/friend. He had a small part in My Mister (my favorite Kdrama) as the hoobae who made impulsive, inappropriate, funny remarks. I’m glad to see he had a more substantial role in FoE. The basement hostage scene with ML with subsequent cover up by both frenemies to the FL was a favorite.
