I must surely be the only one in the universe who is skeptical of watching sequels and second seasons. When a drama finishes off fine, why don’t we just end there?

If a show was exceptionally good and it’s suited for sequels, many would want another season. However, shows getting another season seem to be a new norm, even when it WASN’T that good from the beginning. Now, this is something I just don’t understand. Like, what’s the point???

I knowww! People need to understand that life doesn’t always go the way we want. Your fave character doesn’t need a resurrection or reincarnation in the sequel lmao. And sequels just never hit the same is what I’ve noticed. Look at Alchemy of Souls for example. I was so mad at season 2!

I wholeheartedly agree that it is impossible to create the exact same thing. But as a FoS apologist, I have to say season 2 was just as great as S1 –equally mind-blowing. Some disappointed, saying it didn’t feel the same with S1. True! And I’d say had Lee Seo Yeon wrote the exactly the same with just different characters, then it would merely a repetition, and not a creative work. But she managed to write a totally different story, yet absolutely gripping, and I couldn’t thank and admire her enough for that.
That said, I’ll be waiting for FoS 3 with the same cast.

Well, many Beanies – me included – think FoS S2 is just as brilliant as S1. Some even think S2 is better.

Back on the ‘season’ topic, it suits certain genres such as medical dramas like Dr Kim and Hospital Playlist or police procedural like Good Detective.

When a new season continues the story line, then it absolutely makes sense. My problem comes in when the writer bring a new story line with the same characters (a few new ones), even if they pick up a few things from the first season. It’s so hard to maintain the same pace and keep the drama just as interesting. Only a few shows in my opinion have been able to achieve this. If they ruin the second season for Squid Game it won’t even be funny lmao

          Is FoS 3 confirmed?

We’re getting a spin-off, around…next year? It’s said it would be about Dong Jae. Everytime I think about him, I can only think about the comedic part of the drama. That said, I’d love to see Lee Seo Yeon serving us with more dose of comedy. Though I’d miss Hwang Shi Mok terribly.

It seems kdrama producers are starting to follow that multiple seasons trend from the West, I don’t really know how I feel about it, I guess something like Doctor Kim can have multiple seasons if it is different stories every episode with one big problem for whole season

Totally agree if it’s about different characters with different stories. It would make sense. A second season would also be cool if it were an active continuation of the first season. A whole new season with a new story line even with the same characters is such an easy flop these days. Just never hits as hard.

I think The Tale of the Nine Tailed had good second season, the first one I think I dropped after first episode, but second season was fun, but yes, it was mostly absolutely different story

oh yeah. I’ve heard the second season was better than the first. The first season was nothing too special, but it wasn’t totally bad. I am still to watch the second season, but I’ll totally check it out after all the good reviews.

I don’t mind the seasonal format so long as the writer is confident about their story. Imho more and more show getting another season, simply because the production team expect the watchers stay loyal despite the quality of their production. Not that I blame them. Most of us wouldn’t give a second thought of watching our fave on the screen despite the show borderline ridiculous.

King The Land or “King The Junho” as a beanie stated earlier is proof of this ahahah

I agree with you. Unless, the writing was designed to include a second season from the start or the plot can sustain an addition season, I join sequels with the burden of heavy skepticism.
