The episodes of “Scarlet Heart: Ryeo” wherein the WangSo Couple (i.e. IU/Lee Ji Eun & Lee Joon Gi) are heavily featured— they make the drama for me ❣️

Not just you, and I asked myself the same questions about being too used to Asian dramas. I found him not near the level of the Japanese actors which just helped make the drama that much more Japan-centric for me (much preferable to the 80s version). Or was he actually just very good at conveying the character’s blockheadedness and fish-out-of-water-ness in the face of the ornate strategies of the Japanese characters?

Please do continue on, imo everyone gets better and better.

(After the reviews, this Austen fan decided to avoid that version of Persuasion.)

Happy weekend Beanies and keep Beaning On!

Ever since Easter, which is a month ago, pneumonia has been terrorizing our family. My niece got ill, followed by my sister, followed by our mother and me since last week. One by one suffering from the same symptoms and receiving the same pneumonia diagnosis.😷

So, imagine my shock when, after listening to my lungs, my doctor tells me I do not have pneumonia. If not pneumonia, then what exactly? Don’t get me wrong, I am very relieved to hear this news, but the muscle cramping and high fever and the splitting headaches and the nearly coughing my head off, are not reassuring at all.🤔

“Just a very, very bad cold…” The doctor shrugs and prescribes me the same amount of medicine and house arrest as my pneumonia suffering relatives.🤯 My body seems to be overdramatic, because I have never heard of someone with a nasty cold suffering from pneumonia symptoms.😅

Happy Friday!!
Have been thinking about age gap dramas all year. So many shows coming up with Noona age gaps. Then I saw this article in Soompi.

"The noona romance, a popular sub-genre, is gaining momentum as dramas that depict older woman being wooed by a much younger man give us some heart-fluttering love stories. The age-disparate relationships use the trope to address different kinds of issues and topics."

https://www.soompi.com/article/1654115wpp/7-charming-noona-romances-to-binge-watch

What are your thoughts??
Do you prefer Ajusshi or Noona relationships in a drama?
How does the culture where you live feel about these kind of relationships?

For myself- looks are key. If either actor looks much younger or older than each other that won't work for me.
Yes yes- we all have opinions about Goblin. (she was too young) Any other shows that stand out- good or bad???
I dropped one earlier this year because of my "look" issue.
In my culture it is still common to see older men with younger women, but I rarely see the opposite.
I'm all for happiness and if they can find a great partner I'm for it.

Oh, one other Korean drama issue- Anything where guy is young and below military age, but women is older, is not believeable to me. Are they really going to wait around???

Have a great weekend!!!

Ah sequels. You may or may not know that I am a fan of Weak Hero Class 1 and I've even read the webtoon. Because I like and know of the story, I've been anticipating the second season HOWEVER the more time that passes, the more nervous I get about the end result. Will it at least be able to match S1?

I've seen 2 sequel series and some of a 3rd and all failed to match up to their first seasons (I think they were still considered successful but still)

I'll start with the one that I think was the most successful and that I know has a 3rd season in the works: Taxi Driver. Don't get me wrong, I don't hate the 2nd season or think it's bad that it's getting a 3rd season because I think it's kinda cathartic seeing Do Ki and the rainbow taxi crew helping the desperate but even with how record breaking (I think it broke records) it was, it pales compares to S1. Some say it's cause of the big bad being an over aching villian who was related to the cases. I didn't mind that so I can't say much on it. For me, I think it was the tone (maybe) and resolutions. I think the show more comedic than S1 because the characters are in a healthier mindspace so the show is a little lighter. Again, not necessarily bad but I think apart of S1's appeal was a certain grittiness. I could be wrong. Next, resolutions. S1 had the bad guys unlawfully imprisoned (some were killed I think) and then legally imprisoned. S2 had one episode where a guy is left obsessively searching for money near land mines so I guess we're suppose to assume he eventually gets blown up? Another guy was left in a trash heap. I think Do Ki had a bit of a Batman/Joker dynamic with the bad guy. All that to say, the vibes were certainly different haha

D.P.'s 2nd season is largely forgettable aside from ONE case and the actor's performance. I think this was the actor's first drama since he usually does musicals. The 2nd covered the same topic and *tries* to give some commentary on how perspective can affect things as well as some conclusion and yet, it just didn't land as well as S1 (except for 1 case). It was only that one episode and we got a whole heartbreaking journey which felt like it was removed from the actual show.

The uncanny counter S2 actually followed much of its source material just like S1 and yet, it was somehow missing the heart, humor, and development of previous season. I think it was alot going in, a little bit of time, and more focus on the visual effects such as the telekinesis (which again IS a big skill set the counters & evil spirits all use in the webtoon). I don't think the show is *bad* but again, it just somehow lacks in comparison.

It makes me wonder how Weak Hero Class 2 will do because it's more characters and expectations for it.

I don't know where this superhuman talk is coming from. But I'm guessing it is from his ear. The only reason why his hearing is amplified is because jealous On San amped the decibel of the ear fix technology to 30k decibels. It wasn't a product of the clinical trial surgery. So I don't think it is safe to imply that the surgery amplified his hearing.

i don't know why i thought it was going to be a rom com...
: D

let's just say i think Song Hye Kyo is FLAT, emotionless. if that's her character role, then she does great. if she has to emote (in a positive way), she's lacking.
