Something fun I’ve learnt about the Korean language: It is infinitely capable of accommodating new words which are created from the abbreviations and partial fusions of existing words.
A little while ago I realised that “월화드라마” (romanised approximation as “wolhwadeulama”,(pronunciation link: https://korean.dict.naver.com/koendict/#/search?query=월화드라마)
means “Monday-Tuesday drama”. It was created by taking the first syllables of Monday.
“월요일 and Tuesday, “화요일” to create “월화드라마”.

I love that, maybe they wanted to differentiate because the day the drama is shown on brings a certain quality expectations or will receive lower ratings just because it is on that day.

Ooh, I love this! My favorite Korean language thing I’ve learned recently is that their word for “preyed” as in “the tiger preyed upon the deer” is a mashup of the words for “catch” and “eat”! So it’s literally, “the tiger caught-ate the deer” which is just the best and most logical name for that word of all time.

Oh! It is cool. Could you please share it in Hangeul?

I meant to also tell you how straightforward but amusing I find the meaning of 물고기 (As you would know: fish but literally water meat). The other word for fish 생선 seems much more dignified, maybe because I don’t know what each syllable might mean.

물 is the best combiner-word they have I’m pretty sure! Tear = eye water (눈물), broth = soup water (국물), fish = water meat (물고기) (which I chuckle at more often than not), and I bet there are loads more! I just learned broth recently too, so these combos have been on my mind lately!

Ohhh. I recently learnt the word for broth too! I wish we could keep this going but i know we will be here until the cows come home. What a good way to spend our time though!🥰😂. One more then? (목소리). Throat noise is the best, isn’t it? Just hilarious, wonderful and a rhythmically gorgeous word to my ears.
