Perfect Marriage Revenge

Episodes 3-4

Are we really allowed to have so much FUN.

Is it even LEGAL.

Can a drama be so nonsensical very entertaining and delicious.

These deep and philosophical questions and more arise in the mind of Seeker during the pleasure watch that is Perfect Marriage Revenge.

So let us enjoy this trope fest while it lasts.
The Treasure Hunt for this drama would be what trope is NOT used in this.

Since it is obviously not possible to talk about this drama in any sort of coherent manner, so here are just some random thoughts with a side of speculation.

The Case of THE KISS and other Sung Hoon-ni sshi matters

Dear Beanies as we learned last week an Episode 2 kiss is no longer the sole prerogative of Song Kang and we have a new challenger to the Kissie Throne,
aka
– our very own,
– v-e-r-r-r-y handsome,
– whiskey voiced (when did he develop this voice? I’m pretty sure he never spoke like this before – pro-tip don’t hear his voice, especially at 0.5x while driving – you will be booked for intoxication),
– totally swoony,
– childhood traumatized,
– protein coffee drinking (is it a “real” thing),
– rameyon cooking (bad choice Boo),
– tongue ripping (“ouch” – no that’s most definitely NOT love – even if the future husband / now fiancรฉ deserves his head banged by much more than a mere hanging light which he totally KO’ed btw),
– knocking the wind out of the sails of 2ML (ML’s hyung),
– inviting us to “create great living spaces” (with him),
– totally looking through the shenanigans of the 2FL,
– gamely burnt brownie eating,
– lost puppy at the sheer denseness of the FL who apparently cannot “feel” the love yet (**just hit her on the head with that rameyon saucepan),
📢 Ladies and Gentlewomen – presenting the newest Oppa on the Block –
🎊 Sung Hoon! 🎊
👏 🍾 🥂 🎉

To recap, we witnessed just the beginning of The Kiss at the end of Episode 2.
**to the discordant chorus of Beaniedom with one half yelling Ppoppo-ye Ppoppo-ye and the other half 🤮**

Now starting the beginning of Episode 3, with a spiffy wave of the amnesia wand of before the kiss happenings, I found myself strangely invested in THE KISS. It was perfect and more …
– camera angles were perfect,
– we got to see the OTP kissing through a heart shaped hole in a garden wall full of heart shaped holes (is that a “real” thing), and
– it was a REAL KISS 👏

ALL HAIL the newly crowned KISSIE KING !! 🤴 💋 🥳

Other Matters

What other matters …. “omo, Omo, OMO … Doctor, Doctor – are you are saying I got a severe case of the Swoonies from a makjang ML.”

Triggering factors as above also including:
– The commanding “Marry Me” in that voice,
– Which was then sealed with a flower placeholder ring,
Base Camp … er, is that the place where the OTP can take time to explore
first base, second … okay let us keep this family-friendly … what do you mean this is how you make families …

– Moving on … ah okay … what to say – quote of the day

Love her, trust her, be by her side so that she can do what she really wants to do.

Squee … Puddle is this the best ML, like ever? Also, Sung Hoon can ACT?
Who’d have thunk!

To In-Law or not to In-Law

Ah, well where to begin this super packed comedy show. The looney farm is over-run with In-Laws here, there, everywhere.
– The walking talking shampoo advert who is incidentally the ML’s brother-in-law and also secretary curls his hair with pink curlers, heh.
– FL’s not to be mother-in-law pulls her hair,
– FL’s to be sister-in-law is awesome at making entrances, she puts down most spectacularly the evil step sister and not-to-be sister-in-law, and race cars her way to the In-laws meeting,
– The to be In-laws have the most makjang meeting which starts with a handshake (that was or wasn’t, we will never know),
– FL’s adopted mom tries to sabotage the FL in front of the In-laws (fails miserably, yay for FL)
– ML’s mom is having none of it as she seems to have fallen for the FL, her to be daughter-in-law,
– She gets good advice from her mother-in-law

Pity is something you should feel for a stray cat not a daughter-in-law.

– ML’s halemoni and FL’s harabeoji have … words and … I can’t even 🙈

Speculations / Wishlist

What I think

ML’s hyung is totally lying
– he tried to kill ML and toppled over,
– ML has amnesia and doesn’t remember,
– he is pretending to be disabled, – he’s adopted,
– if not then ML is adopted,
– he’s using his excuse of disability to take over halemoni’s business,
– we saw from the preview that he is teaming up with 2FL. I don’t think they will marry but they are pictured together in opening credits right after the leads.

– FL is secret Chaebol, evil secretary specs is not evil but her secret brother or brother-in-law since that is in fashion.

– ML’s girl gang is solid – hope we get many awesome scenes of halemoni, mom, sis and FL hanging and chilling.

– Whether ML is also from the future or not, he sure knows a lot more than he let’s on.

– Hope FL stops listening to useless people and listens to her heart for a change and plays house with ML – they can go from base to base.

– Don’t want to see the face of that not to be husband or family, unless they are getting slapped. That reminds me, aren’t we in shortage of some well deserved slaps to the evil bunch.

– Can the FL start with the Revenge business already.

Am I the only one who can’t get rid of this earworm.

Love it – and the swoony, swoony ML!! 😍 You know what’s most surprising to me about this drama so far? That the FL has a friend (!!!), and she seems non-toxic 😂👍

    2

    haha, love it!
You do make som every good points on the plot (some of which I can’t comment on because I have no self-discipline and went on to read the still-ongoing webtoon โ€”ย 110 episodes so far and levels of boredom that should be illegal because, as @vienibenmio explains on her wall, this is so incredibly slow-paced)

Can the FL start with the Revenge business already?
Well yes, please… But thankfully she went on and designed a revenge plan on paper (and I am assuming she left it in plain sight too) so hopefully, it’s only a matter of time before she unlocks her full Super-Bitch side. (let’s be honest, she will not)

Surprisingly good music as well… So many dramas will pick one song that barely fits the scene and play it on repeat (see Healer, which is awesome but has crap music), or pick the least engaging tune they can find. And here we get some nice and fully energetic credit tune… Wow. Slow cap, bravo drama, bravo.

โ€“ we saw from the preview that he is teaming up with 2FL. I donโ€™t think they will marry but they are pictured together in opening credits right after the leads.
OMG, you are so so so close! He also needs a revamp before he teams up with anyone. His going-to-die-a-virgin outfit is really nothing Yoo-ra would want to be seen next to.

    – ML is totally looking through the shenanigans of the 2FL
Yes, he is, so is his sister Do-na. Perhaps because Yoo-ra (2FL) is as subtle as a brick. Perhaps because they both know someone just like her (see Leg of Steel boy)… Just saying!

โ€“ Donโ€™t want to see the face of that not to be husband or family, unless they are getting slapped. That reminds me, arenโ€™t we in shortage of some well deserved slaps to the evil bunch.
I will venture one thought here. The Not-to-be-in-laws, mother and daughter, are bribable as we’ve seen. As for the not-to-be husband, we know that he got married to stay close to his crush, Yoo-ra. Hopefully, there is only so much shit he can take from her, and she has been rather on the abusive side with him recently. So, who knows? He may get bored of her and distribute some much-needed slaps inside his own family himself. I don’t think a one-sided crush would survive that long when one is being constantly mishandled.

Yes, isn’t the webcomic sooo slow paced? It also was released on a day that I have a lot of other webcomics update, so I eventually just stopped reading it. I got pretty far though, further than I had thought, and I also went on Reddit and found out the ending.

It’s hard not to comment on plot theories when you know what’s gonna happen! The drama is changing some stuff, though, so who knows. Also, since you just read it, can you remind me: ML’s company was software related in the comic, right? Not design?

      2
      1

The drama has definitely changed some aspects… aside from the pace. One element refers to the bespectacled secretary, and this seems to be a change from the webtoon plot-line, while they have not changed the character. (not saying more because this would be such an unnecessary spoiler)

Yes! The ML company was gaming based, but it wasn’t hugely related to the plot. However, that’s why he had a gaming room in his flat, and they’ve kept this part of his story.

Also the accident that kills the FL is not a car accident. She crosses the road without looking for traffic. This is also not quite relevant to the plot the way it happens, and the car accident will make a much more interesting point further down the line (I suspect, but could be wrong)

They are 110 episodes in… still going, and while I have committed to finding out the final end, I might just stick with the ending the drama shows instead (because Writer-nim is making a much better job than that bloody webtoon). The webtoon is so boring. So, so, sooooooooooooo boring. I’m surprised someone picked it for a drama adaptation, but I am happy it landed in the hands of a talented writer.

          This is so reassuring.

          My take on speculations
          – We the Beanies must pit our wits against a makjang writer,
          – Beanies get to make optimum use of their collective drama watching knowledge.

I also have noticed the change with the secretary and the circumstances of FL’s death. I don’t believe her family was involved with her death in the comic, but it’s possible that just hasn’t been revealed yet (however, I doubt it based on a future story reveal).

A REALLY major change is that, in the comic, her mother is not actually her adoptive mother. Her adoptive mother died and her father quickly married another woman who already had a daughter (Yu-ra). Although I believe at this point in the comic that Yu-ra was the father’s biological daughter whom he’d been hiding, since he brought them into the family VERY quickly.

*at this point in the comic the story indicated that Yu-ra was the father’s biological daughter

This week the speed of the drama definitely seemed to have lagged somewhat.
The story while progressing at a nice clip (as fast as ML’s hyung can run) was not neck-break.

If FL is not going to put plan revenge in action by next week – half the drama would be over as we only have 12 episodes. 😲

Agreed, ML and his sister have lots of practice in dealing with “shenanigans” but then technically so does FL. Still she’s second guessing herself about the ML based on the not-to-be husband’s not subtle manipulation. That is why it was refreshing to have both the ML and his sister shut down evil step sister in their own ways.

Yay! Bring on some slaps … I don’t mind sticks either. Ooh imagine FL running behind not-to-be mother-in-law to beat her with sticks. 🤣

Sorry McDs – I’m loving THIS!

I’m happy with any or all spoilers… just mark it as such so people who do not want to be spoiled can skip that comment.

And … are we seriously considering not spoiling ourselves for makjang?

You do have a LOT of self-control.

And I would really love to hear your unfiltered thoughts.

There was such an uproar last time someone spoiled a drama by writing about it before there was a recap, I’m remaining tight-lipped until this one has ended.
I’ll definitely will write a little more on the comparison between webtoon and actual drama when this is over. But for now, it’s tough to actually decide what is a spoiler and what isn’t. There are some parts of the story where I can tell where the writer is going with, and others where I’m not sure whether the changes were made to keep it fast-paced (seriously, the webtoon is soooo slow) or to amend the plot-line (which I’d be totally okay with to som extends… because some elements of the webtoon plot are quite weak)
Soooo, if I reveal what I’ve read so far in the webtoon, would I be actually giving spoilers away or would I be confusing everyone? I don’t know!!!

😄 … well you are the best judge so I will leave it in your hands.

Yes, that’s the problem with webcomic adaptations – they often make so many changes that even readers have zero idea what’s gonna go down. Even with 19th Life I was like “they’re changing a lot but there’s NO WAY they’ll change (this specific thing).” I was always wrong.

    YAR HERE BE COMIC SPOILERS

So you know the reveal with Do-guk’s role in the accident? I’m wondering how that’s gonna play out in the drama, since they changed the circumstances of the accident as well as how she actually died. I’m also wondering the meaning of his comments to her in ep 1 of the drama in the original timeline, where he seemed VERY frustrated with her being a doormat to an extent that didn’t make much sense given their original relationship. Basically, I’m wondering if that scene happened when he had already started his new timeline and knew about her tragic fate (hopefully you know what I mean, I’m trying to be as vague as possible).

    2
    3

Ohh I just remembered the art gallery scene with Do-guk would have been the same day she died! So, yes, that MUST be it, right?

      1
      1

I’m also wondering if they’re gonna keep the same scenes where he saw her in the original timeline (I hope so!)

      2
      1

It does seem that in episode 1, ML knew more about FL than he should know in the ordinary course.
My speculation is – he knew her from orphanage.
In episode 4 he specifically asked her “how much time to you have”.
So yes, all things point to prior knowledge.

        0
        0

      I know what you mean.

My reading of the “don’t be a fucking doormat scene” is that Do-guk’s always liked Yi-joo (FL) and was being frustrated by her passive submission (which the drama plays as complete lack of awareness; essentially, as Do-guk has experience watching scheming bastards through his brother so he probably can’t understand how Yi-joo does not see her sister and adoptive mother plotting against her). At this point, we are in the original timeline.

Bearing in mind Do-guk would have attended the initial wedding as Se-hyeok’s (not-to-be husband) employer/coworker or even met Yi-joo at any company’s event where spouses and family were invited too. In other words, he would have already seen how miserable she is and how much unfair treatment she seems to accept.

Admittedly, this could be completely wrong! I also like the idea of multiple timelines that don’t happen simultaneously.

We, of course, need to see more about the wrist date.
Especially because of how Do-guk reacted when they were discussing the length of the marriage contract, and Yi-joo, upon checking her wrist, suggested one year. Makjang, please show us more about the secondary timeline as it is packed with untold spoilers right now. (and it is killing me)

I am wondering why they changed the accident… Did they want to meet the mandatory a truck of doom ratio of dramaland?

      2
      2

That date on the wrist is killing me and I cannot read it however much I pause or screenshoot. In Episode 1 the subtitles showed the date but never after that – I don’t know if it is counting down or changing or what the hโ‚ฌll.

Truck of Doom are very hard-working indeed. It was borderline hilarious how it hit both cars.

        1
        3

Yeah, it’s possible it’s stemming just from his interactions with her in the original timeline (especially seeing her cry at that party) and seeing how terribly everyone treats her, but the way the scene played out really made me wonder if it’s his new timeline. The “I won’t talk to you again” thing he seemed REALLY hurt, a little too intensely even if they keep it from the comic that he kind of fell for her at first sight in the original timeline. But both are possibilities for sure
