Episodes 1-2

I admit that the only reason Perfect Marriage Revenge was ever on my radar was because of Sung Hoon, more particularly him in Noble, My Love. 👇

Apparently a good laugh is a cure-all for all ills and a good bad drama is sure to elicit a few.ย
And isn’t it fun when the drama surprises you by being, … well bad(er). 😀

After all going all out
makjang and cramming in all known tropes in one drama is an “art” not many can hope to achieve.

More than that what really works for the drama is speed and as we all know, SPEED KILLS.

TA DAA… cue, the FL cry-driving a white car rashly takes a U-turn and is hit by a black car and a (obviously white) Truck of Doom hits both cars …. (and here I take a leap of the Cliff of Doom) KILLING BOTH LEADS!!

PHEW!! How that for Neck-break Speeding!

The drama DOES NOT wait to catch its breath.

The Truck of Doom was not the cliffhanger and apparently 30 mins of more tropes story is crammed into Episode 1 – which is NOT finished yet. Sigh.

Okay, okay let us rewind a bit and here’s FULL DISCLOSURE, about the aftermath of being hit by the Truck of Doom:

White car

– FL in white car survives being hit by the black car as well as the TOD.
– FL is hospitalized,
– Foster mother gives an evil villain speech telling FL to not be so good in next life.
– Ends the speech by turning off FL’s life support. (This is what MIC DROP looks like guys. 👏)
– Then goes out and orders minion to turn it back on (!!??)
– FL dies (we hope!).
– FL is alive (once again ?).
– FL wakes up in bed (at an ungodly time of 08:00 am), with a face mask on her face(!!??)
– And a date on her wrist.

Black car

– Hee, hee, well … we may not really, actually know who was in the black car, but it turned turtle.
Hence and therefore, my always correct, never failing idea💡/ hunch / conspiracy theory / leap of faith off the Cliff of Doom is that it was the ML in the black car WHO DIED in 2023 and may or may not have been similarly transported back to 2022.

Waking up in 2022 FL realizes that the date flashing on her wrist is one year before the accident. Incidentally the day she went to choose her wedding dress.

She goes per usual, slits the perfectly fine dress with a pen, crushes the bouqet on – former life husband, now fiancรฉ’s head, tells him the wedding is off and struts away!! **damn those heels**

So in Episode 2 we see a smarter, more intelligent version 2.0 of the FL return to the house of the people who murdered her because … plot armor is safety enough.

But, lo and behold our FL is not clueless after all and conspires to steal her foster sister’s intended and marry him. She tries to impress him with her business knowledge which is so knowledgeable that even his employees don’t know this knowledge (like really?).

Anywhos ML is game but his grandmother (a former carpenter who built the company), mother (who canโ€™t let m-i-l get the last word) and sister (what does she do beside eating mangoes?) have WORDS. ML’s father does too but I don’t think anyone listens to him.

    – We have a montage of past FL trauma.
    – Current FL gets locked hungry in her room, and then rescued by Prince ML.
    – After her father’s permission the leads are engaged with a placeholder flower.

Now for my favorite part – a round up of Things I Think!

    1. ML was in the black car and died in 2023. In case FL does not do something he may stay dead / die in 2023.

    2. Also, ML knew FL prior to July 2022. How, why? Cue childhood connection, likely in orphanage and maybe FL amnesia.

    3. ML was disappointed when FL did not recognize him in 2023. Obviously he was abroad and when he came back in 2022 FL was getting married and he did not intervene because … Noble Idiocy. Hence and therefore, ML agreed to marry / interact with foster sister to – wait-for-it – stay close to the FL who is his OTL. 😊

    4. FL may be the real Chaebol who evil foster mother adopted to usurp her property / make fake paintings / anything except overflowing with the milk of human kindness.

    5. What I can confidently say in these time slips we will get lots of otp fluffy moments, evil villains scheming and failing with a side of slaps and loud, LOUD talking and exaggerated gestures.

And what do we say when we see a Makjang on Speed … that’s right folks … BRING IT ON!!

I had not thought about the black car driver (or the truck driver… how many of those drivers needs therapy to cope with the trauma of killing literally everything that moves or doesn’t move in the random vicinity of the road?)

In the webtoon, she walks into oncoming traffic and is used as a braking device by the first car. (saves on brake pads, that’s what I say). I have immediately discarded the black car and its driver. But your theory is certainly intriguing.

I want to see more about the date on her wrist and whether anyone else can see it… (or whether the ML also has a date himself?)

Me neither. This is food for thought re: the Black Car.

I still think it was Dunkirk (my name for the ML) on the phone in the hospital tho.

I agree – @seeker your black car theory is fascinating!! The car definitely seemed significant in some way. And the ML really seems to know her already??? Is he stuck in a time loop? Is she?? Has he already known her in a different timeline??? This is only my second (? Third?) drama with Sung Hoon, but he really seems to thrive in these cheesy, makjangy titles – he just must find them fun! And gosh he does the prince charming thing well…

          I’m certainly having fun!!

          6

I’m not sure about multiple time loops … but one never knows.

If it sticks to usual tropes – it will be fun. If it tries to be “original” things can derail faster than you can say K-drama trope. 😀

That is a pretty huge clock in the poster and the leads standing in front of it means “time” has a significant role to play. Whether just one time slip of multiple loops is to be seen.

Hahaha…no. As much as he is good looking and can make romance look swoony, guy can’t act much. He keeps getting these roles that fulfill women’s fantasy.

@Elinor This should answer your question. Watch him only for the pretty and kisses.

@emsel sounds legit. I have only seen Sung Hoon in Noble, My Love and My Secret Romance and no one can accuse him of any acting in those.

            0

Oh I love the time loop idea! He really seems to know her from whenever, but she doesn’t recall him. If he was in the black car when she had her accident it wouldn’t really fit that he approached her *before* the accident happens. But if he was in a time loop it might, and this might be what he tries to break it and make her aware. Maybe even driving the black car in the accident was intentional. Oh the speculations, such fun! 🤗🤯🙃

Watching the drama is fun but all the related hullabaloo and specially the speculation makes it more fun since
            – Beanies get to pit their wit against makjang writers, and
            – it is best use of Beanies collective knowledge of drama watching.

Dammit, you guys, I’m going to have to try this. And I HAVE NO TIME FOR THIS NONSENSE!

Ah, who am I kidding, there’s always time for nonsense. Thanks to (I think) @seeker‘s mention of an abs show yesterday, I found plenty of time to speed-scroll through ep. 1 of Noble, My Love (which I’d never even heard of) for said show, although it was a little disappointing that the aforementioned abs were covered in blood for half the scenes. The gif above is much nicer. Anyway. Guess I know what I’m doing after work tonight. said in sneering sarcastic middle-schooler voice Thanks a lot!

@Elinor the Noble, My Love gif was for the benefit of people who might have read my comment in the Hangout. 😀

Hope you enjoy your fun / scroll through “nonsense” dramas. Acts as a wonderful reparation for **cough My Dearest cough**.

Also what are your views on the conspiracy theories.

            0

@seeker Your “ML died” theory sounds completely reasonable (as much as something in a context so completely unreasonable can) and since I don’t give a flip about spoilers for this, I’ll watch with that in mind to look for confirmation.

If Sung Hoon gets a swimming scene, I will know I have died and gone to heaven. Those make me laugh so hard. I don’t know if he does them anymore, though.

OK, I have now watched eps 1 and 2 and this is terrible and I am ALL IN. I see that runaway train, heading straight for the broken bridge (but not before it gets to the girl tied to the track) and I CAN’T WAIT. This is going to be an epic wreck. Sleep, who needs it?

That date is the cherry on top of this drama. Did I see that right? A digital time stamp in the old style alarm clock way? A light randomly flashing across it? I love it. Will they ever explain it? No guarantee. It wouldn’t be a makjang if there weren’t plot holes galore. But the ML having it would be brilliant. It would explain his knowing ways (no, not those knowing ways!) with her. It would introduce a whole lot of complications tho (but see the plot hole exemption care above).

        2

There were lingering shots of FL “looking” at the black car, but we could not see anyone inside.

Then after getting hit by the TOD the black car rolled over pretty badly.

In 2022 it does not seem that the ML has also transported back, but he does seem to know her from earlier. Also he may be able to see the date on her wrist.

This might be my most eagerly anticipated weekend drama now. Sorry, My Dearest โ€” you can win all the awards โ€” but sometimes I just want to watch something fun, you know?

Thereโ€™s an art to being so bad itโ€™s good, and so far this drama is nailing it.

Everything is so hyper and OTT. It is an acquired taste but I am having fun and do glad that you are too!
So what do you think about the (conspiracy) theories above? 😀

        3
        1

Definitely on board with FL birth info being of significance. No way her adoptive mother wouldโ€™ve taken her in otherwise โ€” they could afford a nanny. Itโ€™d be delicious if both ML and FL were time traveling. I hadnโ€™t given too much thought before to the black car but your theory is intriguing and would up the stakes if FLโ€™s quest determines MLโ€™s survival too. Looking forward to finding out how he knows her from before as he clearly โ€œfell firstโ€ even though she canโ€™t remember. Somehow this show has the secret sauce of watchability. And Iโ€™m grateful.

      Had to look up OTL.
Found it was Korean slang for “Brought to his/her knees from despair and diappointment”.

      @seeker
Hi, thank you for the side chats here & thinking, sharing out loud with us!!
OMG, I am caught up to epsidode 8. Why do we have to wait 7 days to get new episodes ๐Ÿ™
And I am soo on track with these possible theories.
      1. I totally agree both out FL and ML had to have been in the original TOD accident. Though [script writer /directors], I really think it is unfair to keep us in the dark for 8 episodes on how he got to go back as well.
It is pretty clear ML knows FL before both first meets. ML is aware of limited time, when he asks “how long does she have?” when writing the contract. We know DoGuk loves her “more than he can say” but, not knowing how far back that goes back is agony. It could have been hinted, thus far with a tiny sliver of a flash back for him. I think ML is more cognizant of his limited time, his goal to save FL, treasure their shared time. The time stamp was a shared distraction & totally unexpected but worth it. I am still in NEED & waiting for his truth reveal.

      2. FL is picking up her courage and “smarts” faster now. Pretty sure she has already total fallen for him, but hasn’t admited it to herself. She is learning to trust her husband and believe his heart. I love that she has won over the ladies of TaeJa group,… but it would be helpful to have more insightful dialogue building the relationship with SIL and connecting to the friend / cousin/ writer.

      3. I hope the teacher does actually line up as FL parent lost in the fire.
      4. UGH, the villians / antagonists have so may landmines laid out already… how are they going to wrap them up in the 4 remaining episodes? I get plots and subplots… but really too many is not helping.

I need a strong focus and line up for their happy marriage as well as served revenge*.
Especially when we are still waiting for ML conecting story line. And I am trying to resist downloading all the webtoons to satisfy my curiosity and disappointment. Well, I can go back and rewatch for any missed snippets or imagery that might play untill the weekend.

You are all so good at guessing/having theories! (I was puzzled why nobody was commenting on that black car till now 😁)

Hee hee … too much time spent on too many dramas make one a walking talking conspiracy theorist.
Honestly, there are many more Beanies much more experienced.

In case you are interested in Castaway Diva‘s debate on who is Ki-ho (also known as Team N vs Potato Boy) we had a fun time on @GhostofTim ‘s Fanwall theorizing theories. Too much fun!!

        But thanks for the invitation!

That black car is confirm the ML. Him exclaiming, “Yi Joo” was dead giveaway.

The grandfather seems to know something or have something to do with “Yi Joo” parents.

Also, if you are adding webtoon spoiler, please warn me. I don’t want spoilers of webtoon, but am all in for theories.

Iโ€™m reading to satisfy my curiosity. But then, even if we want to add webtoon spoilers, thereโ€™s no telling in which direction the drama will go. They donโ€™t follow one-to-one the source material 🤷🏻‍♀️

        1

Reading the webtoon is good. Personally I’m happy to discuss it. It can only go two ways:

          1. We’ll love the webtoon and trash the drama choices.

          2. Increase our perspective by making webtoon vs drama comparisons.

I feel perhaps it would be more informative to take the second path.

Or else we can just enjoy the wild drama ride.

From the amount of story jammed into these 2 episodes, I’m guessing it may be perhaps 10-12 chapters of the webtoon.
