A Cloud of Thoughts on Episodes 4-6
I’m trying to figure out what the real stakes of this drama are. Apart from (surprise!!!) seeing Woo Do-hwan’s naked torso…all the way down to his lower pelvis ridge—which, don’t get me wrong, may be sufficient stakes for watching—something tells me that this mystery is being pulled along by other forces that aren’t quite clear to me (and that might not ever grab me). Like, when they were looking for Lee Mi-ran in that small town, they kept “realizing things” behind the words they were saying, but I couldn’t tell what they were…nor, unfortunately, did I care all that much.

I mean, with, say Stranger, there was a clear sense that the audience was being kept in the dark about any number of things and there were gonna be twists and turns we couldn’t imagine. I’m gathering that something similar is being attempted here, but I’m not anticipating success on that score, somehow? I mean, it seems pretty darn clear who the good and bad guys are, and I’d be SUPER surprised if there were any major plot twists in terms of character development. They might suddenly add people, I suppose…but am I delusional??

However, as one of the side plots, they do keep trying to make the young kids a couple, and that’s a fine move. I mean we can all empathize with how hard it would be to resist WDH’s, um, charms. I could definitely get behind being interested in watching Ha-ri express both her feelings of “father-figure” tenderness towards Kang-woo and her sexual attraction towards Min-joon…that could hold my attention for that part of the drama, I bet. I could also definitely get behind watching Kang-woo slowly becoming a real, bonafide hyung-figure to Min-joon–male relationships like that are my catnip.

I suppose I’m saying, I doubt that it’s going to be the main plot that keeps me watching, unlike what the drama probably wants. 🤭 It’ll be stuff like the relationships–and talking to y’all!!!

More scenes like this would help though, wouldn’t they?

Ok, first of all, I’m trying not to be shallow, but those scenes (*immortalized in your excellent gifs*) made me sit up and take notice and say yes, I’m in it TO WIN IT with this drama; I’ll follow Min Joon/Woo Do Hwan on his journey. The plot?… not so long ago, I read through the recaps when I was trying to decide if/when to watch this. I’m wondering if I’d be following the plot with more gusto now if I didn’t have the vague outlines of the plot in mind, plus some of the spoilers. However, it really doesn’t matter at this point, because (A) I just want to watch and listen to Woo Do Hwan Act, and (B) I want the “ML” to come down off of his high horse and be a hyung to Min Joon. And I think I’m going to get both. Loved your writeup, Seon-ha!!

      Consider me “shook” !!

Thank you our in-house Google who never forgets – 🌼 🌱 Seon-ha 🌱 🌼 – for digging through the Dramabeans Archives and presenting carefully curated gems 💎 💎 💎 💎 from the days of yore.

I now fully, completely, absolutely and in no uncertain terms understand (not that I ever doubted or questioned earlier) how and why is Sicarius “The Queen”. 🔥 🔥

**bobbing curtsies** to the Queen as well as her noble knight Seon-ha.

      🙇‍♀️   ♾  🙇‍♀️

      One way ticket  🎟  to board the ❤ Min-ri ❤ ship 🚢 ⚓  please.

As it is the only time one was paying any kind of attention to the plot was the somehow old-as-time yet feels mint-fresh banter of the Min-ri couple … but now … after reading the actual “plot” 🤯

      Wow … just wow!! 👏 👏 👏

Although I was eager to join the Mad Dog watch, I was little tardy watching and even tardier commenting. I even tried to get Hopeful to drop this in favour of The Legend of the Blue Sea.

      *smh in disbelief*

However, Hopeful swiftly and rightly shut that down … thank you. I can’t believe I was so late to this party … 😢 but better late than never, heh!

All my comments / thoughts about episodes 4-6 have flown out of the nearest window. Will try posting something later if and when I am able to gather my wits.

Till then thank you for sharing … in this case old is definitely gold. 🏅

        @attiton @dncingemma @Elinor @HopefulRomantic @sicarius

While the drama is plodding along just fine … it is the Min-ricouple fan-fic by sicarius, fan videos (from the days of yore) and the brand new gifs (… now with voice) by Seon-ha that are elevating this drama watch.

Seems the (off-screen) fun will be more memorable than the drama itself. 😆

        Here are few comments:

        Episode 4

        a. Looks like Boem-joon (elder brother) was also abandoned by the aunt who “adopted” him and was raised in an orphanage. Hmm, I’m feeling rather sorry for him now. He too struggled, worked hard to become a pilot, searched for his little brother for years and when he finally found him was spurned by Min-joon.

        b. Ooh … Ha-ri’s Sharon Stone impression and Min-joon’s reaction to it … heh! So now Secret Agent Kim Min-joon in black suit and glasses is back. “If I seem stupid, they let their guard down.” Aniya, aniya… he looks super cool. And don’t his glasses have a hidden camera or something.

        c. Ah ha – gif time – 🤣 Does he need to change in front of her … pfft.

        d. Do-hwan ssi … you are speaking German … with that voice … oooh 🔥

        e. Do I care what the baddies are up to … time to exercise 💪 😅 let’s FF.

        f. Kabedon by Ha-ri … okay, then … and the way Min-joon moves his face closer “I’ll look forward to it.” … and slips under her arm, ha ha ha. So was it melo,  suspense, thriller!

Min-joon is playing with her. Ha-ri has already shown us that she is capable of using her sex appeal to intimidate people and he is using her trick back on her !! Her confused, slightly shocked and bewildered expressions are so much fun. 😳 🤣

The way he escapes her kabedon, offers to sleep on the floor so that she can take his bed, tells her a legit sob story but laughs it off and then his eyes as he turns away !! Hmm .. Do-hwan ssi is in full form for this episode.

        h. Min-joon is playing with the entire Mad Dog team … I like how he’s calm in the face of all insults hurled at him by the team and still gets himself invited to eat with the.

        i. The science of burning the car with that award seems dodgy.

        j. The story seems to have started only now.

          Episodes 5-6

          – Omo … that insurance agent lady is alive.

          – Omo … what is Sung-hoon doing with Chaebol Tie.

          – I like this resourceful old friend of Kang-woo who makes coffee, goes dancing and plays ping-pong. Also arranges for the rat-in-the-lab hijinks for Min-joon, ha ha ha.

          – The drama is making us suspect Park Moo-shin, Kang-woo’s colleague in Taeyang Insurance but I’m more suspicious of that policeman with the sick child.

          – Min-joon imagining his elder brother calling him, which was in fact Kang-woo was a nice touch – even though the symbolism felt little heavy handed. Nevertheless, hope this is the start of Kang-woo – Min-joon bromance.

          – 😭 no, no, that’s not me crying seeing Kim-Beom trying to communicate with Min-joon in German. Also Do-hwan’s eyes speak volumes. 😭 😭

          – Tee hee … Min-joon’s pre-planned “meet cute” with the Taeyang heiress and Ha-ri’s reaction to him.

          – At the midnight secret rendezvous, something about the way Woo Do-hwan shines the torch on his [brother’s (!)] watch make the gesture swoony … wonder if there is a “handy” gif somewhere … 🤔

          – Shining torch light in the perp’s eyes is such a good idea … how many lives of Mujin residents could be saved in Behind Your Touch!

In the 6 episodes till now only Woo Do-hwan scenes are what stay in mind … say 1/3 of the viewing experience (?) … more please.

I’m really enjoying this fun watch thanks to all of you … hope to join you sooner this week. 😉

Looking forward to Legend of the Blue Sea. I’m sure my fondness of the drama will increase substantially with the community watch.

And, here’s my promised Mad Dog–>Destined with You crossover gif! When I first saw the shaman making this gesture with her hands, I sat up pointed at the screen and said “Woo Do-hwan! Woo Do-hwan!” I think that part was just an excuse to shout his name, but whatever. I then continued, “It’s that hand gesture to maintain your mental acuity!!” I mean how silly of me, but hey, truth can be stranger than fiction 😁

Unstructured Thoughts about Mad Dog…*spoilers to follow*
    Ep. 4
-Woo Do Hwan is mesmerizing. My golden ratio would be 90% him, 10% everyone/everything else.
-Woo Do Hwan flirting is an exciting new development. Moar please.
    Ep. 5
-OMO PARK SUNG-HOON IS BACK – is this round two of psycho vibes? (*But this predates Psychopath Diary, so I guess that makes this round one*).
    – WHY does everyone keep blaming Woo Do Hwan like his brother’s actions are his fault? That makes me mad.
-OH MY GOSH Woo Do Hwan nooo!! Park Sung Hoon has got the whole psycho eyes thing down. Good grief that cliffhanger.
-Min Joon’s hallucination of his brother was unexpectedly affecting.
    Ep. 6
-The car exploded! And there goes their lead. What happened to that lady’s son? And who is his father??
-I legitimately can’t remember if this bad guy reveal is something we already knew, a new development, or something I read in spoilers.
-WHAT? Why do they want to kill Min Joon so badly? Is he too close to the truth?
-“Kim Min Joon looks pretty good” lol my thoughts exactly.
-Meet at midnight? Oooh that sounds like a trap. At least the “good guys” followed him to the sketchy warehouse. More Sung Hoon crazy eyes.
-WOW. Sketchy lawyer taking care of business? That did surprise me. Does this drama almost qualify as a bit makjang-y?
-HE RAISED THE CONTROLS. I gasped even though I knew this was going to be the case.

    2
    2

I legitimately can’t remember if this bad guy reveal is something we already knew, a new development, or something I read in spoilers.

LOL This is me with every “plot reveal!!” Did I already know that? I thought I knew that? Had I guessed that? I haven’t read any of the weecaps here, so I’ve got no “I read a spoiler” excuse even!!

      2
      1

HAHA🤣 Honestly, that’s how I’m reacting to every plot point at this stage… it’s almost like drama deja vu?? “Did I already know this??” 🙈 Also – I didn’t mention in my post, but the music is actually kind of distracting – I think the ratio of brass instruments to everything else is too much. Numbers was heavier on strings and more symphonic in general, which I preferred.

        2
        0

I knew Park Sung-hoon was a baddie in this but I didn’t expect him to get snuffed out so early in the drama. Now what will they do to replace that psycho energy? Because Choi Won-young (Hyun-ki the inadequate airline VP) and his pretentious tie stylings and his ugly haircut are not doing it for me.

      4
      1

Wow almost word for word exactly what I said, that IS hilarious.

I’m disappointed in myself I can barely remember PSHs role in this now, but in my defence I can barely remember any of this show that ISN’T Hari and Minjoon so…

        4
        1

😂 I’m *only* watching this because you hyped Ha-ri and Min-joon so much here and there recently. But seriously, when PSH died I thought it would be a fakeout because he does such a *good* bad, so when he’s confirmed to be DEAD dead I was all “Nooooo!”

Having had far too many close looks at CWY’s ties, I can see that the shirt collars are actually cut to allow the neckband of the tie to pass through in two places, meaning, someone put time and effort into doing this *on purpose.* I’ve never seen anything like it. Were they something the costume dept. came up with? The actor’s own clothes? PPL for some brand that mercifully did not catch on?

I classify this as a rabbit-hole rather than a nit-pick and therefore OK.

          3
          3

I feel like so much of it is that both Ryu Hwa Young and Woo Do Hwan are very charming actors, and easily have chemistry with themselves, their co stars, the wall, a rock on the wayside. And so when they were told “fight flirt with each other for 16 hrs”, you could hardly have picked two more competent people for that if you tried.
(Do I have a “People who Could Flirt With A Rock” list? Yeah.)

I have NO memory of these ties but I am cackling at this rabbit hole 🤣

            5
            0

@sicarius there’s literally video evidence of Woo Do Hwan having chemistry with dirt in Joseon Attorney, so I’m with you 100% here 😂 If this WAS 16 hours of fight-flirting, I couldn’t be any happier (alas…)

            4
            0

@hopefulromantic I know! I watched that whole show just for that! Hahaha

You’re right, that was a misspeak on my part; their scenes do not alas Tally up to the whole shows length nor are they on screen all the time. Alas!

            3
            0

So wild seeing this be a thing like 6 years after airing when waiting it airing with the beanie wall then was also just as fun and lead to SO many shenanigans lol.

The plot in this is all over the place but this show forever has my top Crack Ship to End all Crack Ships. I will never not be Hari x Minjoon trash 🤣

    3
    1

That first car fire – the one in which Lafora Guy was killed: hmmmm. A convex surface like that big metal thing on the side of a building would scatter, not focus a light beam.

I’m in danger of going down that path of nitpicking everything that doesn’t add up and then WDH appears on my screen and everything adds up.

    3
    2

I know. I know. I totes FF the scenes with the “plot” now. I mean they usually summarize it later and/or I can actually pick up the inanity with the three frames of action I see.

But then I do the thing where I over-shoot, and skip a part with WDH, and have to go back. It’s actually with Mad Dog that I’ve been noticing that it’s taking me longer than the run time to watch each show because of this habit AND NO ITS NOT THAT I REWATCH ALL THE WDH SCENES OVER AND OVER. Actually, it’s not. Except the one in the shower, and that was for the gifs. Oh, and the one where he takes off his clothes and looks becomingly over his shoulder, because also…gifs. It was for you all.

      3
      0

I know this is rich coming from me of all people, but don’t nitpick for this show. It’s much more fun if you don’t nitpick.

Generally speaking, if a character makes you want to punch them… then they’re well written and well acted character hahaha

    [Source]

Question (Dunno if it’ll get answered or not or if it already has and I missed it): BUT UHM Why is KMJ’s appartment suddenly magically furnished again with all his secret stuff as well, after him leaving last episode to find Mi Ran??? Do you have random ninja movers who do stuff for you when you’re unconscious with a head wound, KMJ? Also shouldn’t you have a bloody concussion from that and not be driving? (not that you’d listen anyway)

    [Source]

YES! Like, [Park Sung-hoon] was creepy and good at what he did, seems like a waste of a character for me. Cos he really is a psycho. I was actually disappointed that they killed him off so easily. I felt it was super unfair (even if he is a serial killer). Especially to die so unrealistically.
Yeah, fill that void with a boring lawyer character who doesn’t really have give for me at all

I did really like the focus on family in this episode though, between Min Joon and Kang Woo- how they have no family, but they’re slowly becoming each others’ family, albeit reluctantly sometimes.
Just, stop being such angsty, hurting munchkins, and support each other properly, pls. You both need it 😉

Omy gosh the amount of fan vids I’ve watched of those two [Ha-ri and Min-joon]… *which is like the same 5 minutes over and over again…* *I’m in so deep*

Such a good episode. Was quite impressed that so far in it was relatively strong! Don’t let me too down on the last two episodes show PLEEASE.

I’m so glad Min Joon gave Noo Ri that talk, instead of getting angry at him *like any other less well written or acted character would’ve*
Also that end talk was really lovely *even if WDH’s collar bones were super distracting*
Also I kinda like Hyun Ki. Even if he is evil, he’s deliciously evil. 😉

That bromance bed scene though *wow that’s a line that I just typed hahahaha*
No but really, such a sweet moment. I love that he said he’d beat up MJ for Ha Ri, like any good younger brother, but also that he’d fight for MJ too, like any good younger brother 😛

Also, why isn’t there a warning label for WDH’s collarbones yet?

    [Source]

You know, this show wasn’t perfect, and some of the plot holes are still jumping up in down in lime green leotards right in front of me, but if I turn then there’s all our sweet characters, and cast chemistry and lines with the word ‘hyung’ in them, and that gorgeously tension filled restaurant scene that will have to do for my confession since a) the show’s ended and b) t’would’ve been a mite out of character to have anything more between those two.
I wouldn’t have been complaining if there had been more ofc, but this feels very in sync with the rest of the show.

Lime green leotards aside, I had a lot of fun watching and reacting with Beanies to this show, and thank you for the recaps!

Yo @attiton, help me out. I tried to put a gif from episode 7 at the top of a fanwall post. There’s a PERFECT one here: https://www.tumblr.com/mymerchantii/172663965666/woo-do-hwanmad-dog?source=share

… but I cannot for the life of me get it to show up here on DB. It works perfectly on the w3schools test site, but no matter which link/embed HTML code I use, it shows here either as a broken image or just the URL. Is it the Tumblr gif itself? Am I an idiot?

The original scene starts at about 51:30 in ep. 7. I have made a gif exactly once in my life and I don’t remember how 😆, although it wasn’t that long ago. Attempting to screen-record from Viki makes Very Bad Things happen to my Viki account, so I must have gone to a darkside site but it’s all a blur. Any suggestions? I did look at your immensely helpful and detailed post on using Imgur.

    TL;DR: halp!

Here’s the syntax for the gifs on tumblr. First with angled brackets, second with square brackets.

Yay!!! Thanks! I must not have been finding/choosing the right link to copy, as the URL you have there is different from any of the ones I tried. It looks like you right-clicked each image and copied the address, whereas I kept trying the links from the “share” buttons on the Tumblr post. Right? Duh. Truly, THANKS!

Y’all, I did it anyway. Call it a technical challenge, because that’s honestly how it started. I wanted to know if I could make the loop that I saw hidden in the original gif…but then when it sort of worked, I realized. Ooops. That actually worked. He just sits there and breathes.
