Gearing up to go back to work after the long weekend. Here’s some Sung Hoon pics with his company’s dogs. If they had dogs at my workplace, I’d be so excited to go every day! Also, having Sung Hoon there wouldn’t hurt. 😜
I came to the realization the other day that I laugh like this now, meaning I seal clap when I\’m laughing. I also realized, to my horror, that nobody else does this here. Now I\’m self-conscious about laughing. 😐
It\’s been approximately 21.5 hours since I\’ve decided to stop eating junk food, and now people are starting to look like giant walking Snickers bars to me. Let\’s see how long this lasts.
Hang in there for one week. The insane craving will go away suddenly. It will leave you weak and defeated but at least it will get easier from then on.
Don’t give up. Have something healthy when you are craving. Like have some banana with raw honey when you crave for something very sweet.
Just get creative with your cooking and you will find all this so satisfying when you finally ditch the bad habits.
I just watched The Great Show on Viki and was pleasantly surprised it was already 100% subbed, even though the first half of the show had a lot of political terminology. I don\’t know if Viki\’s helping the subbers out or if they\’re just a team of Super Subbers. Either way, 👍!
Show was good, by the way, and not 90 minutes, which is a plus.
I know this sounds biased but I really liked Sung Hoon’s character, An Dante. (Just for reference, I didn’t like his characters in Noble, My Love and Secret Romance in the first half of each drama where he was an ass.) Dante was precise and blunt and realistic, but at the same time warm-hearted and oddly optimistic and charmingly weird. His philosophy was to try to create a win-win situation for everyone as much as possible. I liked that he got into the company with not-great specs and worked his way up. I liked that his company went in and saved other companies, rather than break them down and sell for a profit, as is what usually happens in the corporate world.
I really like his journey in making peace with his family, dealing with his grief for his father, who he didn’t have a good relationship with when he died, and accepting his step-brother as family. I looove a good bromance. His frenemy relationship with Danny Ahn’s character was also great.
I did like the development of the relationship between Dante and Yeonhwa, but felt maybe the ending where they got together was a bit forced (although the hilarious car chase made it worth it!).
The funny parts were SO funny, and the touching parts (omigosh, I sobbed so hard when he was burying Monkey) were great also.
What I didn’t like was the writing of the female leads. There were a lot of times where I didn’t like Yeonhwa’s character, and was starting to get annoyed at her constant crying in the first half. I felt she was sometimes combative when she didn’t need to be (e.g. the very first scene).
The second female lead started off so well, I was so disappointed when she turned out a typical second female lead. She did predictably redeem herself at the end.
Baro’s character was neither here nor there, I felt.
Overall, though, I liked the story and the writing. There was no “I’m falling in love with you even though there’s no reasonable evidence that I should, just because we’re the leads in this drama” and no noble idiocy. It was mostly about An Dante’s and Joybuster’s journey and the development and release of the video game. It was a fun and easy watch.
Agreed! I really liked Sung Hoon here as well – he plays slightly off-kilter characters well. He really goes all in with the full body comedy, which makes such a difference. I mentioned this before, but I really liked that his emotional journey was his journey and was focused entirely on learning to open up to people and wasn’t reliant on the female lead making him want to be a better person, because I’m so over that. I think the title really refers to the way he leveled up in being a person – he may have had the specs on paper to be an ideal guy, but he didn’t have the emotional capacity to connect with people on a deep level.
Also, this show was funny, I found myself laughing out loud several times, which was great. (I was crying when they got stuck on the chairs because of the rat.) I think the extended cast (the management team and the Joy Buster employees) were great and I would have liked to see a little more of them. I do wish the female lead were better written and second female lead was less generically crazy, but it was tolerable for a shorter drama.
Oh yes to the rat scene. It was so hilarious.
So was his drunk scene calling her mom.
There really were some laugh out moments in this drama.
And Director Park (Danny Ahn) was hilarious as well.
I was in stitches watching the drunk scene. It was just too funny – especially when he flopped around while she was trying to get him up. And the second time when he bought a selfie-stick and recorded everything he did was even funnier.
I Live Alone this week showed Sung Hoon\’s new puppy, Yanghee, which he adopted from a shelter after fostering her for a month. So cute!
At the end of the episode, he asked that people don\’t abandon their pets.
Yoon Kyunsang has also mentioned this — he asked that people don\’t get pets unless they seriously count the cost first. Especially in Korea, pets are a trend now, but people don\’t think about what they\’re signing up for when they get a pet and end up abandoning them. My soft-hearted aunt in Korea has adopted multiple dogs who were abandoned, but there are countless more out there. 😢
I went back and saw that scene quickly.
In Busan, he does mention he will give her his answer and she says don’t because she wants to be in vacation mood longer.
Also after the kiss, in the car, she asks him why he is not angry. He says he thought of all possible reactions and none of those were pretty.
And he leaves.
So I guess she knew from day one and he was as clear as he could be without telling it to her face.
I don’t think he tried to date her. He made it pretty clear in the 1st ep that he wasn’t interested in her romantically, but she kept trying to force it. I think he genuinely likes and respects her and wants to keep her as a friend, so he’s not cutting off contact completely, but sometimes that’s what some of the denser people need.
