Beanie level: The Goblin’s underpants

Day 10: favorite Director

Guillermo Del Toro. To me he’s the master of story telling and making things dark but not grim.

Interesting…I wonder what kind of scene that will be? I thought they hadn’t seen each other since they were kids? Or will it just be individual flashbacks to their high school years to further develop their backstories?

Day 8: a movie that made you sad

This one really hit hard. Gong Yoo and Jung Yu Mi has the best chemistry thanks to their repeating collaboration.
I don’t think I can watch it with my mother….

10

This hits too close to home. I don’t think any woman could not relate with it.

    2
    1

I wish there wasn’t many woman who would be touched by the story. Unfortunately society is shaped in such way that my wish can’t be granted. At least She had a husband who was supporting, understood his fault in the tragic events and tried to help her. South Asian males are still in the dark speaking from what I see around me.

      3
      2

It was hard to read but it is a must read. Now I just need to find out where to watch this.

        1
        1

I’m finding where to read it. I don’t enjoy reading but I would love to read this one. I saw the movie on drama c*ol but the subs were bad and I would never recommend anyone to watch there. I understood most of the movie because of what little korean I know through dramas. I could tell that’s not what they’re saying and what exactly are they saying. So I did understand the movie by those subs because the dialogues weren’t that tough to understand but that was still not a great experience.

          1
          0

I see what you mean I’m from SA too. But when this movie was released in South Korea the audience they found it surprising that even the husband was this supportive. So he was an anomaly there too. The writer probably made the husband a nice (which honestly why am I calling him why when he did rhe bare minimum that everyone should be doing) or supportive because otherwise it would have been a totally negative outlook (since there was so much hate on this sinple book and then movie despite the husband being nice because people thought this feminist piece was wrong and against men, I think the writer chose the safe route by making the male main character unlike the society) which imo IS the life of several women. I think this movie is universal. It isn’t a one size fits all and not everyone would be able to relate with each and everything in the movie, but I’m sure every woman can relate to something or even one thing shown in the movie. It is such a simple movie but it is such a remarkable potrayal of women suffering and sacrifices that you realise that what we do in our day to day lives isn’t ordinary or simple or even normal.

        1
        1

The simplicity of the movie really conveyed the message. And although the husband’s character doesn’t reflect the majority but I was thankful they showed him like a supportive husband. That ought to poke the men and open their eyes to see the things they do wrongly and the things they should do to repent.

Kim Soo Hyun visual appreciation post:
Didn’t even see his face until the nth rewind cause both my eyes were fixated on was those blurry arms folded under his head. I blame the rain for making me want to write a poem about their beauty. But I am already marked by my family at this point, don’t want intervention from them now. I am psycho but it’s okay.
Here’s the moment that must be relished besides the ‘abs’thetic scenes we have gotten so far…

Seeing the teasers for \’Records of youth\’ ached my heart\’s. Also I\’m enraged as to how and why Jang Ki Yong chose born again over this one. The model role/premise was perfect for him!! 😭

Day 5: favorite drama movie – My Left Foot

Day 4: favorite suspense/horror film

Without any doubt Psycho

The king of the suspense genre Alfred Hitchcock was introduced to me through The birds, but won me over with psycho.

Day 3: favorite action/adventure film

I love Mission Impossible franchise and how well acted the action scenes are. I can\’t choose one from the franchise though.

Day 2: favorite fantasy movie
Pan’s labyrinth/El laberinto del fauno, (lit. ‘The Labyrinth of the Faun’)

I have been amazed, baffled, muted and mesmerized by this film since 2011 over and over again. Watched it again this year on Netflix and I realized I always find something new in the movie. The layered fantastical world will always be my favorite fairy tale.

My love and respect for Guillermo Del Toro increased 100 times after watching this masterpiece.

You can never go wrong with Cary Grant (or Gregory Peck).

Psycho is my favorite. What’s your favorite?

Until my teenage it was the birds but now it is Rear Window. It took me much effort to pick a favorite Hitchcock but at the end I found the answer in Rear window.

I loved this movie. I went to see it at one of those movies in the park one summer evening. It was so fun. Picnic and bubbly champagne while watching.

I thought rewatching MLFAS would take my mind away from the IOTNBO ep4\’s issues which restarted my issues, but I was wrong MLFAS didn\’t do much. Then suddenly I found myself rewatching Hannibal season 1. Hannibal is yet to be beaten by any US production regarding the crime genre.

Hannibal was a work of Art…Bryan Fuller was great in making it a standalone series without getting Clarice….I hate MGM….if they only gave the rights to him and NBC

    1
    1

I’m actually glad NBC couldn’t get the rights. I’m relived that it ended at season 3. It couldn have been just one season and I wouldn’t have minded much. Every aspect of Hannibal was perfected

      0
      1

I really wanted to see Bryan Fuller make his version of Silence of The Lamb…I followed him dince Pushing Daisies and Wonderfalls…IONTBO gives me a bit of Pushing Daisies vibe to be honest

        0
        0

I honestly believe that the show kind of fell apart after season two. Characters behaved in ways that made little sense.

    1
    1

Yes and yes! Especially after S3E3 it seemed a tamed and confused version of the series I have been watching until then. Even the killers in the first season had more background story, perception and psychoanalysis than the red dragon who had almost the entire S3 with little light on his story. I know the cancellation must have been a factor for such weird turn of narration. But one thing I would give credit for is the continuation of the cinematic and dramatic value until the last episode. And now that I am rewatching, I am considering whether S3 seemed incoherent compared to the previous ones because the ringmaster was just watching from distant. All the chaos in Will’s world happened in S1+2 cause he wanted to know who he was, he came to know what he was and Hannibal finally saw a possible companion in Will. But when Will had enough understanding of himself and refused to be a ‘friend’ of Hannibal things calmed down to something that seemed boring to us.

my former bias and ex member of monsta X, Wonho has announced his fandom name. The English spelling is wenee but Korean spelling of it is 위니, pronounced as wee-nee. Which led to Gi Do\’s teenie weenie, which led to Moon Young nicknaming him as 아담 which led me to believe it was a very bad choice for wonho\’s fandom name.

Today’s IOTNBO episode hit harder than yesterday’s jab at being a care-giving family member to an ill/child with special needs/gifted/handicapped member. I guess because I felt all three children’s pain today. Because I wanted to scream the same thing in the same way at that Politician. Because I have actually said that multiple times in my life.

Once again I accept that the writers \’wrote\’ a story and it\’s a fiction which necessarily does not need to be THAT much meaningful or associated with life changing revelations. But I guess as Go Moon Young said fairy tales (in this case fiction) tell the grim truth about our reality and teaches us to face them straight on.

I actually wrote a bit more heavy post earlier then just moved it to my personal log because life is hard enough. Dramabeans does not need to be another place to be sorrowful.

Lastly prayers for all the children who were made to be felt useless, who were born to fulfill predetermined roles. And prayers for all to-be-parents who can be better by not turning into birth machines that make \”useful stuffs\’ disguised in the form of their child(ren).

It was so painful to watch Kang Tae deception when he was a child… I understand her mum being utterly worried about SangTae’s future, but it was too painful to see how she didn’t hide the fact that her main concern was that KT never gave up on his brother. Such a terrible burden to place on a child.
I was crying along with KT when he read Zombie Kid.
