The Time I’ve Loved You makes last-minute PD switch

Aw no, I was so looking forward to PD Jo Soo-won taking the helm of The Time I’ve Loved You, 7000 Days (SBS’s remake of In Time With You starring Ha Ji-won and Lee Jin-wook), but a last-minute difference of creative opinion led him to quit the production on May 15.

Jo PD is best known for his SBS hit I Hear Your Voice, and has also directed Pinocchio, Gap-dong, and Alice in Cheongdam-dong, among other dramas. I greatly prefer his collaborations with writer Park Hye-ryun (Voice, Pinocchio) over his other shows, but The Time I’ve Loved You seemed so in his wheelhouse; the change-up makes me sad for what could’ve been.

According to SBS, the disagreement occurred between Jo PD and drama production house I Will Media: “His interpretation of the script didn’t match the production company’s, so PD Jo Soo-won has left the show. There definitely was not any discord.” Um, that just makes me think there definitely was discord, but the official stance seems to be a mutual parting of ways on all sides.

I Will Media’s (or essentially head producer Kim Jong-shik’s) credits include many of dramaland’s early-2000s hits like Winter Sonata, Summer Scent, and I’m Sorry, I Love You. They also produced Full House, which The Time I’ve Loved You’s writer Min Hyo-jung penned.

Jo PD led the show’s script read and pre-production, but shoots haven’t begun yet, which I suppose for continuity’s sake is a plus? Taking his place will be PD Go Jae-hyun, who has a second PD credit on JTBC’s Syndrome, and crew credits on My Happy Home, I Love You, Don’t Cry, and Women of the Sun.

I can’t say that I’m not worried about where this leaves the drama, but at least both parties realized their creative differences and made the change before shoots began; a mid-drama swap is certainly worse by a long shot. Crossing my fingers that the new PD is decent, because I want this drama to make my heart go pitter-patter.

The Time I’ve Loved You, 7000 Days follows Divorce Lawyer in Love in June.

With all the new developments, I'm torn between "at least we still have HJW" and "is it too late for HJW to hightail it out of this big mess?" :(

By the way, everyone (including me) seems to be pointing fingers at SBS but now I'm starting to wonder to which extent SBS is responsible of all that's happened seeing as it's the production company that caused Jo PD to leave. It'd be nice if someone could enlighten us about both the network and production company's roles.

Go watch On Air and King of Drama. I think the production house (I will Media) is the one that we can blame the most...but it is because SBS let it.

With the Full House writer on board and the horrible script changes they made, the only positive thing left was Ha Ji-won and the PD. Now they don't even have one of that. I'm betting the PD wanted to keep the original realistic vibe and SBS wanted more cliches and dramatics. They now lost a great talent; good going SBS!

All I can say is, so glad to have Rain duck out of this one...

It seems like a lot of cliche makjang elements are thrown in. One of the highlights of this drama is the very warm interactions in both families, but now they throw in parent issues, as if we didn't have enough of that else where. They also changed the second lead completely into some chaebol, when the original second lead was a really hot guy that the female lead couldn't get over despite being cheated on for so many tomes.

What..?! What!! Then that's not In Time With You anymore... What's the point of calling it a remake it if they're going to do away the main points?!!

well... the second lead was actually a chaebol in the original drama. That wasn't the focal point, but that was part of the background of his character. In terms of parental drama, there was some drama in the original series though... It will be made to fit the Korean context, obviously, but it doesn't seem like a departure from the original storyline to me

It seems like Jo PD wanted to keep things light? I only really saw Voice but what I really appreciated about that drama was even though there was a serial killer on the loose, the drama never got caught up in the moment. In fact, it was about continuing every day life and not letter the killer win. It was light but not without substance. I really appreciated that drama.

With the media company's and new PD's resume, it seems like they want this drama to go full melo :(

That sucks

Not a fan of his work on Gapdong.

Didn't watched his other works, but I Hear Your Voice and Pinnochio were both really well shot, so i feel like it's definitely a loss. Haven't even heard of the works by PD who replaced him.

My top choice for PD for this drama though would be the one who did That Winter the Wind Blows or the one who did Blade Man, as I really loved the artsy feel in the original drama.

Gawddd. Hope this drama won't be a disappointment. hopefully the love triangle between a chaebol and the two leads won't be bad. I'm pretty much sick of chaebols in the show for the majority of dramas that I've watched. *shivers*

Lol I love how they were like 'There's no discord!! We just argued alot about stuff!!!'

Honestly I have no confidence in this show anyway because the writer hasn't proved herself in anything before. FH is wildly overrated imo. This show basically rides on nuanced writing, and I don't see how she'll deliver that.

This is getting "better and better". The cast is the only thing that is overtly not a cause of concern at this point. Will tune in regardless out of sheer curiosity and nostalgia.

I bet or I am sure he wanted a sensitive portrayal and the production house is going for the makjang and angst.

We would know once the screaming, slapping, silent best friend behaving stupidly instead of having a nice drama to watch.

Da**it.

Same here...I'm guessing the PD was turned off by the dramatic changes in the script. Too bad, this just proves our concerns. And I liked his dramas more than the new PD's. Crossing my fingers here for HJW and LJW!

I have no idea of the contents of the script and I probably shouldn't judge the production company for their track record, this just screams melo. I don't dislike melo. But, really? I think that loose adaptation may be the right term. But I still hope that this'll be a good drama.

Hello all. Genuinely a curious lamb here- What's the hype with Ha Ji-won??

Everyone says she's great and all but I never liked her in any of the shows I've seen, Secret Garden, King 2 hearts and running man. She may be good in action but I don't really like her acting.

My opinion I think she over-acted in king2hearts. Secret garden was just... Not for me. In running man I think she was trying too hard to be cute.

So... If you like Ha Ji-won.. What do you like about her?

if you don't like hjw then u shouldn't be commenting here. I mean I don't go asking at other actor's drama if I am already not into them. I don't lIke her in kings to heart too but that's becos I didn't like the story as a whole and I don't feel the chemistry between the leads. other than that, she is a natural. you are not a fan so u won't know but her real life character is very different from the characters that she has played. She is a very warm, feminine and friendly person off screen.

Hey Feliss , I suggest you watch Empress Ki !
I never disliked HJW but was never a fan of her either until EK.
Its perfect drama for marathon and she steals the show. She gave such a pull to that character and was such a badass that I fist pumped so many times.
She is cool, one of the few actresses who have a strong screen presence !

Hopefully everything will be alright for 7000days. Goodluck team :)

Who is your favorite actress?

Required fields are marked *

I'm a big fan of HJW so I'll try to share why I like her.
My favourite dramas of hers, and the performances in which she got the most critical acclaim for are Damo, Hwang Jini and Empress Ki. Coincidentally, all sageuks, where she shines more (imo).
She was also praised for her performance in What Happened in Bali, but that is a drama which you'll hate or love so I tend not to recommend it.

There's more variety in her movies, though you have to be careful cos she has her fair share of awful movies. Duelist (with Kang Dong Won, sageuk setting) and My Love By My Side (with Kim Myung Min) are my faves.

But some people just cant get into her acting no matter what, so to each his/her own :)

I also love her for her genuinely friendly and warm personality. She always looks so happy and pleased, whether filming or at interviews or at fanmeetings (i've been to one), and her costars always praise her for her energy and good manners.

Why do I like Ha Ji Won? As far as acting she is versatile. As far as action genre, she's a one BADASS lady! I can go on and on about her, but if you simply checkout her "resume" as an actress you'll be surprised. But like any other actors not all their drama are a hit. I specially loved Damo, Hwang Jinyi, Secret Garden, Empress ki, Duelist and a Closer to Heaven. Why I love Ha Ji Won, so far, according to all the people she worked with, I hear nothing but high praises about her, how it is so pleasant to worked with her. Oh did I mention that who ever she worked with (leading men) they ended up getting lots of love and shine even more. See that's the magic with Ha Ji Won, she has chemistry with most of her on screen partner and she shares the limelight. Oh, another thing why I love her. She seems to be down to earth despite of her status as an actress. There are some actress I'm not fond of, since they don't interest me. I don't watch their show or read about them. Just a matter of preference.

Thks for all your sharing!

Yeah I keep reading high praises about her, and I don't know why so many people like her! But okay-- I agree that I haven't watched enough of her shows. Sorry to people who are upset about it, I meant no harm :)

I'll still give 7000 days a try, cos I kinda like the Taiwan plot. I have no doubts that the k-version they'll make the friend-zoned guy cooler.

I have mixed feelings when Ha Ji Won was casted, but maybe, maybe I'll come to like her acting in 7000days. Cheers ^^

How dramatic... Well while you don't seem to like anything about her, I like everything about her and I think HJW is one of the best of her generation and is deserving of all the praise she's getting(both for film and TV). It's really a matter of preference, you don't seem to grasp this notion. Your question is pretentious really, more than anything else.

... I think you're quite easily the one who can't grasp the notion of preference. Also, you're much more pretentious for claiming to know what goes on in someone else's mind.

Seriously, I adore HJW but some of her fans need to sit their ass down and chill. The defensiveness and fan worship is getting too ridiculous.

HUH
Actually no, she expressed her thoughts clearly so I can form an opinion about them. When you basically express a big dislike of a widely loved figure AND wonder why anyone would like her, that's pretentious.
"Fan worship", NO way, please don't go there.

"When you basically express a big dislike of a widely loved figure AND wonder why anyone would like her, that’s pretentious."

No. Thats curiosity. She doesn't get why people like HJW because she doesn't So she very nicely asked why people feels strongly about her. There is nothing pretentious there, its basic curiosity. But you can push for it since you're also one to deny your fan worship.

0

Nope! You have the right to expressed your thoughts and so as everybody else.

She clearly stated that she never liked her on all the shows she have seen her in and continue on that she over acts. I have no problem with that at all, because that's her choice/preference. So out of her "curiosity" she asked why like her? As you can see, some, including me responded to what it is the reason why?

If I'm curios about an actor/actress, I would definitely do a research, just saying.

I liked HJW in Running Man but I'm not a fan of her acting. I think she's okay and at times, she does overact. However, I am generally okay with HJW because the character she plays are likeable.

I like her from her Damo, secrets days. Fell in love with her in Hwang Jin Yi. I liked her very expressive eyes that tells her mood so well. I like how she carries herself in her more harden characters.

I hated her character in secret because she was the bitchy little sister but she was really good. Had such a mean stare.

Unfortunately, I haven't liked her in anything since Hwang Jun Yi, I don't like how she portrays weak characters, it's not convincing.

Her running man appearance, that's actually how she is outside. She just acts naturally like that.

Not liking the latest developments with the PD switch... I really enjoyed "I Hear Your Voice" and "Pinocchio", so I was happy to see Jo PD at the helm of this remake/adaptation. Don't know much about this new PD since I haven't seen any of his works. Let's hope the cast can carry the show.

This is not a good sign, I've really liked PD Jo Soo-won's directorial touches on all 3 of his dramas that I've seen. And I was looking forward to seeing Pinocchio alum Yoon Kyun-sang finally get the step up to second lead.

At least the cast remains unchanged, but I'm dreading that the new PD will pack the drama full of the usual cliches.

Aw, men. I was actually still interested with this show because I like the PD. I have always loved his scenic shots and the way he focuses on expressions and small movements of the actors. I am not all too excited about the two leads, but I loved the majority of the supporting casts who came from Pinocchio. Might still gives this a chance, and I still hope it fares well.
