Park Se-young up for medical mystery Beautiful Mind

It might be a My Daughter Geum Sa-wol reunion for Park Se-young and Yoon Hyun-min, who are both considering secondary roles in KBS’s new medical mystery drama Beautiful Mind. The new Monday-Tuesday series is cutting it really close to the wire with casting, since the drama is due out in June and technically nobody’s signed on; Jang Hyuk (Master of Trade—Inn 2015) and Park So-dam (The Priests, Because It’s the First Time) are being courted to headline, but no one’s finalized yet.

Beautiful Mind comes from the writer of Sungkyunkwan Scandal and the PD of Dream High 2, and tells the story of a neurosurgeon who’s brilliant as a doctor, but lacking empathy and emotion due to a frontal lobe injury. He gets caught up in a mysterious case when his patients start dying off, and the drama is about solving the mystery, as well as his growth as a doctor. The heroine will open his eyes to love and change him, even though I have no clue how this is possible if he feels no feelings.

Yoon Hyun-min is considering a role as the villain, a cardiothoracic surgeon who is the very opposite of Jang Hyuk’s character. He’s trusted and well-liked by his patients and colleagues, which hides his duplicitous nature. Park Se-young is up for the role of a neurosurgery fellow, a smart, beautiful researcher in the department who’s at the top of her field.

There’s no indication that she’s evil or anything, but after playing the evil second lead in My Daughter Geum Sa-wol, I wonder if it’s expected of her now. I like Park Se-young and don’t want her to be typecast as evil forever, but as long as she’s doing it well, there’s no reason not to have some fun with it. So far the cast is looking great… that is, if any of these people sign on.

Beautiful Mind follows Neighborhood Lawyer Jo Deul-ho in June.

Well, now that I'm liking the (possible) cast so much I am starting to become more optimistic (or very skeptical if they all turn it down). After all, this is the writer of Sungkyunkwan Scandal and I loved that. The premise of that was so much more my thing though...

agree..i like her acting a lot and she indeed is gorgeous with more exotic featured compared to other actresses which makes her standout..I want to see her in a leading role.

Maybe you "Don’t see how she is more “exotic” looking" but she herself has stated that people have told her she has "foreign features" and even her friends call her "indian princess" for her looks..So obviously some people DO think so..

I hope she's not playing evil here cause I thought she was terrible as the villain in Geum Sa Wol. I don't know if it was her or the directing, but every time she was confronted, she'd widen her eyes and look all suspicious. It was annoying because every other character was too stupid to notice.

She was actually OK playing villain in GSW, but not to the extent stole the show like what Lee Yoo Ri did in Jang Bo Ri. Well GSW was a lot of mess in its plotline. She is pretty and gorgeous but in my opinion she doesn't have the villainous aura in herself.But still looking forward to see her next project. Rather than stuck doing weekend and daily drama, getting roles in prime time in a Big 3 is better, even she is just secondary role. I must credit her at least brave enough to do variety of roles, not only do the innocent type character.

Gsw storyline isn't as good as Jang Bori even though they have a strong cast like song Chang min, YHM, jih etc. Think she did ok as a villain cos everyone hates hye sang.
Seyoung suits doing romcom (enjoy glorious day) or melodrama cos she cries so beautifully or historical drama like faith. Glad she is willing to try, she also don't mind doing action shows cos she is good in sports. Hope to see her on screen more often cos she is a natural beauty

Rather what she has to do to to get herself out there. She is smart and ambitious.
WGM got her international support from Kpop fans and 2nd leads are her current place

I would say it's brave. I don't see other, more popular actresses taking on roles of villains. Probably afraid to get hate. She had said that she wanted to try different characters. I think she's currently in second lead roles because she stopped working for 10 months due to her contract dispute.
For me, I was her fan since School 2013 and seeing her on WGM made me a kpop fan.
