Lee Won-geun up to play cop to Choi Kang-hee’s Mystery Queen

Hm, I worry that this pairing is reminiscent of the Joo-won/Choi Kang-hee pairing in Level 7 Civil Servant… but they wouldn’t recreate that dynamic on purpose, right? Though neither actor is confirmed, Lee Won-geun (The Good Wife) is currently in the running to star as the police detective who will work alongside ajumma novice sleuth Choi Kang-hee (Dazzling Temptation) in the new KBS drama Mystery Queen.

In the new comedy, Choi Kang-hee is up to play the wife of a prosecutor, who missed out on her chance to become a police officer when she married young. She’s a longtime lover of mystery novels who once dreamed of becoming the next Agatha Christie, so she has some astute powers of deduction, though everything she learned about solving crimes comes from books. Through chance, she ends up cooperating with the local police on a case, leading to an unlikely partnership between the ajumma and a detective, whose methods couldn’t be more different from one another.

Lee Won-geun has been offered the role of the pretty boy captain of the local neighborhood precinct. He’s a passionate detective who graduated from police university, and he’ll end up helping the heroine in all sorts of ways so that she can realize her dream and become a cop. I can definitely see him in the role, even if the pairing is odd—he’s still got that honor student vibe from Sassy Go Go that should translate easily into righteous and idealistic cop.

So far there’s nothing that indicates that the leads will have a romantic relationship, since the heroine is married, after all. But I also anticipate that she could be unhappily married, so we’ll just have to wait for more details to know if this is going to be more of a buddy cop procedural, or a noona romance, or both.

Mystery Queen will air on Wednesdays and Thursdays following Chief Kim beginning in March.

I really don't know why they always put same dramas together. There's so much drama about ahjuma who had a unhappy family this year. Let's do anything else, another drama same genre as D-Day or Oh My Geum Bi.

Exactly my thoughts, as I remember there's 3 dramas about ahjumas coming up with similar concept, anyway am not interested in either maybe JNR's one not sure yet.

LWG is someone who looks like he should play high school roles for another 5 years ... i can't believe he is 25! .. i'm having a hard time picturing him as a cop

i just finished watching his thumping spike 2. though the drama is largely a mess, i find him so loveable.

Adore, absolutely adore his smile. i'll check out anything he signs on.

SPOILER

the main otp fell in love by like 7th episode (15 min episodes) yet we did not really see them interacting ... i have no idea why they were in love with each other

and then after they both realised that they were in love with the other person, the 3rd angle decided to jump in and declare that he was going to date the girl. he didn't ask her out. he TOLD her that we are dating. and she just went along. why? i have no clue. btw, the 3rd angle had not shown one iota of interest in the girl before she appeared in a short skirt

for the next 10 episodes we had this needless triangle where everyone knew who loved who yet everyone just stood in their spot. i have never encountered such a pointless triangle before.

the twin angle abandoned, some weird fan-stalking sideline story, the mandatory rigid father who secretly loves his son etc etc etc ....

everything left me scratching my head - why are they all acting this way? why?

Thank you for the elaborate explanation xD

I want to watch LWG but he is never paired with an actress I'd like to watch.

He's paired with Jung Eun Ji in Sassy Go Go and that was a wonderful youth drama with lots of good feels. They had great chemistry too!

well, not so much of a mess but has loose ends lying here-and-there leaving the viewers to deduce for themselves…

it has the plot of a full drama but made into compact and deliverable 15-minute (or so) episodes.

it is quite a nice series, it's just that there are plots that are rather abruptly stitched together for the story to move forward.

TS 2 was not a largely mess imo but the drama was boring.

Watched it because of him and Kim So Eun only.

Honestly, Kim So Eun's character is largely a mess. She is sooooo wishy washy. She doesn't like Go Yi Ra but consciously leads him on while moping about Dong Hae Sung. The "angst" was really uncalled for.

This webdrama just wasted the actors' time. I watched while skipped here and there. Webdrama can at least entertaining sometimes, but Kim So Eun already did two boring drama -Falling For Challenge and this TS 2. i hope this is the last time she do the webdrama.

Lee Won-geun is the cutest when he's smiling, his eyes look like two currants stuck in a bun. SO CUTE!

I must be a little crazy. I automatically smile back whenever I see pictures of him smiling. His eye smile is just...

Anyway, I still picture him as cheeky smart high school boy till now and I need him in another good role soon. His role in the good wife is pretty forgettable for me.

I feel u friend.. it happened to me too!.. haha.. i keep smiling whenever i scroll back to the top and saw his smiling eye...

Tho i'd really love to see LWG in another drama as a lead role but i hope this pair do not pass.. i can't see why they cast such a lovely cutie pie LWG alongside CKH.. i can't feel her in most of her drama.. so i really wonder that she kept get casted in dramas..

I know right? I quite like Lee Won Geun and Jang Nara but their respective leads are disappointing. Granted I have never seen Choi Kang Hee other than in Civil Servant Level 7, but her character sounds a bit similar. I am not watching both dramas until there's a seal of approval from beanies.

LOL One reason I kept on putting off that Joowon drama was cuz what I heard about the pairing. So, I can understand the hesitation for this pairing. I do like Wonkeunie a lot, so if he signs on, I might be inclined to watch, depending on what else is airing at the same time. XD My list of to-watch dramas is forever growing. =P

I took a picture with him when he was filming The Good Wife and he looked really young. I loved him in Sassy Go Go but he looked a little like he was playing dress-up in his suit for The Good Wife. Can't imagine him in a more mature role.

I think that was the point? Because his character just came out of Law School and is so wet behind the ears that he's too inappropriately eager and hungry (I mean, being those are not wrong, it's just that he does show them in a very naive and childish way).

I thought he looked exactly right in The Good Wife - like a fresh-out-of-college kid who was only starting to get used to being a professional.

And based on the appearances of my classmates when they started working as lawyers, his youth actually makes sense.

Yeah I can imaging that. Yook Sung Jae was such a jumpy puppy in Achiara.

I didn't finish Village but I plan to. My head was hurting from all the secrets and mysteries and the teacher that. just. won't. die!(love you Jang Hee Jin).

This pairing is really odd. I know they want a young hero, but LWG can also be like her son though. He js too baby face ?

Maybe a guy in late 20s. Like Lee So Hyuk. But honestly it is hard to find CKH has chemistry with most of her co star.

Just yesterday, someone said she met Rami Malek in Paris and then in the open thread, another went to Park Bo Gum's fan meeting, and now, you took a pic with Lee Won Geun.

They also filmed some scenes for Sassy Go Go at my son's school so I took pictures with a few of the cast but didn't get one with Lee Won Geun at that time. He looked a lot more relaxed and happy filming Sassy Go Go compared to The Good Wife. During the The Good Wife he was mostly standing by himself, probably because he was so much younger then the rest of the cast.

There's something about Lee Won Geun that just makes me want him to be on my screen all the time. I think it's that eye smile.

I wish he'd do a romantic drama again! Something youthful, some kind of college drama perhaps. I'm not feeling cop vibes from him.

I can get rookie cop off him - he has the feel of a young professional down.

But I really do want him to do another romance drama, he's SO ADORABLE as the boy half of an OTP (first in Wild Chives with Yoon So-hee, and then even more memorably with Jung Eun-ji in Sassy Go Go)

I rather hope this drama doesn't have him paired romantically with Choi Kang-hee. And it's good to see him potentially back in a lead role, I wonder if KBS likes him after Sassy Go Go?
