Nam Ji-hyun in final negotiations to star in Beware This Woman

Will this drama finally secure a leading lady to beware of? SBS’s thriller rom-com Beware This Woman has had two potential castings fall through with Lee Sung-kyung and Han Ji-min, but I’m hoping this time it’ll work out because Nam Ji-hyun (Shopping King Louis, What’s With This Family) has been offered the leading role opposite Ji Chang-wook (The K2), who is confirmed.
The new mixed-genre legal thriller rom-com comes from the writer of I Remember You and tells the love story of a man and woman who are being chased by a killer. Nam Ji-hyun is up to play Eun Bong-hee, a judicial trainee and former Taekwondo athlete who finds herself a suspect in a murder case. Ji Chang-wook plays Noh Ji-wook, a young man who became a prosecutor to fulfill his father’s dreams. He carries a trauma from his past, and he’ll end up changing careers to become a private attorney.
Complicating matters is an amnesiac killer who keeps reenacting one crucial moment, and is out to kill our two leads. I have to say, this writer comes up with some pretty unusual killers, so this whole amnesia repeat-killer dynamic has me very interested. Our characters will fight against a harsh world filled with prejudice, but lean on each other for support and grow up in the process.
I’ll be very happy if Nam Ji-hyun takes the part—she’s a wonderfully warm actress with emotional range and comedic chops who has transitioned successfully out of child roles in recent years, and I’d love to see her take on a part like this. She’s just naturally someone I root for onscreen, and I can see her being pretty adorable with Ji Chang-wook in the rom-com department.
Beware This Woman is scheduled to follow Saimdang, Light’s Diary on Wednesdays and Thursdays in May.

Omg I didn't even think of her as a possibility for this role but YES!
I fell in love with her in SKL. To be fair, I think I fall in love with all of Seo In-gook's leading ladies, but I really do think that Nam Ji-hyun is a promising young actress. I'd love to see her in an action oriented role!

SBS announced earlier in their press release about Nam Ji Hyun's negotiations that the drama title has been changed from "Please Be Careful Of This Woman" to "Suspicious Romance."
And how interesting that Nam Ji Hyun played the child version of Ji Sun in "Warrior Baek Dong Soo" starring... Ji Chang Wook. ?

yes to Nam Ji Hyun, i guess for this role, we definitely don't need some castings of Kpop idols. she (with the look of a fresh face newbies, seems a lot of people don't remember her well or noticed her...) but having tons of experiences since she is actually a 'teen actress". she acted in Film at 2005, and acted in drama 'Say you love me' at 2004... (of coz i won't remember these or know these shows so back then...) but i guess when we grow up watching TV in our innocence years, she was actually quietly acting teen or child role.
so let's put aside our shipping preferrance to prefer to ship Ji Chang Wook with who and who...
and for once rejoice that he is paired with a worthy actresses... afterall Healer and EmpressKi were like ageless but we still felt he need something that he can call as one of his pride project to bring with him into the army.

Right? I wanted her to come back in the dramaland but this was never on my radar. Now, I'm giddy with excitement. The only concern I have is that I hope there will be substantial cute opt moments. The thriller/crime dramas I've seen usually have 0 romance. But I would love to see cute romance scenes in this one.

The news makes me so happy because well.. it's Nam Ji Hyun and Ji Chang Wook!!! They already look so good together during Seoul Music Awards earlier this year and I bet they'll be adorable too in the drama.

I have to admit I like this pairing just a tad more than I did with LSK, even though I'm still upset by how she was taken out of consideration. I'm actually very satisfied with these turn of events though. It's cool that NJH is working with (yes, it's already confirmed in my mind lol) the I Remember You writer right after working with SIG!

My point is I dont think he and his last partner had that much chemistry. About the character, I don't care that much. I doubt she can offer more if her character was actually written as revengeful character. Sorry not sorry.
I wish if NJH accepts, they will have a great chemistry. Even the writing sucks, at least the chemistry is there (especially this is romance drama too).

@sera exactly, yoona had no chemistry whatsoever with JCW. Dramas where writing sucks can still be watchable , if the actors pull it through. But same can't be said if actors don't match each other on screen....or if ond of them doesn't have the sane level of acting caliber.
Also btw from SBS's statement that cherkell mentioned above, maybe we can assume she accepted the offer already?

I think Chemistry is debatable issue. Even great actors sometimes don't mesh well. Don't get me wrong but I loved I remember you but I still never liked Jang Nara and Seo In Guk together as romantic partners, it just never felt organic to me, it felt forced. As crime solving buddies, yes but as soulmates, hell no. And oddest pair can together turn in something magical. For example, I really didn't like Moonlovers especially 10th prince but when Z Hera came in, I really liked their combined chemistry.
Its that, I can't believe what I am about say but it is that 1% of something. I doubt I'd like Anna even if she was played by somebody else. Her character was just hot mess.

much to all our regrets and sadness.
i rather that they delay the airing date and push to few months later. don't ever just pull in any 'Jane, Anne or Susan" to fill in the gap. esp if they go desperate and pull in kpop idols.... i will flip lap top.
some times, when it come to acceptance of OTP, its just a bad combo of Bad character writings and bad acting and bad fake chemistry.... . that make an OTP looks very honey/candies-looking on the outside but very blend tasteless on the inside.... can't identify.
if ever NJH refused, hope they take times to find the right girl. no kpop pls.

Yes, this casting combo is great, I hope she accepts. Interestingly the netizen reactions seem to be mixed, they seem to prefer Han Ji Min/think she fits better with Ji Chang Wook for some reason. But she already declined and the drama needs to start filming ASAP, so there's a high chance Nam Ji Hyun will take it.

Maybe because Nam Ji Hyun is still quite young (22 y. o) and speaking of popularity, she is not that well known yet. I haven't read the news, but imho it is due to Ji Chang Wook as among the big and popular name, so some fans want big name as his pairing too - someone like Park Shin Hye, Han Hyo Joo for example.

Yes, they mentioned her age as a potential issue, but we all know chemistry doesn't depend on age alone. There's no certain way to ascertain chemistry until we see the actors actually act together, so there's no guarantee Han Ji Min would have fit better with him just because she is older. Besides, aren't Seo In Gook and Ji Chang Wook the same age?
Anyway, Nam Ji Hyun is perfectly capable to lead a drama, her last drama also did pretty well, so I wish they were more open-minded.

Exactly! They should give them a chance, especially if they've proven their acting skills before. At least Nam Ji Hyun has been active both in dramas and movies and her acting has always received praise. There's really not much reason to worry, except she is not marketable enough to be able to bring viewers along just to see her. But then we'd be seeing the same faces all the time which would frankly get really boring. At least for me. So having a popular star paired with a less popular, but talented co-star might work just fine, both to hype the drama and promote a talented actor or actress.

Ikr! I think if it's not Park Shin Hye or Park Bo Young they always have lukewarm reaction. You know there are actually so many early-mid 20s talented actress in Korea, if they aren't given a lead role ASAP, when will they lead a drama?
If you look at current A-list actresses, say Jun Ji Hyun, Im Soo Jung, Gong Hyo Jin, etc they actually started getting lead roles in their early 20s. That's why it's very important for young talents to be recognized early.

haha, i am one of them that throw out some sugestions about casting in Han Hyojoo, or Moon Chae Won, or park minyoung (again)... because we are worries that they throw in kpop . well... we are always glad that they bring in real good actresses, esp those with good experiences as child actresses...
NJH is more than fine... Kim Go Eun .. Go Ah Sung.. Park ji eun, all are fine., not so famous, but all can act, see, we dun really means must have A lists. as long as they bring in the one that can act.

Have you seen all her dramas? It's all the other fandoms who are threatened by her rising popularity. One way to stop this is to create that negative impression. She is not the best but she is a decent actress. And comparing njh to Lsk is like comparing apples and oranges. Njh is a sunbae in terms of acting experience. Lsk just started but she definitely is a lot of potential. Before you even you open mouth, make sure you have reliable sources not just hearsay or base it from impressions of netizens. Their view may be skewed and just because they say so means it is gospel.

Glad they managed to secure a leading lady with decent popularity and acting skills in the end.
It's a bad move on SBS' part to offer the role to Lee Sung-kyung (only to take it back after bad response), because this means they won't be able to secure an A-list actress after that.

Yeah, I don't get why Koreans don't like her. She's so popular internationally. Her instagram likes are 2 or 3 times more than Taeyeon and Park Shinhye (two of the most followed Korean female celebrity).

Her instagram likes exploded after WFKBJ, before that, she got much less likes. The international popularity of Kim Bok Joo and her aesthetic selfies are the reason for the huge amount of likes. If she has her short hair and dorky expression in the picture, it will get much more likes than her long hair pictures. That is the international popularity of Kim Bok Joo, which is still fresh in the mind of a lot of international fans. But popularity measured by instagram likes is a bit unreliable thing to do so... And there are Korean viewers who really like her, I’ve seen many positive comments too. Every actor/actress gets negative comments too even if they are much loved . It’s just that she will have to play a role in a drama that will finally make the general viewers love her

It won't happen if they didn't offer to Ji Chang Wook and offer it to less popular actor. Maybe. Ji Chang Wook had few popular partner - from Ha Ji Won, Park Min Young and Yoona, so it is probably a downgrade if he is paired with Lee Sung Kyung.
Mg biggest regret, from the day one I heard about this drama was Lee Sung Kyung, not Ji Chang Wook. Ji Chang Wook was in talk for another drama. But after the casting of JCW confirmed, then the hunting for female lead began again because of the negative reactions. I am glad Ji Chang Wook will play one more drama again before his enlistment, but the BTS of these castings made me angry honestly.
I just wish this drama will be good. For the sake of JCW and NJH.

Different people have different perspective but personally, I can't feel the chemistry between the leads and just like others, I find song yoon-a & ji chang wook more compelling.
I think the main concern is the character development. It doesn't help that Im Yoona is not a caliber actress to do more of what has been written that's why it just continue to go downhill.

The problem was, I watched The Healer before I watched K2. If you've watched TH, then you know that the chemistry between JCW & PMY was sooooooo naturally believable. So sweet..so tender..unforgettable! Not to mention how they both fed off of each other, acting wise. That OTP is now number one on my list. So yeah, needless to say, I was very underwhelmed with JCW & Noona. They didn't match in my opinion.

Holy moly, thanks for putting that in perspective! I suppose I'm most excited for Master of the Mask right now, but if Nam Ji-hyun does accept I might be more interested in Beware This Woman. Aaaiieee -- I don't think I've ever watched all three shows airing in the same time slots before, this could be crazy!

YAY!! I missed NJH on screen so much! I'm not too sure about the writer or the production team and I'm a little apprehensive over why so many actresses rejected the role before NJH but I just hope that she accepts because I missed her so much after SKL.

This is a very interesting development. She's a good actress but I am having a hard time imagining chemistry between her and him. I don't want to see him paired with another "Anna" type girl, I'd rather see the sharp and sassy leading lady like he had in Healer with Park Min-Young.

That"a why he remembered Healer-ya so much that , he ever shared Chae Young Shin is example of his ideal type of girl. healer has all the best element : God writer Song Ji na as the brain. Good PD who build up the framework and direct everyone to work well like the the skeletal frame.

Good PD who build up the framework and direct everyone to work well like the the skeletal frame that holds the whole body. Supporting Casts that are work well with the OTP and actually are not much less importance as the OTP as like the hands and legs of the body, and the OTP is the eyes and mouths that uses the senses to tell the story straight from the heart.
Healer has all these elements. remember the times at DB when healer aired, its second to none.
JCW needs something closer to that, i think I Remember You writer can bring forth something closer to SongJiNa.

JTBC : super cool Park Sung-woong in Man to Man - Is he adopting that accent he used in Remember? If yes I'm so in this.
This list hasn't included Defendant and Whisper I'm planning to watch.. what about Reply 1988 1997? Oh how on earth can I find time for all of this? :D

Oh, so glad to hear this news! With not much time left to work with (it's not like they can push it off if he has to go into the military soon), I've been worried that the drama wouldn't happen at all. And I'm glad they got a girl who can act. (Er. Sorry. I just have a hard time with celebrities from other fields getting cast into acting roles because they have pretty faces and are popular, even if they can't act their way out of a tin can.) I really hope that the role itself is a strong one, because if so, this could be really good.

I enjoyed her performances in 'Will It Snow for Christmas?' and 'Angel Eyes,' but I feel like I can't watch her in something that's longer than 4 episodes, because there's something about her voice and the way she speaks. I was wondering if it was just me, so I read up on some Korean netizens' comments, but there does seem to be a fair agreement that there's something off-putting about it. Oh, well. I guess I'll have to skip this one, but I wish her well.

Sigh ... when I see Nam Ji Hyun, I see Seo In Guk ... ??? Their chemistry was so VERY VERY REAL, that it is so very, very difficult not to ship JiHyun and InGuk in real life!!
BUT I'm a big fan of Ji Chang Wook!!
Some real life connections:
1) Seo In Guk and Ji Chang Wook are close friends who like to go for karaoke together! Seo In Guk has expressed his wish to act with Ji Chang Wook.
2) Seo In Guk acted in I Remember You.
3) Nam Ji Hyun presented with Ji Chang Wook in the Seoul Music Festival earlier this year!
4) Both JiHyun and InGuk (okay, this is not quite relevant) are TOTALLY UNDER RATED ACTORS- Sigh ... I MISS seeing them together!

Nam Jihyun is good in acting but she lacks star power to bring in high ratings, especially if they are going against Yoo Seungho and Kim Sohyun. Hopefully it can get 10% ratings at least, so Ji Changwook can have a hit drama before his army enlistment.

Star power only get you the first episode aka saimdang... The successful of drama doesnt rely on star power or acting ability, its the writing and directing. Shopping King Louie (Seo In Guk, Nam Ji Hyun) was the underdog but it won over Jealousy Incarnate( Jo Jung Suk, Gong Hyo Jin). There is no way to predict the outcome will be but at least both of them can act and look good together.

I totally secnd this. Star power or whatsoever they called, its the cast acting ability and chemistry that matter. Plus good story, plus good directing, etc etc. Shopping King Louie has proved this when they up against Jealousy Incarnate(I loved JI too) where SKL topping the Wed-Thur slot in S. Korea. That is an impressive achievement you see.
By the way Ive read somewhere that Bok Shil already accepted the role! Yeay! I shipped her so much with Seo Inguk(King of romance aka chemistry to me)but I am anticipating this, to see how much she would fare with Ji Chang Wook. Go go Bok Shil!

Agree with you. After what happened with Saimdang, I can guarantee star power is only for buzz. Chief Kim is also lack of star power (let's be honesT Nam Goongmin is not and Junho while he is an idol, he is not really famous imo) but their drama succeed in rating.

Honestly this is why I am sick with some of JCW's fans (and some other popular actors too). See W, Lee Jong Suk - Han Hyo Joo are both powerful stars, did their drama hit in rating? The rating was great but not something hit and keeps decreasing too. In K2, Ji Chang Wook - Yoona are powerful too, but did their drama a hit one like Goblin. No. At least he is paired with good actress, not someone who cannot act or some idols.
The star power just for promotion and buzz, after all people will keep watching for drama. I highly doubt viewers will continue to watch just to see the faces of popular actors if the drama is boring..
