Individualist Min Hyo-rin and people person Gong Myung clash in mini-drama

Gong Myung (Drinking Solo) and Min Hyo-rin (Persevere, Gu Hae-ra) are starring together in KBS’s 2-episode mini-drama called Individualist Ji-young, which airs next Monday and Tuesday. There have been two teasers released, showing the main characters and their vastly different perspectives in life. Min Hyo-rin plays the title character Ji-young, while Gong Myung plays Byuk-soo, an affection addict. He’s the type that can’t go very long without having people near him, while she doesn’t concern herself at all with the lives of others.

Jarring bell music rings as Min Hyo-rin’s voiceover begins the teaser: “Is everything really my fault?” A man’s voice accuses her of always lying and hiding things from him, while a woman frustratedly complains that Min Hyo-rin is an idiot. A younger version of herself peers out the same way she does, straight at the camera. She drops a medical tray as her co-workers gossip behind her back, and she strides through hallways while others in the voiceover continue to berate her for her reclusive behavior.

Her therapist even says that she doesn’t have the confidence to treat her because Ji-young is a patient who lies to herself. We can see that she’s suffering from insomnia, and is taking pills. But throughout the teaser, she continues to decline into more erratic anxiety-ridden behaviors like scratching at her nails, and it ends with her first question repeated: “Is everything really my fault?”

Gong Myung’s character teaser is completely different, explaining one step at a time how affection-deprivation influences him. Stage one is denial, as he holds onto the skirts of a woman who’s leaving him, complaining that he doesn’t know how to survive without her. The second stage is anger where he kicks against the wall in frustration, while in the third stage, anxiety, we see him go crazy from nervousness by himself in a jail cell.

In the fourth stage, he transforms into a whining party-pooper with no manners, making him unbearable to be around, especially when drunk. The lack of people around him drives him to a movie theater alone, where he weeps by himself in his fifth stage: sorrow. But the sixth stage is a person: It’s termed Ji-young, referencing his psycho neighbor next door, whom he thinks is prickly but interesting. Perhaps opposites will attract and heal each other’s wounds.

Two-episode drama Individualist Ji-young will be broadcast this upcoming Monday-Tuesday in Perfect Wife’s time slot, before the premiere of Fight My Way later this month.

No, I meant that silver/grey hair colour. It's not suiting him at all.

That would be nice. They do it with most drama specials, so why not this?

They do it with some, not all. Baekhee has Returned still isn't up on KBS World..

This short show's story is pretty interesting compared to all those "Corrupt Professions" disease going around.
They both need to visit therapist often. Love can't do much in such dire circumstances.

it was mentioned somewhere that it's a 19+ rated drama but i don't see how it will be one.. it's even from kbs, the most reserved station that i know of in korea lol.

the storyline really interests me but im skeptical bout the leads' acting... ? i wanna see how they come together despite their contrasting personalities. *curious curious*

Agree, that can't be right. That's like saying that "The Handmaiden" is suitable for primetime tv.

Perhaps because of its rather heavy theme?

From what I read it was more along the lines of having a scene where she accidentally walks in on Gong Myung's character while he's showering. According to the article I read (which was a probably poor translation), that scene was edited out, but I think it's mostly along those lines? Like they're just exaggerating the rating-thing to gain more attention and viewers perhaps lol.

Omg she is SO pretty. These two people both seem like they need medical diagnoses and treatments. As someone with mental illness it makes me uncomfortable to see what looks like real symptoms being treated casually with a dose of "love is the best medicine". I'll probably turn my brain off and watch this anyway tho because heyy the cutes and I can't get over how pretty she is.

Glad there's a therapist mentioned somewhere because the description of what she's suffering from is more than what an "individualist" actually is.

Looks interesting, I hope they don't just glaze over the mental health issues the characters seem to be suffering from . I've yet to seen a kdrama that really tackles mental health issues or at least one where the therapist doesn't also seem inept or does something questionable

This seems kind of dark but very interesting.
That therapist sounds like a jerk though. Find a new one.

agreed, but I can't help but be a little, just a tiny bit that they're telling her they can't do it other than giving false hope and getting paid for it. But seriously they're a therapist can't they curb their words a bit? Especially since they know her history, or what she agrees to tell them.

I wasn't in the mood for dark plots but this one seems interesting? i suffer from anxiety too so i tend to watch dramas with this theme. Hope it's good though.

This should be good~ Hopefully, I am sincerely hoping. I pray to the drama gods.

The teasers dont really give us much inclination of the chemistry between the two actors. Hopefully if the stills at the bottom are anything to go from there should be some nice chemistry between the pair~

Min Hyo Rin is a hit or miss with me. I loved her in some stuffs, and in others, I was just meh. I haven't seen much of Gong Myung, but I think he's very likable. Hopefully they can create some chemistry together and make this special.

Hopefully it will be recapped in DB.
P.S. I know this is highly irrelevant, but can someone please tell me the song used in the trailer showing hyo-rin's character??
(Sorry I just have a bad habit of picking up songs from trailers & it usually drives me crazy because I can't find them easily.)

I can't wait to watch this one! :D
From the preview there seems to be a bit of the acting style that Min Hyo Rin did for Hong Jin-Kyung's documentary.
