Drama viewership ratings for the week of July 29-Aug. 4, 2019
by SailorJumun
We’ve got a lot of different dramas on the board, from youth drama to historical romance to medical thriller. And it looks like viewers are torn, as the dramas’ ratings are pretty evenly distributed. There are no real stand-outs, save for the weekend shows, of course.
On Monday, we had the final two episodes of Investigation Couple 2, which had always performed fairly well. It was thiiiiiiis close to double digits, but hey, 9.9 percent ain’t nothin’ to cry about. The remaining Monday-Tuesday shows, both cable, got some great results as well. I was pleasantly surprised to see A Moment at Eighteen have a little bit of a jump from last week.
On Wednesday, we had the premiere of supernatural drama When the Devil Calls Your Name. (Hm, Angel’s Last Mission‘s evil older brother?) While the episode brought in a decent 3.1 percent, the second episode fell behind, allowing Class of Lies to catch up. Then on Saturday, the weekend dramas shone as usual, with Mother of Mine comfy around 20 percent and Hotel del Luna around 8 percent.

Yay for Rookie Historian maintaining its noble lead! This show deserves all the love in the world.
I am quite surprised with When The Devil Calls Your Name's dip on ep 2. I liked the second episode more than the first one (although I loved both eps).
I am not actually surprised on Hotel Del Luna's weekly increasing ratings. We always get some sort of a dip on the Saturday episodes but we get a rise on Sundays. The ratings will rise higher as long as the show keeps its steam.
And I hope A Moment at Eighteen's ratings will keep on rising!

I heard HDL's Sunday rating not 10, which is extraordinarily good for a show on a channel that must be paid for. Yay Del Luna! And I second your cheer for Rookie, though I'm personally worried the pace is slowing. My two faves are doing well!

Judging from the rating, lots of company. Now I don't feel too stupid anymore to find it entertaining. 😜

I know you're mainly watching for Ji Sung, but I find it super entertaining and compelling which has made me feel like the crazy one around here ha. I'm used to feeling like the crazy one though :)
Glad that it's doing well in the ratings.

Is Doctor John almost like Romantic Doctor Kim? Or just like any other medical drama? Thinking of checking it out :)

John is easy audience pandering. So this rating is a expected.
This is why these kinds of shows kept being made even in 2019. They generate ratings. A cool hero that solves all the problems and every other adult stands there as a mute spectator. Ep4 ending and EP6 ending is good ex ample of it.

Why are long running weekend dramas like Mother of Mine's ratings so high compared to other weekend dramas?

Unlike the other weekend dramas KBS weekend dramas air earlier and thus tend to attract an older audience that watches out of habit, I suspect, as whatever weekender KBS airs gets at least 20-30% ratings. Some go even higher if the hype is there, but they all follow similar formulas.

I have heard that TvN is a cable channel- which means that HOTEL DEL LUNA is really doing well.

Hotel del Luna doesn't always have my heart but it does a really good job of holding my attention, I could see why it does so well in ratings. Already reached 10% in Seoul and quite close nationwide now, glad to see.
