I saw the trailer for THE GRAY MAN, a new Netflix movie. It was all action, chases, explosions and gunfire. But it told me nothing about the story. It was all flash and no substance. I had to look up the premise to find it is Netflix’s $220 + million movie. Industry publications were not impressed. For Netflix to recoup its costs, it needs to have a surge of 22 million new subscribers to sign up to specifically watch this movie.

Then, I saw the trailer for FX/Disney limited series, THE OLD MAN, starring Jeff Bridges. At least this trailer explained that Bridges is a retired agent who is about to be terminated by his old agency. It seems like a very old cliche story being re-told without Liam Neeson. It was like THE GRAY MAN without the Hollywood blockbuster special effects.

Neither project seems interesting to me. It does reaffirm that Hollywood will flush money down the tubes. For perspective, $220 million could make 20 high quality Korean movies (Parasite’s budget was $11 million.

The summer blockbuster releases in 2022 are trying to get people back into movie theaters. But the bigger they are, the harder they may fail.

In the meantime, rave reviews for an action movie with a story from India, RRR:

Hubby laughed his way through RRR last night. The sound effects told me it wasn't my cuppa, but he enjoyed immensely.

Main cast salaries, not always, and union wages tend to be much higher for Hollywood productions.

I vaguely remember a CW show was budgeted around $1MM per episode even when it was filmed in "cheaper" Canada.

Summer - It's beautiful summer - ad humidity and becomes quite interesting and entertaining. Humidity in a heat wave - naaah.

I had talked about how can you play sport in such heat - professional sport and an practice of 2 teams cancelled because temp is way up.

How come i escaped this all - its 2022 so there was no need to show patience and i could have easily moved ahead and so increased water intake - m sweating that show body have enough water to spend.

From 2021 feb - ate no fruit so next week that stupid idea will be no more.

Have to try meat and sea food someday too.

Pretty entertaining week -

Boris escaped no confidence - oh man - haha - Everyone - dozen articles - times up - and boris still escaped and now articles title is "when"
Where these guys come from. Better spend time on the circus that is happening.
These so called column writers are right always.

I like this move - head you win, Tail the other party losses. You are at top whatever the outcome be. Way to go with words.

XI actually looked all powerful and surely is one of the most powerful in today's world but he does appear more prone to forces that usually do not much for CCP. Then he's the one who made himself to be more than CCP. So, he's into not so much of a sweet spot now. Surprising. HUGE SURPRISE.

As i said cricket jems well with politics and Imran the previous cricketer and PM actually is openly fighting for the chair creates one funny narrative - voices against army can only happen when you have your own lunatic fans and so does he.

I already said months back 2023 - 2024 elections are for cricket. You gonna see how money is spend to create the momentum for specific parties and candidates.

Is it coexist or complete monopoly - if yes then baseball has to go.

This time is time of charming media managing politicians and everyone of them likes to create more chaos so as to keep people distracted and have their easy days.

Human world is so much fun.

Just want to let any Beanie reading this know that you should drink plenty of water, especially in the summer and ESPECIALLY if you’re sweating, and you should eat fruit as well.

Unless you want to get heatstroke and scurvy. :)

Right words said above - It can become really dangerous.
Those who are conditioned for it find it hard so don't take part in some stupid games or else you would be having chat with st. peter.

And become part of hydrohomies.

It seems to be a rather effortfully trendy term for a person, usually male, who takes excessive pride in self-hydration.

1

Or maybe it would be more fun if we came up with our own definitions, e.g. 'a gangsta who uses water pistols' or 'a small place of refuge for lost water'.

2

I was going to ask this! Thanks!

1

@knewbie What does self hydration mean? Drinking water, right? Why make it so complicated? :-D And why does someone takes pride in drinking water?

I guess I am really not fit for the latest and trendy. :-D

1

@jillofalltrades Even "hydrate" is a bit too trendy for me. Anyway thanks to all this talk of water and fruit, I found myself gulping down water, mugicha and oranges all weekend.

1

@knewbie I agree! I do not remember ever using the word "hydrate" in that context.

So many dramas and so little time. Days are getting shorter but work isn't. This uses to be the time of the year where I would disappeared from the real world and I would just watch dramas and movies like a crazy woman (aka. vacations) but I don't have that anymore. Those days are over.

While watching the american drama Severance (premise: separation of your work memories from the rest. When you're at work you only know/remember work, when you're outside you don't remember what happened in those 8h) I was like "it would be nice to not have to think about work after working hours. I also want to leave my body there like a working machine and have the rest of my day with no work-problems". Now I think "but what does it feel to not have the hope to get off work? How does it feel to have zero happy memories to give you energy through the day? How does it feels to have no breaks? What are you supposed to do when you have nowhere to go? No hope to escape. No freewill..."
The concept of severance is scarier that I thought. You're miserable for 8h straight but you can't do anything about it (not even vent Chang Hee style). And technically they're 8h but the "work machine" version of yourself would feel like their in a loop of misery; for them time doesn't exists. They're always there, they're always working. They've never see the sun (or rain) or talk to friends, family... They're literally in hell even when they didn't do anything wrong. That's just sad, I wouldn't be able to do that to myself or any other person, tbh, even if I'm desperate.

Have you ever dropped a drama for whatever reason and then revisited later to discover that you liked/enjoyed it?

This was my experience with "Descendants of the PPL"

Hated it six years ago and skipped out after 6 episodes, watched it recently and i surprisingly enjoyed it, in hindsight i can see why it was a huge world wide hit, i even liked Song Hye-kyo's performance this time round.

Very first k-drama was CLOY. I started watching since Netflix kept shoving it in my face :). After the first ep I thought it was ridiculous and dropped it. Only to go back a couple of months later - and was absolutely hooked after the 2nd ep! That was my gateway drama and now have watched 39, most of them more than once. One drama I hated at first, but watched all the way through, was Something in the Rain. But then I really liked it after the 2nd watch (not sure why I decided to try again) since I knew what the characters would be like and could put aside the visceral reactions.

I remember losing steam with Chief Kim first time round, but I watched it properly a couple of years back and absolutely loved it!!
I’m still assuming this might happen with A Piece of Your Mind and When the Weather is Nice. I dropped these when I was live watching because they were too slow.

Never. I used to think hey I'm going to finish it later or pock this up again. The truth is I never picked up again drama I left behind. Choosing drama to watch is almost like love at the 1st sight or like start-up investor seeing projects with good prospects for me ha ha 1-2 eps are enough to tell which drama has it or just doesn't. I'm not that forgiving on drama either. Try to insult me drama, I drop you. Never regret or feel sorry about it. Just next please.

I've done the absolute opposite once! I don't even remember the drama anymore but I started and I binged all but the last 4 eps in a day. I went to bed, woke up the next day excited to finish it and was like.....what fresh nonsense? Didn't I LOVE this yesterday? Wasn't she THE BEST FL in the history of FLs YESTERDAY? I hated everything and everyone so much after getting a good night of sleep I dropped it with one or two eps left.

I dropped Hwayugi the first time around because I hated the FL but gave it another shot this winter and had no difficulties whatsoever finishing it. The reason spells Lee Seung-gi and Cha Seung-won. The FL still sucks.

On the topic of one's fluid intake in hot weather: I've finally overcome my prejudice against cold brewing and started using that method to make cold mugicha (barley tea).

I love the stuff - for some reason, it cools me down like no other drink. But previously I made it with boiling water, which involved cooling before refrigerating, not to mention some irritating teapot washing (those damn spouts). And all because I was absolutely convinced that anything except boiling water would ruin my teabags or tea leaves.

Now that my friends have converted me to cold brewing, I just put a teabag into a bottle of tap water and stick it in the fridge. Nothing bad happens to the teabag, and I get to guzzle cold mugicha morning noon and night.

I am incredibly cranky. My side hurts SO. BAD. from my tumble down the stairs last week. Shouldn't it have stopped by now? I don't know. The only time my side doesn't hurt is when I'm on my couch and I can place the heating pad *just right*. But the last time I saw the mouse it was darting towards the couch so obviously I can't go there. I've been hiding upstairs even though I know mice are perfectly capable of going upstairs I've been told since I don't eat up here and it's a connected town house odds are they won't bother trying to come up here so I'm clinging to that belief. I've placed the traps and I'm waiting for it to feel safe down there. But in the meantime good night sweet potato my side is killing me. So bad. It doesn't help that I'm barely sleeping. I want a slushy and a slice of watermelon.

It does! I was just told that mice are nocturnal and "they are more scared of you than you are of them!" And to not let the mice/mouse when so I'm going to try and go downstairs and lay on the couch the mouse ran towards and maybe we can take a nap together. I'm so tired and in so much pain but the couch can fix both of those problems. We'll see if my courage is up to snuff.

Yes, just do what you need to do for your rest and healing. The mouse is more afraid of you. What’s the worst thing that can happen if the mouse gets close? You’ll scream and wave your arms and he will run off. It will be fine 👍🏼

Have you put down traps for the mouse? You can get traps that are no touch disposal - and if they don’t catch anything then you have peace of mind that the mouse has moved on.

I do have mouse traps out (no touch ones) and my landlord dropped a court more no touch traps and some horrifying glue traps. I haven't put those down yet. I was going to wait until tomorrow and see what I saw and put the other no touch bait trap down

June is really stuffy. I find myself axing shows off my list if I don't watch the premiere episodes. And if the recaps and commentary don't do the watch-me effect afterwards, it is final. These are shows I really wanted and planned to watch but are the timing is just so congested. Why come out at almost the same time?

I picked up Eve today out of 6 June backlogs. 5 remaining.

Anyone have an explanation why Kocowa (which is a joint venture between the big three terrestrial broadcasters KBS, SBS and MBC) has an upcoming drama from TV CHOSEN, BECOMING WITCH/aka THE WITCH IS ALIVE on its “Coming Soon” list?
Since the Kocowa big three started licensing some of their dramas to Disney plus and thus blocking legal availability to US viewers I find it a bit strange that Kocowa is now promoting (and I think it is the first in my memory but I may be wrong) a drama from a non big three network.
At the end of October when my current Kocowa subscription expires I plan on canceling due to lack of interest by Kocowa in offering dramas to US viewers on a legal stream.

Lee Yuri was promoting the show on KBS' Problem Child in the House. Perhaps KBS invested in the production or TV Chosen could not license it to a larger platform like Netflix.

Hello, I think there may be some little green men aka gremlins living in the wires and machines. In my latest update I wrote about The Sound of Magic and made a typo, countless edits still show Ji Chang-wool. instead of Ji Chang-wook. Could some kind hearted Mod who is technologically knowledgable please look into this?
Thank you muchly.

Started recently a new job after a long hiatus(been taking care of my paralyzed grandmother for a loong time till she passed away in 2020),still in the process of adjusting myself to the working life and adjusting my sleep...This days when 11 o'clock strickes i'm on bed as i wake at 7 a.m. in the morning...
A bit stressed as i need to learn/memorize all the poaring information and not gonna lie when i say i feel more than once stupid for not being able to memorize the procedures faster...I listen but the info doesn't seem to remain in my head,it just goes in it's on way...
Friends say it's normal as it's only the first week but even so i can't help but feel very frustrated with myself...

Another major frustration is my weight..I'm a midget and did gain some weight this years and had a hard time loosing even little as i can't do sports, have heart problems in this 2 years...Everybody told me after i'll begin work i'll surely loose it easier but guess what...in a week i've gained 2/3 kg more...I'm thinking because now i eat 3 meals rather than just 1/2 like before(breakfast, work lunk consisting of a home made plain sandwich and a 500 natural juice, dinner when i arrive home)...I don't really eat junk food, like 2-3 times a month (a pizza or a burger type),don't eat fried stuff as well, just oven ad grill with lots of vegetable and still can't loose this darn kg off me and aside from my tachycardia i don't have any other health problems...I drink lots of water as well... I really envy those who loose weight easily...
Also, why is everyone always thinks anyone can just go to a gym or do sports like it's a given?
"Oh,you are fat now, just go to the gym and loose it".

Dramas are gonna pile on my watch list as i don't really feel like watching much after coming home so planning to leave them for the weekend if i'm not going outside...

Gotta take my hat off to you for taking care of your grandmother. Returning to work will be difficult at first, but I assure you that for most of us, just learning or memorising the steps of some procedure isn't enough. I'd have to actually perform it several times - and pretty slowly too! - before I can make sense of it as a whole.

I can also relate to your struggle with your weight. Going to the gym or taking a walk isn't easy for everyone. Personally, I find online workout videos rather useful, like those of Justin Agustin or Bernice Taylor. The routines are very manageable and can be done in small indoor spaces. In fact I've done some of them while watching K-drama...

Required fields are marked *

I'm also like that,i do better when i actually repeat the same thing over and over again,in this case working on the job's main platform for it's various uses and i prefer to always ask, even if the question was repeted x times or seems stupid rather than do it myself if i don't feel sure yet...
I've looked online on various clips for indoor easy routine to do by myself and will stop as many times possible(i loose breath as my pulse is going high, usually i'll have it like 80/90) but i hope in time some result will show...
I took care of my grandmother for 10 years and it was indeed very hard as i was young(in my 20's) and lost a lot but it was a situation were i didn't have much choice and yet i loved her and felt sad as she mainly raised me...

So,can say that for some people money can bring happiness/make one's life better as brutal as it might sound...

Imagine living in a world of Candy!

I started watching STart up. Watched first episode till Suzy and her sister meet after the interview session. (The guy who asks her sister an uncomfortable question is the same guy who is her love interest in my roommate is a Gumiho right? )

And suddenly when Suzy started to brag about her business and her (supposed) boyfriend, I was not able to watch it any further. I loved the childhood story. Even the dynamic of the younger version of sisters.

But somehow the older version ticked me off to drop the show. (And this happened only for Suzy's character). Any encouragement to continue? Does it get better? I loved Lee Bo Young (and even Lee Da Hee) in "I can hear your voice" by the same writer in spite of petty cat-fights of those character but I could not feel any soft spot for Suzy's character. :-(

PS : While I do not really like Suzy, I do not hate her either. I watched "While you were sleeping" and never had this visceral reaction.
