So, I have started Secret Love Affair. I have no idea why. I have never been able to watch anything where adultery was supposed to be amusing. I’m 3 eps in (just started ep 3) and I enjoy it? It reminds me of Pretty Noona. Not tonally but more in how from the first moments of the drama the characters already feel well established and lived in. Its not like how in some shows/dramas it takes a few eps for the writers, directors, actors and etc to all come together to make “real” feeling characters. They already feel real.
I dont know if I’ll be able to stick it out because of the whole adultery thing but, YAI is basically the cutest, most adorablest puppy to ever puppy. I mean, I’d put YAI in this puppy role up against PBG at his absolute puppiest in the puppiest role to ever puppy (I have said puppy too many times, the word is losing meaning and I am 100% convinced that I say it and turkey weirdly).
In short: YAI=adorable puppy man.
Don’t mind the adultery, there is a manipulative, older woman taking advantage of a vulnerable young person, having an affair is the least of the issues there.
Beanies have been recommending this drama to me for a LONG time now. This has never come up in any of the conversations I’ve seen surrounding this drama.
Yes, I know they all loved it and nobody cared about that. It’s a mystery. The boy is just an emotionally vulnerable person, he needs friends and support not a woman that uses that, but maybe she becomes better later, I never bothered to find out. Anyway, I only said it because you were worried about her having an affair, which I don’t think matters much, but maybe I have some different thought about these things. kk
I watched the first eight eps and dropped because he was not an adult in anything but paper, the power was entirely hers. If that changed later I would not know but she was too unlikable to make any difference.
I mean this in a completely innocent way, but Yoo Ah-in seems eminently petable. Like, you just want to stroke his head. He is a puppy. (Well, except for that movie where he kicks a puppy. Bad YAI there.)
If I ask you whether or not it has a happy ending are you going to give me a straight answer or yammer around the point? Because no one will give me a straight answer. Which makes me think that the answer is no.
I totally get it because it’s so hard to answer. It’s neither happy in a traditional sense nor sad. It’s just right.
To me this was one of those rare dramas where the ending was perfect.
He is adorable. And then he is hot. And then adorable again. And in between he blows you away because he’s got all those emotions. If you end up falling for this drama as hard as I did, here is an old fan blog: https://pianoconversations.wordpress.com/

On paper, I guess that the situation could be interpreted like that. But the power balance in this drama isn’t at all like that

It has a happy ending, but not the one you’re expecting

This is a conspiracy I say. A CONSPIRACY. No one ever tells me flat out. Its a happy ending but not what you’re expecting? What does that mean, man?!
