Jae Hee’s Mandate

With only one week left before Jae Hee enlists for active duty, he’s out promoting his latest film, Mandate.

On July 29, he and the cast of the “fantasy thriller” Mandate: Mission from God assembled at the Catchlight in Seoul’s Hongdae neighborhood for the film’s showcase.

(Jae Hee was asked by reporters about the rumors linking him romantically to Three Dads co-star Eugene, which he denied, saying, “We’re just good church friends.” Interpret that as you will. He went on to add, “Because we go to the same church, we’re super close. I also attend the same church as Ryu Seung-ryong sunbae and Han Hyo-joo, but I don’t know why these rumors only come up about me and Eugene.”)

Also in attendance were director Park Hee-jun and co-star (and new actress) Yoo Da-in. The film, which reportedly contains lots of CG effects, opens in September.

One last song before I go

Jo Hyun-jae is joining fellow Three Dads, One Mom star Jae Hee by enlisting for his military service on the same day. Well, it’ll be a second time for Jo, who was only in training a few days before leaving to film a drama, who now re-enlists (for reals, this time?).

He held his last fan meeting on July 19 at Yonsei University’s auditorium, where approximately 600 of his fans were in attendance. He played a few games and shook hands with attendees, received presents and a goodbye cake from fans (and his two main fan clubs, who came with the theme of “waiting” — for his discharge in two years, that is). Jo also sang two songs from his new digital single, “바람처럼 그대 곁에” (by your side like the wind) and “그대게 내게 해준 말” (words said for you and me) as well as the 015B song “Now It’s Goodbye” (posted below).

Both Jo Hyun-jae and Jae Hee will enlist on August 5. Sigh, it always seem like they go off in groups, doesn’t it?

So long, Jae Hee

…and thanks for all the fish!

Jae Hee just received his papers, so he’s enlisting for mandatory military service on August 5.

He’s currently busy filming a KBS drama, Hometown of Legends [전설의 고향] and has a film still to come out; Jae Hee explained that he was a little taken aback that the enlistment date was so near, with all the work he has planned, but he doesn’t plan to defer the date.

His upcoming movie, fantasy-action thriller Mandate (directed by Park Hee-jun, Raging Bull [성난 황소]), tells the story of the battle between a “ghost hunter” and the demon of serial killers he hunts. The movie releases in September, and Jae Hee is scheduled to begin official promotional activities next month, although his service date doesn’t leave him much time to do that. (Let’s just hope he doesn’t fall prey to that ubiquitous Overworked Celebrity Syndrome.)

Bold move, considering his fashion track record

Jae Hee (Delightful Girl Chun Hyang, Three Dads One Mom) and Yoo Ah In (Strongest Chil Woo, Boys of Tomorrow) have just opened up a fashion business together. Ballsy move, considering the various hits and misses they’ve had — or rather, that Jae Hee has had, since I’m not too familiar with Yoo Ah In.

(I mean, I love the guy, but man does he have styling issues. It’s not just in his dramas — although he’s drawn some major duds in his acting roles too — but in his candid shots I’m just glad to see him looking relatively normal and not like he’s doing his best impression of a gender-confused alien idol star. Remember how his character had that inexplicable fondness for flowy pink scarves in Witch Amusement? Or the Front-Butt Pants of Doom? And y’all know how I love me my Jae Hee so it’s not just idle snark kicking in.)

Perhaps that’s why I’m not much surprised to read that their Levlife line offers “not only male fashions, but also women’s items, clothing, and various accessories.” (Stick to what you know?) The two actors will not merely be lending their names to the line, but actively be involved in the buying and designing of various items.

Wall: 1, Jae Hee: 0

Owww.

While at work filming his current KBS series Three Dads, One Mom on May 11, Jae Hee was injured and required nine stitches. Ironically, the scene he was shooting took place in a hospital.

In the scene, Kyung Tae (Shin Sung Rok’s character) is stabbed and Jae Hee’s character rushes him to the emergency room. While waiting for his friend’s surgery results, he becomes overcome with anger and strikes a wall in frustration.

Apparently Jae Hee was a little too immersed in his work and hit the wall with too much force, “tearing his hand.” Luckily, he didn’t have to travel far to receive emergency treatment, and received nine stitches.

But rather than taking time off for his injury, Jae Hee continued with the shoot. Neither is this the first time he’s displayed his serious work ethic; previously, he’d injured an arm in a bicycle chase scene (lol) and continued filming despite it.

Jae Hee’s always seemed like an actor who takes his job extremely seriously (despite some unfortunate role selections), so I’m not too surprised to hear this, although nine stitches? In one hand? Yeesh. It’s just too bad the two actors immersing themselves into this drama can’t make up for the other two who aren’t.
