Open Thread #35

Phew, I haven’t gotten out of town in a long while. I’m heading down to San Diego for zee weekend, and I have one singular goal: to spend as little of that time as possible sober. Woo, mojitos and sake! Erm, not together, of course. (Although…)

What do y’all have planned for this hot, hot weekend? (Notice how every time it’s hot, I whine about it? In case you haven’t guessed, I HATE HOT WEATHER. Yeah, I know, I’m living in the wrong city.) I should really move to Seattle.

But I’ll still be posting — thank god for delayed-publishing features! Seriously, it’s probably one of the best features invented in blogging. I mean, I’m not so married to the site that I can’t take a few days off (although sometimes I think it’s easy to forget that) but being able to maintain a regular posting schedule is reassuring. What a weird, weird thing blogging is.

I'll be trying to recover from "Screening Humanity", still can't believe they showed Semi's mothers death. Luckily I just got a case of San Soju, but what I really want is Makoli and bibim gooksoo.

Another thing that's bothering me happened on We Just Married ep. 14. When Alex & Shin Ae put the locks on the fence at Seoul Tower it made me remember of that happening in a drama, but I can't remember which one. I just know the locks were pink and were still there after the shoot because someone had posted a picture of them online. Can someone please tell what drama that was.

Yup, Seattle is a nice place to be :)... I plan on watching the Euro cup quarterfinals and finishing the subbing episode I'm working on. Not terribly exciting but I'm looking forward to it none the less.

No offense to the Seatlle folk, but SF is must nicer :P. There's the cooler weather without a lot of rain. Plus it's still in the great state of Kalifornia!!

Anyways, weather is going to be warm up here so it's BBQ time accompanied by lots of really cold maekju!

Try not to melt down in So. Cali Javabeans.....

LMAO!! I hate hot weather too! I live in San Francisco and I specifically moved to a neighborhood that is notoriously foggy. Unfortunately CA is currently in the midst of a bloody heat wave so there's no fog. I wish it were rainy and cold every day.

yeah, washington in general sounds really nice. i think once you live in california you realize the importance of rain. omo...when it rains, i go all out and enjoy myself. you guys should try and napping [or dancing if no one is watching] in the rain while listening to your ipod. pretty exhilarating.

Hey guys! Loveeee the blog, dramabeans.....

SO, sorry to change subject...but ive been waiting for an open forum to ask this........

Does anyone have any news about the Korean HYD?

Seriously.....i haven't even heard of the cast yet!!!

Are there any rumors going on in the Korean Drama community about the project being scrapped, or anything like that????

Cuz I highly doubt that it can go on for the fall if we haven't heard about it for months!!! (of course, they can speed up the process, but that would suck cuz then quality may fall, and we are really expecting alot from this drama)

Anyways............if anyone knows anything, please post it up!!!!!!!!

Much as I love that San Francisco doesnt have the freezing 10 degree winters that I experienced in Boston (shudder), I do miss actual summer - summer in SF is like winter in SF is like spring in SF....... Although this year has been pretty nice so far - actual warm weather.

As for my weekend plans, well right now Im feeling fairly terrible after drinking just a little too much at a concert last night, oversleeping and waking up 2 hours late for work. So right now Im in "never again" mode. But if it stays sunny I may be tempted outside....

javabeans is only happy when it rains? I love it!! :D

Yeah, SF doesn't get hot until really the end of August. One month of yuck, and that's about it for the whole year. But 65 degrees in Seattle in June sounds heavenly. Rain, coffee, Modest Mouse, and easy access to smack. That's living the dream, people.

@Rebec(c)a,

Not a peep as been heard about Korean HYD. I don't think any news will come out no sooner than early fall. In fact, if you look at the planned KBS schedule, there's no room for another show until *maybe* December 2008. (BTW Song Il Gook doing Kingdom of the Winds? As in the online game / comic book Kingdom of teh Winds? ANOTHER KBS fusion show for the kids?!? Dude, it better have awesome CGI than Warcraft . . . )

I live in Tacoma, which is about 35 minutes south of Seattle (well...when there's no traffic *frowns*). I do love Seattle though and because it rains here a lot (or drizzles...choose whichever verb you'd like), the smog isn't quite as bad. It's a nice location too cuz if you want hot, then you could just drive for about 3-6 hours (depending where you wanna go) to Eastern Washington and you could bake there as much as you want! We're having a wonderfully awkward summer with cold weather (it's averaging around 65 degrees Fahrenheit so far), which I've heard is due to the Alaskan Jet Stream and something with pressure where the usual warm wind from California is being blocked. Obviously, I'm no meteorologist. Some say this funky weather right now is due to La Nina, but I'm not quite sure about that.

Woot Eurocup Quarterfinals!!! Go Germany ^^

Wow, javabeans,
If you love the rain, you should visit Vancouver. We're known for our liquid sunshine.

Anyways, it's the first official day of spring and I hope the sun will at least peep out tomorrow, because I'm heading to the Dragonboat Festival and Chinatown Night Market afterwards.

Cheers to the first weekend of summer!!

i've been to seattle twice, have visited vancouver a lot & lived in the SF bay area for two years.. they're all really nice places, but these days i actually appreciate the hot, sunny weather down here in my hometown of OC/LA.. every day is a perfect beach day & you can go just about anywhere & do just about anything.. i also love picnic weather that encourages gorging oneself on tasty fried foods & ice cream.. (mmm.. chili fries... i'm dreaming about them right now.. ;P)

It's 79 today, and it'll be like this for awhile.

I guess it makes up for the snow we had in March. Aha.

Hi dramabeans! Glad to know you are visiting the beautiful San Diego! I don't like hot weather (in the same manner that I don't like extremely cold weather, like snow), but San Diego gives me the right temperature almost throughout the year. Lived here for ten years and no plans of moving anywhere (eventhough it has the highest gas price amongst the big cities in the US). Wish I know you so I could personally thank you for sharing your talent (writing and wit and I'm sure many others) with us. Enjoy the mojito!

hey,
love your blog. regular reader here. i'm patiently waiting for a new drama to excite me. After "who are you", i'ven't been very much interested in anything. Did see "on air" but wasn't crazy about it. I really enjoyed "last scandal", so thank you for the recomendation and the summaries.

as for the weather, it has been a crazy year. i don't know about moving to seattle though. i think you have to be crazy for rain to survive there. please don't get upset as i live in vancouver, canada and know all too well what the wet and rainy season can do to one's sanity. when i first moved out here, i asked someone if this "rain" is seasonal. i was told "yes. there is summer rain, winter rain, autumn rain and ofcourse spring rain". Every season comes in the form of rain.

well keep up the good work. i'm a fan. take care.

Hey I live in San Diego and I must say since you hate hot weather like me, you picked the wrong time to go here. It's so HOT! I hate it! I'm going to Seattle next month and I'm so excited :D Hopefully it won't be as sizzling and annyingly hot there as it is here. THe only good part about having beaches here is getting to go there at night where you could feel the wonderful sea breeze without having to worry about getting dark or getting sun-burned. Well I hope you have a great time in SD :D

Dear Javabeans,

I thought this is the best place to post this query, although this is outside your open thread topic. Up until now, I haven't gotten over CP. I still take my daily dose and the only music I listen to is the CP OST. My love affair with this drama was partly due to your nice summaries, both the novel and the drama, as well as the blogs - which I have read- everything. I visit your site daily, hoping to get a new kick for a new drama. But results have been dismal -even My Sweet Seoul- which should come as closest connection given the presence of the Voice. Sigh! I may just have to live by this longer. But don't get me wrong. It is not affecting me negatively. In fact, it is a source of inspiration, even for de-stressing after a long at work! Hope you could give updates on the CP stars from time to time.

Thank you for the connectivity!!!
