Dragon Zakura creator visits set of God of Study

KBS’s current drama hit God of Study is, as you’re probably aware, a remake of a 2005 Japanese drama that was based on a manga, Dragon Zakura. Last week, the manga’s creator, Mita Norifusa, paid a visit to the drama’s sets and showed his support for the production team.

Mita arrived in Korea on January 27 and headed straight to the God of Study set in Suwon, where he chatted with the cast members (students Yoo Seung-ho, Go Ah-sung, Lee Hyun-woo, Lee Chan-ho and Ji-yeon, and teachers Kim Su-ro and Bae Doo-na). He also had dinner with the cast and staff that evening.

Mita says he is currently watching God of Study over the internet, and shared his thoughts: “Compared to Dragon Zakura, which aired in 2005 on TBS and was plot-intensive, God of Study has characters that are three-dimensional.” He said of Kim Su-ro’s lawyer-teacher character, “He’s the character who leaves the strongest impression. I’m thankful that he expresses the character well.”

Personally, I disagree — I really dislike Kim Su-ro’s character, who single-handedly puts a damper on the drama for me — but I’m sure Mita wouldn’t be anything less than polite to the cast. The next installment — today’s Episode 9 — will develop his storyline in more depth.

I watched both versions of this drama. I am a bit disappointed with this one. BUT i LOVE the way Oh Yoon Ah is playing the role of a principal . She cracks me up.

Prefer this one over Dragon Zakura. DZ has some slice-of-life goings on, but it's also very linear. Each episode covers a new study technique, and they apply. And that's pretty much 75% of the episodes.

"I really dislike Kim Su-ro’s character"

Hiroshi Abe's version is meaner. ;)

I LOVE THE ORIGINAL "DRAGON ZAKURA" .....THE CHARACTERS WERE VERY ENNDERING AND THE STORY MOVE ALONG NICELY....THE KOREAN VERSION IS MISSING SOME ELEMENTS....BUT THE BIG DISSAPOITMNET FOR ME IS Kim Su-ro’s character....HE DOESN'T HAVE THAT VIBE THAT Hiroshi Abe PORTRAYED AND CHARISMA HE WAS THE CENTER PIECE OF THAT DRAMA........BUT IT NEAT AND FUN THAT THE ORIGINAL CREATOR GOT TO HANG OUT WITH THE CREW AND CAST!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dude, 8th!

Yeah that's it. LOL

Just kidding, personally, I was just in it for the eye candy but DZ grew on me just like the Korean series is doing right now.

I never watched the original, but finally watching GOS, so far watched the 1st two eppies and love it.
However, aside from the kids, all other characters ARE one-dimensional. The lawyer guy, despite him being outnumbered and mocked at the start, he's too cocksure, I don't see even a slight bit of self-deprecation, anxiety, raw determination or wariness to kind of draw you closer to his character. There's no emotion hence no connection.

The kids' parents are flat out bad! Cringe-worthily bad acting and script, all aside from the grandma, she's cute.

All in all though I'm still enjoying it and nice to see the creator of the Japanese version coming out like this - exemplary, I must say! I suppose both industries are doing each other a favour when it comes to remakes.

well i watched GOd Of study actually because SooRo was in it. But hell yeah the more i watch the drama going, the more i hate Suk Ho. I really dont know why he acted that way, dont know if it was because the script was to describe him that way or he chose to do it that way. abe hiroshi's character really did impress me much more. But then again the students is another problem. I find myself wondering if i should continue watching it or not, since im sure there will be something going on between Baek Hyung and Pul Ip. ..... my god Ah Sung's acting irritates me lol.

i haven't watch DZ so i can't compared to GOS but its is very similiar to GTO
if anyone watched jap anime, he is the gangster, turned teacher with a school girl fetish and teaches kids about life and school, not just about getting into chun ha
anyway kim so ra character is good, he is very simiiar to GTO but he lacks humour, he is a straightforward character, and looks life differently
he comes from a different background and understands these children are like him

BUT what i like about him is that he doesn't use his personal past to encourage students, instead he uses the law and stuff to goad into doing stuff for themselves
who wants to hear about KSR character talking about his past and stuff where he was a bad guy and then he started learning so he can make a better life for himself

Most of the other cast are doing well and holding their own and their hasn't been any problems with the story

Ive only seen up to ep2 cos there are no subs ready for it but i look forward to it, something to mix it up when watch jejoonwon and last scandal

anyway see ya

Just watched episode 9, it was an okay episode but like with the ones preceding it I find myself disinterested for about half of the episode...I still enjoy many moments but its not as engaging as other dramas. Yes the whole lot of teachers is what doea that for me, but the students are very compeling any way I have to agree that while I usually have fun watching Kim Soo-ro I don't like his portrayal of Kang Suk-ho...I just can't see his motivation or that he genuinely cares, anyway its nice to hear that the author is keepung up with the adatation of his work, thanks for the post!

I don't like Kim Su-ro’s character at all and he can't even compare
to Abe Hiroshi but I like the young actors better then the ones
in the japanese version(masami nagasawa, Yui Aragaki and Yamapi)
The children especially Go Ah Sung as Pul lip, she brings a lot more
in the character the Nagasawa Masami did.

I don't think any of the actors in this drama can match up to the great delivery by Hiroshi Abe, and the amazing magnetism of Yamashita Tomohisa. It's not a bad drama, just comparing it... it falls really flat.

Agree with someone above, Go Ah Sung acting really great & natural. She has been superb actress since her child time, watch Beating Heart, The Host & you will know. No wonder she get nominations for Baeksang this year.

Watched both shows from start to finish...DZ and GOS...

I believe people side with the original ( or the first adaption ) because apparently its finished... and it is good too

Give GOS a chance... you have only watched the beginning of the series, where they usually show the problem in the story... its way too early to judge it with DZ....

Once you reach 10 and above... the drama goes really deep....its goes from "trying to revive a school's name" to "trying to teach others how to live in life"...

I'll stop here.. coz i'd be spoiling the fun for u guys

See both shows to the end... You won't be disappointed..

No offense but I had the feeling like GOS were some kinds of parody of DZ 0_0 The principal also seemed to have totally different personality ... the lawyer was sooooooo disapointing.. wow... I don't know what to say but sorry, I hate GOS =)

GOS will depend upon people interest and lost his originality and deep meaning from original DO, just like another remake.

also, students character in DO is more natural being like having trouble in life than in GOS.
