Samsooki must have a jang nara radar. You even mention her--no even think of posting about her and BAM he who has been MIA on OT decloaks in a flash. If Samsooki was Batman we would need a Jang Nara signal to get his attention.

@Ockoala

I think Thank You (excepting Chuno since I didn't see it yet) is his best work and because he just came out of the army the fanservice moments were sweet. BTW I think hubby has a man-crush on JH because he is willing to see Chuno and he asked his hair dresser to cut his hair like him.

Survivor is on tonight Yippee.

@nycgrl,

NOBODY will believe me, but it was completely random. A true coincidence, I swear.

LOL!

As for being MIA, I still read every comment that graces OT, I just haven't had much to say lately and been busy on other things.

I have a few subbing projects (not yet announced) that I am working on, and of course I have the chuno recaps to fill out my time.

That, plus now it looks like I have to speed watch Still Marry Me in order to start Oh My Lady for realz.

Between subbing, recapping, watching, work, family, and spring finally blooming in NY, I'm a tad swamped with things to multi-task...

Whatever. I see a prevaricator when I see one. He was on me like a cat on cream within nanoseconds of my post. I see the time stamp, samsooki, defender of all things JNR. Coincidence?!? Hah, your day/week/month is clearly not complete without delurking on behalf of JNR. :-) I find your dedication noteworthy. But I find your doublewhammy random discussion of my I Lub You + my roboty SSH in an unrelated/un-OT thread disturbing but for the fact that my radar was on and pinged me in a microsecond.

To my credit, I did not say JNR's performance in Bright Girl was pffft, or even insinuated that JNR herself was pffft. I was making the personal preference known that the chubby JH + JNR pairing circa 1999 was pffft to me. However, I reserve the right to rescind that presupposition if I ever watch Bright Girl one day. I imagine the paragliding into a bathtub scene randomly sometimes. ^_^

@ nycgrl

Your hubby has good taste. :-) It could be worse, much much worse, he could have a man crush on like Kim Jae-won. Nothing wrong with KJW, but it would be like crushing on white bread. Albeit good delicious white bread.

@4 lovenyc52 -

Okay, let me tell you guys a story.

When I was in college, I thought this girl in our dorm was cute and my roommates were all like, "dude, what are you waiting for." But I said, dudes, this fall semester is not even a week old, what am I, some sort of over-anxious nerd? Let's just all chill and not all hit on her from day 1, okay? But that day, she hurt her ankle somehow and she was on crutches and I was coming back from somewhere and we met right at the bottom of the starwell and so I offered to help her up the stairwell. So I carried her, k-drama style.

And of course, some ppl saw that and then it got back to my roommates and they were all like LIARRRRRRRRR, but it was true, it was pure coincidence and plus I would have helped her even if she were already going out with someone else. I could not "prove" it and nobody would believe me - not even the girl believed me after my roommates immediately spilled the beans (thus ruining potential plans that I had for the future).

@Eikooo... hey! *waves*
Just trudged back through all the comments to recall where we left off.
I don't think I was paying attention to the Dr Lee and his career prospects in America after all.
I think I was sidetracked by all that Engrish. Haha! Not to mention the Russian dood who got dubbed over to sound 'American'. *slaps forehead*

@Serendipity and Eiko
About Chuno:
Jang Hyuk is yummy! I've liked him for a long time and it feels as though the Dae-gil character was created for Jang Hyuk, I mean it's fit him so beautifully.
I LOVE the fight scenes, I think they're done really well. The flying around parts are done with such finesse AND sparingly, so as not to overkill it. *drools*

I even like Oh Ji Ho's Tae-ha. He has a raw yet regale kind of quality about him (apart from the snoozeville parts where he's husband to Un Nyun), love that part in 16 when Dae Gil chops off his bun and unleashes Tae-ha's luscious locks. I mean...I was like ''waaaahhhh... '' seriously my mouth dropped wide open at that wonderful sight.

I'm wondering whether or not to try d/loading soft subs and see if they'll be compatible with the Chuno epis I've been getting from cashewmania. If that works I'll left you know, that way you won't have to wait around extra long to catch up to Chuno.

@Serendipity - speaking of Baeksangs, I'm surprised Lee Yeo Won isn't on there for Queen Seonduk, she's one of my fave actresses.

@Eiko
I'm off to watch 15 of OBGYN. Don't be expecting any spoilers from me now! :p

I find it hard to believe but I'll be willing to believe you if you'll just try out for Survivor once. Survivor has a hard time casting asians so they have to resort to recruiting them. If you are physically fit, willing to eat sea slugs and sleeping on bamboo while spooning a smelly guy, you could be our next Yul. We already know your intelligent (with the exception of the JNR thing but maybe that's more of a matter of taste) so you would be good at strategizing though come to think of it I think your KJH kidnapping plot seemed to have gone awry somewhere hmmm... but never mind that, and and PLUS your a lawyer!?! For some strange reason Survivor attracts a lot of korean lawyers if they can get them at all. Think about it Samsooki if you can win you can be a great role model for koreans and you can be that much closer to getting the millions needed to produce your ultimate kdrama. That's an even exchange right? What you say?

@ ockoala
If I really press hubby on it I bet he will admit JH is handsome. Guys are so funny they can't admit things like that. If I ever casually ask him if he thinks so-and-so is handsome, his standard reply is "How should I know I'm a guy" ---like being a guy means your deaf, dumb and blind.

You actually piggybacked a girl in a dorm stairwell? Oooh, how luciously drama-esque. I can cue the soundtrack from STLDFM right now and imagine that moment. I reckon you don't share that story with the wifey, n'est pas?

Speaking of dorms, hubby was either in Eliot or Pforzeimer, and I can't remember and can't ask him again bc I asked once (bf we started dating), and I was dating someone else at that time, who was also an alum, and he said I was in X house, and I said, oooh, my BF was in Y house, did you know him?, and he said "No.....", and after we started dating, I made the mistake of mixing up the two houses and he was not a happy camper, so since I continue to confuse the two, I'm stuck until he volunteers that information or else I call up one of his blockmates to find out but what a tangled web I weave....

I believe your story, since perhaps unconditional JNR love also comes with it a natural god-given ability to sniff out even the least offending JNR slight.

@ supah

I don't know about LYW for a Baeksang, she's lovely but she's only really engaged me viscerally as an actress in Surgeon Bong Dal-hee. Fashion 70's wasn't her fault, she got saddled with a numbskull character plus paired with hotness personified JJM and CJM, plus Kim Min-jung got all the juicy angst. But QSD, I felt like her scenes with Bidam (which, LOL are the only ones I've watched) she was very stiff. Suffice to say, Best Actress is sewed up by GHJ this year no matter who else gets nominated.

@ momosan, QSD should have been renamed the Mishil & Bidam Show. I can watch Bidam meet his maker and it makes me teary each time. Poor Bidam!

JB, I'm not usually one to bitch about how Korean actors / actresses look. But pictures of the Cinderella's Sister press conference really got to me. Has Seo Woo had some major plastic surgery? What is wrong with her eyes? And this picture here ... argh! Or maybe it's just too much makeup and bad lighting.

MGY just looks young and fresh. SW looks like she's made of plastic. It's like CSW's eyebrows in City Hall and KJH's hair line in Wish Upon a Star, Seo Woo's face, especially her eyes, are just going to get to me throughout Cinderella's Sister! I'm just not digging the look that Seo Woo has in this drama. I've seen previous photos of her and she looks like a natural beauty. The stills from Cinderella's Sister and the press conference are making her look the opposite.

Thanks for letting me get this off my chest. Please don't hurl tomatoes at me.

I will forever love Seo Woo for bring Beo-jin to life in Tamra, but damn, she looked like an alien at the CU press conference, next to Taec who looked like he was auditioning for the role or Urkel.

Just read your post. I should have read it first before I posted mine. I agree. She looks awful in the press conference and the promo pics. I'm not sure I can look past it.

I'm ready for a bit of drama now since I have DWL to keep me cheery so I'm gearing up for CU (are we calling it that here?). I've only seen MGY in Painter and I was so impressed. To be honest, I haven't seen any of the other actors in anything (shock horror!) so with no expectations, I'm hoping to be vowed. I can't wait!

I get ya, I eventually stopped watching QSD myself as she became a royal. But she was quite winning in her earlier tomboy episodes and she could emote well enough in spite of the mono-expression she wore in later episodes.
I really liked her in Bad Love too (I can see those eyes rolling, I know a lotta folk hated this drama). With regards to her character; when life as the beautiful and graceful, cello-playing city girl didn't work out, she became a fiesty villager ahjumma, zipping about on a spluttery old motorbike, peddling her homemade fried chicken. And, she played both sides of the character quite well I'd say.
She's quite endearing as an actress overall. While actresses who play up their 'cuteness' are fine, it's refreshing to see an actress who has some 'grit' (and ISN'T Kim Na Heul).
Anyways, too bad she didn't get nominated this time, but.... Kim So Yeon, fighting!

@ eiko-
No, absolutely no spoilers, but I can let slip some of the less important stuff...
Like the musical chairs part!
Dr Wang's sat in the cafeteria alone, upset and brooding. Dr Seo brings her tray over to join him, some seconds later Dr Lee joins them. Dr Seo senses the tenseness so excuses herself. Dr Wang then gets up and leaves some moments after. Dr Lee sits alone, looking a little lost. Dr Ahn then joins him at the table and after thinking deeply to himself, exclaims: ''Aaaaah... Elevator?!?!'' (Hahaha!)

Dr Wang really broke my heart in this episode though, as though it wasn't sad enough with the patients stories, or Wang's been-kicked-puppydog expression wasn't hard enough to handle, he had to go on and 'sigh' too.
The 'sigh' you ask?
You know when you've just been dealt a huge emotional blow and it's agonisingly hard to contain, and so you take a verry deep breath, hoping it will stifle the impending heartbreak and beckoning storm of wailing and tears?
Yes, that! Aigooo! Tut tut! How I miss the carefree, upbeat, ladykiller Wang.
But did this episode focus solely on Dr Wang's brooding? No, thankfully not. This episode has lots of cool stuff going on. :)

um... @ LYM for Baeksang, i doubt we'll see it happening any time soon....

I like her (not exactly her acting)...but she's generally very safe an actress, she's been doing her job well, but she gave me an impression she's emoting scene fr scene and didnt dealt deeper into the characters and lost touch w/ conveying development ... what @supah liked in Bad Love...her 'seamless' transformatn fr cellist to fried chicken selling ahjumma left me scratching head till bleeding. oddly I've seen everyone of her recent dramas, even at her best work recently Surgeon BDH, i liked it enough but tbh she didnt elevate the drama. I refuse to think anything concerning BL was realistically plausible it's sooo ott i'm not sure it's makjang.

Ohhhhhh.....I got ya on that musical chairs! Almost sounds like the scene where Seo is really upset at Lee and leaves the table when he bring his tray to sit with her and Wang! I'm curious what her reaction was to the kiss after they realize Wang is standing there!!!! :-)

I still say that Wang had all the opportunity to make his move but only did so when he noticed that Lee was interested and getting close. Guess that's how the k-dramas go or for that matter....any other drama.

You know...I've been wondering why they keep doing those kiss scenes (any drama) where they close their eyes waaaaay before they kiss? I've had to laugh many times thinking somebody is gonna miss! It's like they use the tip of their nose as the target. AT least in OBGYN in elevator scene....Seo closed her eyes but maybe Lee had a better target since he held her face. :-)

It's not quite 5 p.m. here....wherever you are....enjoy the day/night!

@19 Supah.....additional note....I think you know that I enjoyed Bad Love. I can't tell you the reasons and it's like with any other drama that I start on.....the only way I get turned off is if the story line is terrible and the acting is worse. For example, I was watching The Vineyard Man.....cause I really like that actress but her acting in that role was so much like Coffee Prince that I got turned off. And yet....I watched Take Care of my Lady (My Fair Lady) and I enjoyed her in that one!

It's kind of complicated, but "company-owned dorm" actually puts it very well. I've just learned from a Japanese colleague that the fitting out of the building was supervised by a South African, which might explain a lot.

@ mookie and supah

SBDH was the best I have seen LYW, she was at her loosest most bright and luminous in that performance. She looked comfortable, almost like that was the closest to her real personality, so she wasn't trying as hard. Early LYW in F70s had that spark, but she lost it halfway when her character development went into the crapper.

I've heard lots of accolades for LYW during Deokman portion of QSD, but since I only saw the Bidam/DM interactions in the latter episodes, it didn't do LYW any justice to say that poor SD was painfully stiff in her portrayal. Perhaps if the writers didn't mindscrew with her and have her suddenly in love with Bidam.....or maybe not, it appears the second a character becomes a King/Queen, they suddenly become like a shell of their former selves (case in point, Seodongyo, Jumong, KotW).

Anyways, LYW in BL was neither here nor there for me. She wasn't awful, but she clearly didn't like her character because she never become invested in the performance to me. She's the queen of the full body sobbing (her male counterpart is of course none one else but JIS - who put on a masteclass in WHIB and SD), but she felt disconnected from that role to me. Na In-jung wasn't in pain bc her love life sucked, LYW looked in pain to be asked to essay so. much. slap-happy. woe. I personally LOVED that BL attempted the subject matter, but the execution and some characters were just terrible.

Btw, I totally don't hate BL at all! I thoroughly enjoyed watching, but am fully aware of how full of histrionics it was and ultimately too overwrought to really walk the fine line between melodrama and pure makjang. But BL left an impression alright, like StH left an impression, so I still fondly have good memories of watching those dramas. And still love to talk about them.

@ serendipity

Hhhm, hold off on writing off Tazza just yet, I'm fairly certain that it won't have a magical transformation from C drama to A drama, but maybe the totally will merit a B and be fun to watch for our JH marathon? I don't know.....I'm predisposed to love gambling dramas from my early childhood watching God of Gamblers movies and the like, but I'm trying too hard to like Tazza and that's never a good sign.

@ momosan

To steel myself for the inevitable LBH win, I am re-watching Beautiful Days this week. To remind myself that LBH is winning this as a lifetime acheivement award of sorts. Cuz god I love him in BD. His chemistry with Choi Ji-woo (and her performance and character) is seriously out of this world spectacularly sizzling.

Chuno ep 10 on KBS world, hubby and I watched last 30 minutes, his comments as follows: LDH is very pretty, he would go back and save her like TH did (he also says Korean women hanbok is ugly bc it looks like maternity gear and hides their figure), he thought the TH-El Diablo fight was so lame (which I agree, it could have been much more intense), he says DG sad looks wussy, and ends with LDH "she's really is very pretty."

ooo @ twin,

hubby and I watched the exact Chuno ep on KBS world as well... and he made similar comments (lol @ all those slowmo killjoys) but then after every comment of LDH being very perfectly pretty, he said there's sth very nonsensual about her...it's her dolledup-ness or general 'can't act' so he's way more perked up in SH/DG's scene (and a new fanboy of JH Chuno made) we then go on a tangent on his undying love for KTH. HCY otoh in AMCG, he's buying every bit of easy sex appeal she and all females r selling. it's absolutely glorious entertaining cheese that show!!

I'm really not feeling charitable with anything QSD, I saw every drop of early DeokMan, she's one of those actresses that do every crying tear fine a la SHK, but in the bigger picture, she's not IN character, eg when she cries she manages to have the exact same facial expression w/ addition of a floodgate of tears. (same w/ any smiles in lighter moments)... DM's been thro her share but total loss of any spunk Nam Ji Hyun injected into young DM

He's intrigued w/ Chuno and asked me to dl the whole thing and marathon it...'coz it needs some serious ffing' his words and mine.

ahhh that pic of JH is <333333333333333333333333333333333333

If you don't mind, can we live together whilst our hubs live together? :-P

Anyways, the "passionless" part of the kiss I described via my pecking at my iphone is directed at LDH, so coincides with your hubby's description of LDH as nonsensual. Actually, LDH always seems rather ethereal and/or untouchable in some way. I love her, but the woman is not a sexpot. Heh.

Anyways, @ hjkomo-sis, don't worry, mine isn't watching Chuno anytime soon. The angst doesnt get him, and really Chuno wuxia is only semi-there in terms of quality so he's not engaged in that arena either.

He actually still remembers You're Beautiful (cute, young unfussy cast) and City Hall ('that was a good drama from the eps I saw" - sigh, no wonder I still haven't left him - appreciating CH is the only thing he did right without even my asking, he kinda knew quality when he saw it).

@ OBGYN watchers

Just finished watching Ep 15. It is a very, very good episode and makes me realize why I like this drama more and more, although we will be having the ending tonight. This drama does not play up dramatics with its main characters but leaves the dramatics to the episodic medical cases, as if you are watching two dramas unfolding before your eyes. This is pretty much the formula of professional dramas but it is really nicely done here. I think Surgeon BDH is a gem but OBGYN is even better because of a full body of well-developed and realistic side charcters. The hospital crew and their stories grow naturally in the background to the point you care all of them as it they are your friends from Dr Seo down to the head nurse. And what great camaraderie they have!

Then I read this comment by knuts at Soompi: "And then after watching such a good eppie, I wonder why why why why is there only one ep left of such good stuff. It is like there is this fantastic restaurant, but nobody knows about and nobody goes there. Or like there is this mountain of gold just lying there in the open, untouched and all, and apparently it has been there for ages, but nobody has known about it." My sentiment exactly.

Back to Ep 15 - no spoiler but give me a Dr Wang anytime anyday!

Okay....so I couldn't control my eagerness and went to episode 15 RAW: I LOVE this episode. Although I cringed to see that old guy enter the story.....he really turns me off and yet he's a vital part of the drama!

The elevator scene....at the ground floor was very well done....I was smiling because it definitely followed through on Seo's personality. And later in the cafeteria and Dr. Ahn's......aaaahhhhh elevator! LOL LOL....what a cutie!!!

I look forward to 15 with english subs and will be sad to see 16 end the drama. This has been a very good drama....excellent acting performance by everyone. Whatever the outcome....I'm glad I followed this one.

Wahhhhh, drooolz, that is one crazy hot picture of JH with zee baby. Great hairtsyle, but I reckon its hard to maintain since it'll grow out like in 2 weeks and he'll need another trim.

@ serendipity

*smiles* glad u enjoyed the EoE ending - with obligatory montage (though it never once showed SSH with LDH and they did have plenty of scenes) - that EoE montage accomplished the exact opposite of what montaging should accomplish - instead of making me nostalgic and wistful and missing the OTP already, it made me retch by putting together so conveniently images that reminded of me of what a terrible pairing it was. But the SSH goes to heaven scene is seriously way. too. funny. to. keep. to. myself!

Oh, and Bidam's final battle hairstyle!!! I'm so happy you mentioned it, I was thinking "is it just me?" That was the BEST hairstyle I have ever seen on a male lead in a saguek, in fact, may be the best hairstyle I've ever seen in any male lead in a wuxia, period. I am hard pressed to think of a better look on any guy filming a historical. It was dashing, sexy, neat yet slightly mussed. Oh Bidam!

Too bad he donned the hairstyle and then did a one against 300 battle just to get to.....Seondoek? She totally didn't seem worthy enough for his exertions.

@ mookie

LMH + his love affair for BB cream. Hahahaha, oh, that was too funny. He looks postively waxen yet glowly. Early Binnie circa Bodyguard or Ireland NEVER looked made up from the stills I saw. These new guys need to look at their sunbae hyungs and ditch metrosexual for the JH rawr dirty man I fight look.

When I see LMH I think "What a handsome lad" but he doesn't seem attractive in the way that makes me forget his age and add him to my ICOYM list like with Jang Guen Suk. I'm always aware that LMH is my nephew's age and I tend to treat him in my mind as a boy which will make watching PT with SYJ interesting. BTW what is BB Cream?

Samsooki on survivor I would pay to watch. It might be like Monk on Survivor. I do fear though that his OCD and the fact he would talk about JNR to his tribemates while they were all trying to sleep would get voted off within the first 3 episode.

@Serendipity

I read your post on Thank You and I love what you wrote. Most kdramas leads the viewers through the story from the female pov but in Thank You you identify with Dr Min because of how the story unfolds and because the growth is his. Also truthfully how many of us are like Young Shin (not many on this board from what I can tell). Thank You really reminds me of a Homeric poem. Dr Min of course is the flawed hero who develops and journeys through the obstacles. Unlike Langdon I really liked GHJ's character and she is Dr Min's Penelope and his safe haven. She and Bom are the miracles than saves his humanity. Young Shin is a bit of a simpleton, too kind for her own good and a total country bumpkin who was raised to be self sacrificing for others which is one of themes in Thank You. In the hands of mediocre actress the character could have been schticky, one dimensional and annoying but GHJ breathes life and realism into the character that for me makes her very likable. I really thought she and Grandpa were the standout in terms of natural acting and then Shin Sung Rok and then Jang Hyuk. However this is so far JH's best work. I also smiled to myself when he does his gangsta walk all over blue island but his Dr Min was believable because JH does arrogant, intense and tempermental very well even when playing a Doctor.

BB cream is this: http://forums.thefashionspot.com/f47/bb-cream-hottest-foundation-trend-korea-taiwan-62469.html

I was alerted to it by my sister-in-law who came back from TW about 3 years ago with a tube. There are now many brands, many types, but it's pretty much thickish cream foundation with purported healing properties. I don't wear any foundation ever except for black tie events (I hate makeup), but apparently it's all the rage all over Asia and started in Korea, of course!

It kinda makes the wearer look pasty if you ask me.

@nycgirl
I'm with you about LMH, there's a striking similarity between him and my baby nephew, but I'm glad it's him and not any other actor -- (like So Jisub, Jeung-woo Sung Jang Hyuk or Song Joong-ki and so forth) because while LMH is handsome, he's never really made my 'lustworthy' list. Phews!

BB Cream? You have the right person here. I wear it everyday!
It's a makeup product, similar to foundation but also a skincare treatment combined. Pretty good stuff. It originally came about when some German med professionals used it to cover patient's scarring. It was adapted in Korea and used backstage on film and drama actors/actresses. It later went on to be manufactured by many mainstream beauty companies in Korea and became a massive craze in Asia.
There are so many variations; light coverage to heavy coverage, some really scary whitening ones etc. Some contain UV and look pretty scary under camera flash and I suspect those scary, heavier ones are the types LMH wears.

@ockoala and mookie
About Bad Love and LYW's acting.
Bad Love is one of those dramas you either hate or love, I've met zero an in-betweener.
It's one of my guilty melo-makjang pleasures, I would've rolled my eyes at the plot had it been any other drama or cast but somehow I enjoyed all the craziness in this drama. Even the insufferable Soo Hwan character couldn't negate that.

About her acting...
To be honest, I haven't seen a lot of her work but I liked her in F70s, BL and (the earlier episodes of QSD). I have yet to tire of her overacting or see her 'wooden' side.
Whilst I'll admit she isn't flawless, I don't think she's any worse off than Kim Tae Hee!! How is it that KTH is nominated and not LYW! Bad, bad!
That was the REAL basis of my argument, seeing KTH's name under nominees just riled me up real good.
Sorry, KTH fans!

Bidam!!! I don't think ANY girl can be worthy of his exertions, he's just too beautiful.

Wow! To think I've lived my life without BB Cream.

I'm not a foundation wearer either but I'm curios about this if they are saying it won't clog your pores and it will improve your skin, sex life and finances. Sounds like a miracle cream.

@ supah

Since you like LYW and Ob-Gyn. I highly highly recommend Surgeon Bong Dal-hee. Best LYW drama for me, and a pretty good drama set in a medical setting (a bunch of general surgery residents and their trials and tribulations).

Though personally New Heart my fave of the medicals I've seen (I have not seen Ob-Gyn or White Tower), and would recommend that as well. Best Ji Sung performance by a long shot, oh he was fabulous and held his own against the ahhhmazing Jo Jae-hyun.

As for KTH, there are many many actress' performances in last year's dramas I would like to be nominated ahead of her, but eh, she gets lots of ribbing from me already and she tries really hard so good for her.
