Yeah I am a fan. I would have to be to sit through that film and still have positive stuff to say. For anyone who loved the cartoon it really is worth it for the fight scenes, but be warned there is NO acting, only exposition. There is no time for acting when you have to cover 5 episodes in 15 minutes.

i just kept refreshing the page until i came acrossed the Taec banner. it was well worth it. not because he's dashing (which he can be) but because he's the super dorky dumbo--as in big ears--looking sweetheart in the banner. I LOVE IT!!! (thanks to whoever created it!!!)

Happy 4th of July! (weekend) to everyone..or just happy summer.

First (for me) this is the shortest I have ever seen an Open Thread.

I was checking out MV of Park Hyo Shin, a favorite of mine, and happened upon the videos with he and his friends..Park Hong Ya and Park Si Yeon...my heart ached.
its strange, I wasnt a fan of WInter Sonata..although I did like both the male leads.
I was just getting to know Park Yong Ha..all I can think is that his death has been like a exclamation....what a blow to his family and friends, shock to his fans, what a waste of a life. I know depression is debilitating and I am learning more about the Korean culture. ???
My thoughts are jumbled and thats all for that.

Take care of each other, please dont tell anyone to suck it up, and remember your life does matter. You and your actions affect the people around you no matter what you do....damn..I just feel like screaming!!!

it's friday again! so fast! I've just come back from a vacation earlier this week. Came home, went onto dramabeans first thing and found out abt Park Yong Ha. It makes me upset that more hasn't been done to encourage people with depression to seek help? maybe this issue needs a 30% rating drama in order to get it through people's heads.

@48 diadda
thanks for your mini-review of avatar: the last airbender movie. I want to watch it and it will probably take awhile for my friends and i to coordinate a time and date. In the trailer, the trademark humor of avatar was nonexistent...it seemed really lord of the rings serious. i was wondering if they showed some of the humor in the movie?

Hey, y'all!

Just came back from Avatar the Last Airbender. This is your one and only warning. Unless you enjoy watching hilariously bad movies DO NOT go watch that movie. It really is extraordinarily bad. *sigh* I didn't follow the TV series but I remember liking the first episode and the trailer.

The CGI and everything was great - Hollywood always has that down - but the plot, acting, and dialogue was just painful to watch. At least I'm not a fan of the series. My friend was nearly in tears, she was so angry... lol. I just laughed my way through the entire thing.

Such is the case of my missing cat, who went missing June 4th and is now back in my house today giving me the death glare.

Oh man! Heart still continues to sink thinking of Park Yong Ha. His screen presence, even from photos exuded such warmth. So sad to see another good person leave us. RIP PYH.

Cried for Ghana today, I don't know, I went in with an open mind but ended up totally enthralled with how brilliantly they played. Curse the Uruguayan handball. Curse the penalty shootouts. Cuuuuurse!!

After being stuck on episode 2 of Kyungsook's Father I finally went back and watched the entire 4 episodes and somehow it was much more... riveting and :true wuv: this time. I was a bit taken aback by how 'theatrical' the drama felt on first watch, this time I was able to dive right in.

Some random life-related things:
- I'm so thirsty, but banning myself from any liquid intake as the light switch has fused in the bathroom so won't be able to make any nightly bathroom trips. I'm so freakin' afraid of the dark it's not even funny. Torches and things are even scarier, you kinda see shadows and stuff. This is where I especially miss my cat. When he was here, no unseen creatures could scare me, cus I have a weapon and this weapon haz (glow in the dark eyes and) claws - beaatch!

- why do people knock so quietly? If they want your attention shouldn't they knock a sliight bit louder? Is it a new trend? Colleagues, family, friends... all turning into knock-super-quietly freaks. When I knock, I'm more like... knock that bloody down, knock! Anyway, I just ignore them and continue about my business, waiting until they knock a little louder and not joking when I say they some of them will continue knocking for like half an hour or something. Then I feel I can't take it anymore and pretend I was about to walk out anyway and just 'happened to open the door' and found them stood there etc... Freaks!

@janna
That poster -- hilarity! And so true.

Excellent! Congrats on the return of the cat. Both of them went MIA though, right? Are they both back?
Is it the look where their pupils become slits? That's a PMSy stay-the-eff-away moment right there. He is otherwise affectionate right?

Btw, that Lee Mi-ja song is so totally (near-irritatingly) infectious, was singing it all day today too. Maybe you could join me in this madness?
Couldn't find the original, but here's Yuri singing it and it's quite a cute attempt.

And on that note:
Here's a pic of the two MJs, the big one and the little one. (The bottom two pics: can I get an aawwww!)

Happy 4 of July Weekend to all my fellow Americans!!!!
I just finish watching
"Sunao Ni Narenakute" and coming from the same writer of Orange Days and A Million Star falling From The Sky, it is a very good drama, I know some people commented that the first few episodes it felt a bit disjointed but half way trough it does gel into a cohesive story that is worth watching.
The story deals with a group of 5 strangers that become friends via a "Twitter" Forum about seeking friends.
The first 4/5 episodes deals with how the relationships develops between them, and the dynamic creates a love triangle that turns into a love square and then a love pentagon, it is not to heavy on the angst other than the relationship with the main couple, played by famous Actor "Eita" and Actress "Ueno Juri", they fall in love but they cannot bring themselves to be honest with each other thus creating problems, as she starts dating the second lead played by Korean Actor "Hero JaeJoong" creating the proverbial triangle, over all out of 10 I will give it an 81/2 rating.
the OST is quite good!!!!!
enjoy!!!!

@61 janna -- I am so glad about your cat; even if it is giving you the stink-eye, it is home again! In my neighborhood, when a cat goes missing, it means that a coyote from the park across the highway has killed it, and taken it home to feed the young ones. Every time you posted about your cat, I though, uh-oh, coyotes, but it seemed too negative to say. Don't let it get freaked out by fireworks this weekend.

I am watching PS Man. The story line is good I have seen it up to the current releases. It maintains average quality only dragging a little in parts. Blue Lan is the true selling point. Unfortunately they start screwing with his hair I don't know why but it gets distracting. finally starts to go back to normal ep.15

@supah: "why do people knock so quietly?" I'll tell you why, they're so used to fancypants technology of doorbells they forget back in the old days people used their FISTS OF STRENGTH to knock down doors or something. Yeah.

@isabelh: Oh geez I hear about that a lot! But I live in a very house-heavy suburb of Philly so we just at best have roaming wilderness. There are usually opossums. I met one the one day I decided to leave out stinky cat food. I put out the food and was sleeping on my back porch. For about ten movie slow motion seconds we just stared at each other. Then, we both turned and ran like our pants were on fire.

Aside from that there are times when I've seen crows, birds that attack cats, groundhogs, mice. One year there was bats, another year there were vultures. Because no one lets their pets really hunt there is now an abundance of bunnies. The bunnies, oh how they flourish now that I have inside cats. Every morning when I walk to the trainstation I chase a few.

So yes Supah, both cats are back. The second one missing used to be my best buddy. He likes to travel and used to be an outside cat. Well, once he was done traveling around his new home (close by in another suburb of philly) he noticed all the front of the houses kind of looked the same (well they had different plants, dumb cat) and proceeded to peek in all the neighbors back yard screen doors (it's a habit around here. People just leave their inside doors open in the summer.) He came home a day or two after he went missing.

My cat, or should I say a cat that went from being a stray in south philadelphia, living a rich and cultured life, and then somehow being my cat last year... well. He must have had some fun. The family loved him, he falls in love with everyone (people and cats alike) and made me look like an ass by not getting in his cage or looking enamoured at my entrance. Cat..... I have lost hours, perhaps years of my life looking for you. At least grin at your departure. There's a lot of story to tell to this, but I don't want to flood with my comments. Some say cats go off to die, and I've never found that the case. There is a likely chance that your cat, yes yours right now, is an ungrateful bastard cat. I have confirmed this about this cat. He's half sitting on my keyboard and slept on my back all night owww wait why did I bring you backkkkk

Here are the links to the raws of the two first episodes you need of Still, Marry Me. If you do not have an account to this site, you can download one episode today and the other tomorrow. It's much faster than torrents because there might not be any active seeds for these, or later episodes.

Yesterday I spoke with my sister and she mentioned that the local newspaper had published an article about Park Yong Ha's suicide. What is unusual is that she lives in a part of Mexico where Winter Sonata hasn't been shown (nor any other kdrama). To the best of my knowledge, WS was broadcast through Sky and it was seen mostly in Mexico City and Central Mexico a few years ago.

I was shocked and numbed by the news of PYH's passing. Depression is a b****. Clinical depression is an illness that needs to be treated with doctor prescribed drugs. Depression causes despair and a pain that is more than physical and that makes one to want to die.

May you rest in peace, Park Yong Ha.

So I watched the most recent episode of Baker King, or what have you Baker King, Kim Tak Goo. There was like a montage or something, then came the hazing. Oh man food shows and their hazing. Classic.

So you wanna be the best sushi maker/baker/pasta-ist (that's what I call you when you don't ACTUALLY MAKE THE PASTA) /mochi maker/eel slicer/what have you

Step 1: Say you're going to be the best at making ________. Like seriously tell people. It's best if you have a daily stare in the mirror saying "Fighting" or "Ganbatte" whilst fist pumping. Remind people you will be the best. Just saying it makes you ten percent closer to the goal.

Step 2: Find a cranky pants chef. They're are plenty. Be your uppity brazen self. Smooth.

Step 3: You're shot down. Get all like "No way" and then go "Dang yo I'm depressed"

Step 4: Be awed and inspired by someones life changing over some friggin delicious cookie or whatever you're learning to make. One day I hope for someone to aspire to be the "best grits maker in the United States". Let's watch a show where someone changes peoples lives Dr.Phil style with a bowl of grits.

Step 5: Never back down/Never give up. March right back in. Smile.

Step 6: HAZING TIME. Enjoy scrubbing toilets, counting money, Taking out trash, carrying stuff all at the lovely hour of 3am. It's important for your future, stupid. Apparently angrychef wants to make sure you can handle all the business. You're such a newbie baby but apparently he has so much trust. Why isn't he just looking at...

Step 7: Your RIVAL. Yeah, were you not paying attention to his fancy knife skills earlier in the show? Maybe he can stab you later, only by "accident" or something. Look, he was here months before you, and you're not going to just jump over and win in a...

Step 8: Blind taste test time. First two times you cooked something Angrychef likened to raw sewage burning down his throat, but this time? Oh, slow clap.

Step 9: You are kind of cool with everyone now. Angrychef doesn't want to beat you senseless all day long. You will not have to kiss ass, but you will forever get up at 4am buying ingredients, then spend most of the day cooking them, and will never know what your house or family look like. But you make a really good ______ and it's all good. Story over!

Laughing hard at your Kim Tak Goo review. I fancy it's not really won you over. Are you going to continue watching it?
It's not really had my attention from the get-go. Not really into food-related dramas. Not even seen Gourmet and that had K! R! W! in it (my first kdrama crush, ever) AND the female leads were none other than Kim So-yeon and Nam Sang-mi.
Plus, KTG has Eugene in it, that defo kills any lemming dead for me. Don't hate her, just never really cared for her, much y'know? (OK: you caught me, maybe I hate her then.)

Hi again,
have you read the article in KBites that CNN picks for 20 hottest korean male stars, as i quote from the article,
"The list was revealed through an online bulletin board on 2nd July. CNN wrote, “ These specially chosen South Korean celebs, who we’ve selected purely on the basis of how much drool they elicited from the female members of our staff, no doubt have solid acting, modeling and/or singing skills. But it’s their chocolate abs, sublime faces and lean, mean, sex-machine bodies that get them a place on this list.” "

but the funniest thing is there are no LBH, JWS, CSW, KDW... crazy... i think that the voters from CNN are mostly BBF fans coz KJH is there...
here the link to that artice

"Houkago" (Division 1 Stage 08 - "After School").
It is a 2004 J-dorama with actress "Horikita Maki", Toda Erika, Nakamura Ruria, and Tokunaga Eri.

It is the story of "Coming Of Age " of 4 high-school friends who are experiencing falling in love and the way they go about dealing with those feelings, and the growth of their relationships, it is a very good drama, out of "10" I give it a "9", enjoy!!!!

Yeah, it isn't very up to date is it? Aside from BBF, seems the office ladies also like Stairway to Heaven, Autumn Tale and Winter Sonata. But then So Ji-sub's on there, and can't go wrong with Won Bin and Song Seung-hun, Jo In-sung... so I'm happy! But no Kim Nam-gil (ditto, 94!), Kim Rae-won or my current k-crush: Park Sang-min.

@ diadda: Ah yes I forgot that one! That's a good addition!

This CNN list... well. Beauty is in the eye of the blahblahblah I'm right, you're wrong.
For the longest time I've seen Bae Yong Joon on lists and I just.don't.get.it. Don't hate me. Maybe you like wine, and I like a fine chilled Nesquik chocolate milk or something.
This analogy isn't working well.

I do agree with #1, aka "he who is married and shall not be named" to me. That is no ordinary man. I also like how this article started off "There are men, and then there are MEN." Then I scrolled to look at the list and went "Yeah!...I uh.. kind of agree...wait he's not that manly. No." Should have been "There are men, and then there are EYECANDY. Here is a list of dudes from recent dramas we've watched."

@janna

I thought the same of Bae at first. His photos or even the way he looks into the camera at first it looked weird to me. I couldn't get the attraction. Didn't help that I saw Winter Sonata first. I know this drama his held up as a religious artifact, but I HATE amnesia story lines. So I couldn't sit still through it. It took The Legend to make me see the light. He would turn his head or pose in such a way that I swear he was trying to charm or mesmerize me. It was odd. I didn't have a thing for him yet but I could see the reason behind the hysteria now. Then I saw Hotelier. WOW! I became a Bae-ing fool on that. The drama was ok, but every scene he was in, he stole by shear manly attraction. I don't know your viewing history. but Hotelier converted me to a believer.

And as for that CNN list. It was made by the staff running the CNNAsia website. SO most likely a vote among young female interns would result in something like this.
No Kim Rae Won
No Lee Dong Gun
No Joo Ji Hoon
No Eric
No Gong Yoo
No Jae Hee
No Kim Jae Won
No Chun Jung Mung for heavens sake

This list could go on forever and of course that is the real problem with this list. once you are exposed to Kpop, drama, culture most female realize there is too much too look at

Giant 15 spoilers!!!

(@janna: you seen it yet?)

Just calmed myself down, after squeeing, then squeeing some more, jumping on my bed, doing some ebay shopping and then came back.

I don't know where to start but...
- Pres. Hong -- pretty much guessed it. He was awesomesauce.
- Ohemgee, Park So-tae and Park So-tae junior. ::Twue wuv:: (but that had better not be Jun-mo!?)
- JY (hallelujah), FINALLY, FINALLY has stepped up her game. Athough I was still like 'yeah, whatevers, there's far too much JY on this show' - but she was fab. He was in a stroppy mood (he's up to something again that one) and she was the one with the game face. Go GF!
- KM, after all these episodes seeing him soulless (will come back to this topic), I was waiting for a kind of event that would shake him and revive the old KM we knew and loved, the one with the stinkin' 'tude. This episode I would say was the one that seems to have began the revival process. But...

- MJ, she STOLE the bloody show!

- The cliffhanger left me kinda speechless.
Sole problem now, is this like this so early on, it'll probably drag like a mofo later. I think there are some things I'd rather they dragged out now and resolved much later than all this catharsis so early on, we'll not have a lot to look forward to later on, or will we?
Love this writer Jang, hope I can continue to trust him. :)
